JON ANDERSON

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and YES Founding Member JON ANDERSON Signs with Blue Élan Records

Anderson’s luminous new album, 1000 Hands, to be released July 31, features a stunning array of guests including Alan White, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Jean-Luc Ponty, Ian Anderson, Billy Cobham and Chick Corea

LOS ANGELES, CA – For music fans everywhere, a new album by legendary Yes singer Jon Anderson is cause for celebration. But Anderson’s grand and glorious new solo album, 1000 Hands, is quite unlike any other record – it’s an event, one which the singer’s loyal legion of fans across the globe have been wildly anticipating for three decades.

1000 Hands will be Anderson’s first release via his new partnership with Blue Élan Records. The album will be available digitally as well as on CD and a deluxe 180-gram double vinyl package on July 31 and can be previewed HERE

“I’ve spent long periods of time making some records, but I’ve never taken a journey quite like this one,” says the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. “To say that 1000 Hands has been a long time in coming would be quite an understatement, but I’m thrilled that it’s finally a reality and that my fans will now be able to hear it. And I think they’ll be delighted to hear music that’s timeless. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

Of the label’s new signing, Blue Élan President Connor Pasich commented, “To have an artist of Jon Anderson’s caliber as part of our label family is exciting for all of us and to be able to be part of his musical legacy is priceless.”

Anderson began the album (originally called Uzlot – “it means a lot of us”) nearly 30 years ago, working with a group of musicians that included Yes drummer Alan White and bassist Chris Squire. However, due to his heavy touring commitments with Yes, Anderson had to put the record on the back burner. “Before you knew it, I started getting involved in other projects and tours, and years went by,” he explains. “I would listen to the tapes from time to time and think, ‘This could have been a great album! One day I’ll finish it.’”

Grammy-nominated producer Michael T. Franklin (Bruce Hornsby, Brian Wilson, Roger McGuinn) had at one point begun working on orchestrations for the album, but once again Anderson’s jammed schedule required the project to be put on hold. Finally, a year and a half ago, Anderson and Franklin got the album back on track and were determined to see it through. “Our ideas still matched,” Anderson says. “Michael knew everything I wanted to do and how I wanted the music to sound, so we agreed to go for it.”

Setting up shop in Franklin’s Solar Studios in Orlando, Florida, Anderson laid down backing vocals to his original lead tracks, and Franklin called in an astonishing array of rock and jazz luminaries to fill out the songs: fellow Yes alum Steve Howe, Ian Anderson, Jean-Luc Ponty, Billy Cobham, Chick Corea, Steve Morse, Rick Derringer, Jonathan Cain, and the Tower of Power Horns are just a few of the guests on 1000 Hands.

“That’s where the title 1000 Hands comes from, all of the brilliant musicians who played a part in making the record,” Anderson says. “Michael acted like something of a casting director, bringing so many great players. It was really exciting to hear the record open up and become what I had always envisioned.”

The sessions turned out so well, in fact, that Anderson decided to include four new songs on the album, with brand-new lead vocals. “Jon is such a remarkable writer and singer,” raves Franklin. “His newer songs were fabulous, and they fit seamlessly with the rest of the album. Everything came together beautifully.”

Anderson’s celestial voice – one of the most recognizable sounds in rock – is in stunning form throughout 1000 Hands, an album that features some of his most breathtaking compositions. Bookended by the starkly beautiful acoustic ballads “Now” and “Now and Again,” the record features electrifying new prog masterpieces (“Activate,” “Come Up”), glorious poly-rhythmic wonders (“WDMCF”) and delightful reggae pop (“First Born Leaders”). Listeners will be mesmerized by the cavalcade of sumptuous vocal harmonies on the frisky “Ramalama,” and they’ll be singing along merrily to the horn-driven funk of the aptly named “Makes Me Happy.”

A CARL KING UPDATE

a message from Carl King :

Hi, it's Carl King.

I've got two videos for you, but first...

The year I was 1983. I was 8 years old, and I'd get home from school just in time to watch He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. My parents owned a roadside motel on Highway 41 in Nokomis, Florida. There was a TV in one of the motel rooms that would just barely pick up some UHF station that played the show. My dad would unlock the room and let me go in there just for watching He-Man. The picture was usually scrambled with static, fading in and out, but I didn't care. The show was a kinda-psychedelic blend of outer-space and fantasy, futuristic technology and old weaponry.

The aesthetic has stuck with me -- and it has influenced my own cartoon projects, album covers, and most importantly, my physique.

Vienna Symphonic Library asked me to make a walk-through video for their Synchronized Solo Strings. The He-Man theme has a strong harmony and melody that's easy to translate to String Quintet. I embellished it a bit, but still followed the original music as a close guide.

Hope you enjoy it. The first video is just the music by itself, and the second video is a detailed walk-through in Cubase and VSL Synchronized Solo Strings.

MARBIN - TEN YEARS IN THE SUN

Dani Rabin, Marbin guitar player, has released a solo album.

