THE DEVIANTS - HUMAN GARBAGE

Japanese CD reissue of the 1984 vinyl album with different artwork.
Includes Mick Farren and The Deviants performing FZ's 'Trouble Coming Every Day'.

Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

FRANK ZAPPA - THE REAL PORN WARS

  • frank zappa et al - the real porn wars

    compiled by tim scott
        (2014, book, uk, gonzo multimedia)
I picked up this book a little while ago. From Gonzo Multimedia.
It got released in 2014.
180-page paperback on the PMRC and FZ's senate hearings.

Flashback to the eighties...

On September 19, 1985, Frank Zappa testified before the United States Senate Commerce, Technology, and Transportation committee, attacking the Parents Music Resource Center or PMRC, a music organization co-founded by Tipper Gore, wife of then-senator Al Gore. The PMRC consisted of many wives of politicians, including the wives of five members of the committee, and was founded to address the issue of song lyrics with sexual or satanic content. Zappa saw their activities as on a path towards censorship, and called their proposal for voluntary labelling of records with explicit content "extortion" of the music industry. This is what happened.

DREI VOM RHEIN - S/T

Drei Vom Rhein made a Zappa tribute album in 2007 and another one in 2015.
It was no coincidence that they performed at Zappanale in 2015 as well.

Their first album, however, got released in 1993. They were still a trio at the time (with Werner Neumann, who is the sole survivor, on the guitar).
Guitar-oriented jazz-rock & fusion. Beautiful.
Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

Here's the more recent line-up, with Werner Neumann on the guitar.

BRYAN BELLER - SCENES FROM THE FLOOD

I received this brand-new 2 CD set yesterday.
Bryan Beller's "Scenes From The Flood".

Just listened to it for the first time (while adding data to the United Mutations Archives) and I can already tell you that this album will be in and around my CD player all week.
Wow.
Beautiful compositions, great colours and instrumentation plus an impressive set of guests.

Check it out !

STRATOSPHEERIUS

From the Stratospheerius newsletter

Stratospheerius is honored and excited to be performing on the main stage at Progstock!

Progstock is the premier progressive rock festival in the Northeaster United States, founded by our good friend Tom Palmieri.
The event takes place at the Union County Performing arts Center in Rahway, NJ from Friday, October 11-Sunday October 13th

Stratospheephius performs on Sunday, October 13th at 1:30 PM, but you should BUY TICKETS NOW and spend the whole weekend to hear these other incredible bands, who we are proud to share the stage with:

Brand X, Saga, Nektar, Jane Getterband, Randy McStine, Rachel Flowers, and many more...

UGLY PAPAS - PAPA RULES, OK?

Belgian band The Ugly Papas recorded FZ's 'Trouble Every Day' and released it on their second album. The eponymous one, that is.
Their first album, "Papa Rules, OK?" was released two years earlier (1992 already !!)  and presents some fine raw rock music.
Quite unpredictable, the album also includes The Ugly Papas performing Sun Ra's 'The Satellites Are Spinning".
An excellent release.
The album cover gives it away. What you see is what you get.

GRUPPO SPORTIVO - 10 MISTAKES

Dutch band Gruppo Sportivo's first (and fabulous) album got released in 1977.
It did get re-issued on CD a couple of times, but 2012 saw it released on a double 10" set.
On white vinyl.
Don't know if there's also a 10" black vinyl edition...
Beautiful.

Just listen to this track from "10 Mistakes" and tell me if the intro sounds familiar.

GOV'T MULE - THE DEEPEST END - LIVE IN CONCERT
