Yesterday, I received my copy of "Grand Zappa" and it's a beauty.
Hardcover, bound, 160 pages, full colour and BIG. It's as big as a vinyl record.
The book takes an in-depht look at all the various pressings of all the Zappa vinyl albums. Each album has its own chapter and gets its own review. And next to it, there's a list of all know pressings, with lots of data and with pictures of the labels (and of other possible differences).
Just to give you a little example, the chapter on the "Jazz From Hell" album shows 9 different vinyl pressings. The "Hot Rats" one more than 60 !!
Obviously, this book was made with a lot of attention to details. In every aspect. It's inevitable that there are some little mistakes in there and that a couple of variatons are missing. And I would have liked a bit more info on the CDs as well.
Still, a must-have book for everyone who is interested in the history and discology of Zappa's music.
The book is written in German, but don't let that hold you back. Even I can understand it :-)