He adds :
The expression "ten years in the sun," as described in Hayao Miyazaki’s film The Wind Rises, encapsulates the notion that within every life there is an era of peak creative performance and opportunity. Dani Rabin tells us the story behind the album: “The Covid-19 pandemic and shutdown caught my band Marbin in the midst of an exciting swing. The band was a few days into a thirty-seven-day tour when we had to cancel all of our shows, turn back, and drive 3,000 miles back home to Chicago. I knew it was the right thing to do as I didn't want to put our fans and band members in danger, but I was disheartened nonetheless. When I was home I was trying to figure out a way to keep my creative momentum going when I stumbled across an old notebook filled with ideas and fragments of songs we never got to use and I immediately knew what I had to do. The acoustic guitar has a soothing kind of quality to it and it gives the listener a very intimate experience. The melodies and harmonies stand out without all the bells and whistles of a full band, which I do like, but can also be somewhat distracting from the real essence of the music at times.”

EX-HAWKWIND BASSIST ALAN DAVEY RELEASES 4 CD BOX SET

From GlassOnyon PR

Ex-HAWKWIND Bassist ALAN DAVEY Releases 4CD Box Set Of Home Demos Including Early HAWKWIND Songs!

Los Angeles, CA - Alan Davey, the brilliantly creative musician/songwriter/producer perhaps best known for being the protégé of Motörhead’s Lemmy as well as filling Lemmy’s leather boots as the bassist for space rock icons Hawkwind, is an astoundingly exhaustive artist. Just this year, Davey has overseen the release of new singles by his superstar project Hawkestrel that featured Rick Wakeman, Pat Travers and electronic violinist Shankar (Peter Gabriel, Frank Zappa) as well as the release of a 3-album set from his side project Pre-Med. And now comes the release of a 4CD collection of home studio recordings, awesomely dubbed Four-Track Mind. With recordings that date back to the mid-‘80s all the way up to this decade, Four-Track Mind will give the listener a glimpse into the creative evolution of this amazingly adventurous artist. Packaged in a deluxe clamshell box with individual wallets for each disc along with a 12-page booklet with detailed liner notes and vintage photos, this is a box set that no Alan Davey fan should be without!

Davey has this to say about the collection: “Rarely do musicians ever release their learning curves of writing, mixing, and production skills, with all the clicks and pops and unedited flaws, but I thought people would find it interesting to see how I evolved my style and sound over the years. From a 4-track cassette machine, here are 60+ demos of many of my songs and some not yet used!”

Four-Track Mind will be available on both CD and digital everywhere starting May 22!

A CHRIS OPPERMAN AND KURT MORGAN UPDATE

A message from Kurt Morgan (who is producing and orchestrating Chris Opperman's latest release) :

Composer Chris Opperman and I are very excited to share this video premiere with all of you.

Over the last year, Chris and I have been working on Chamber Music From Hell, an album of some of his more challenging compositions for chamber ensemble and I am happy to report that we can see the finish line approaching.

The following video for “Waking Up” is a visual representation of a piece from that collection; one that attempts to convey some kind of peace, balance, and relief from the challenging music that precedes it.

We hope that this humble piece of art acts as some kind of relief for people as we try to navigate through the “new normal” world that we presently find ourselves in.

Chris and I wish all of you good health, peace, and happiness today and everyday.

Together they formed a psychedelic jam band. This work was recorded in Urasoe City, Okinawa Prefecture in February 2019. Their first Taiwan tour in February 2020 this year received critical acclaim.

  • hardy fox: killing time
        (2020, cd, austria, klanggalerie gg329)
Only a couple of weeks before his passing, Hardy Fox, one of the people behind The Residents, submitted several recordings to Klanggalerie, to be released after his death.

"Killing Time".

It's not just the compositions, I also like the the type and colour of his sounds.

Legendary Electric Violinist and Vocalist L. SHANKAR Debuts New Single and Video From His Star-Studded New Album!

Album features guest appearances by Korn’s Jonathan Davis, world renowned vedic chanter P.N. Sivarama Krishnan, Tony Levin, Chester Thompson, Scott Page of Supertramp and Pink Floyd, Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins, Norwood Fisher of Fishbone, and others!

Los Angeles, CA - Lakshminarayana Shankar, professionally known as L. Shankar, is widely considered a living legend, a pioneer, and a musical genius who has collaborated with giants such as Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and many, many more. His solo albums have always drawn not only enormous interest from fans and critics alike but also showcase the collaborative spirit that is integral to Shankar’s art. Musicians, singers, visionaries, both known and obscure, have all come to pay tribute to this uniquely talented musician and perhaps even find new inspiration for themselves by performing on his recordings. That tradition continues on Shankar’s new single “In My Heart,” which features the talents of groundbreaking artist Jonathan Davis, lead singer of alt-metal icons Korn, as well as Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins, Fishbone’s Norwood Fisher, Scott Page renowned saxophonist from Supertramp and Pink Floyd and others. The song’s meditative pace sets the perfect vibe for Shankar’s mantra-like lyrics and melody while an ethereal musical bed transports the listener on a spiritual journey.

This is the first single from Shankar's newest full-length album Chepleeri Dream that also features guest performances from King Crimson’s Tony Levin, Chester Thompson (Phil Collins / Genesis / Frank Zappa), Dileep Palakkad, and more! Shankar shares this about the album, “I was so inspired to work on this album and to have many great musicians involved with this project. The songs reflect upon my experience living at Chepleeri Temple in Kerala when there was a major disaster, floods which destroyed Kerala and I had to over come all the obstacles to get this project finished. It was truly a challenge and I love challenges. It gives me strength.”
