TODD RUNDGREN TO RECORD DEMOCRATIC CAMPAIGN ANTHEM

from GlassOnyon PR

Todd Rundgren Recruits Guest Artists for Democratic Campaign Anthem

Todd Rundgren and some well known guest artists are re-recording his 1973 anthem “Just One Victory” and giving it away for free to Democrats throughout the US running for public office this year. So far Joe Walsh, Daryl Hall, and Paul Shaffer have already agreed to join the effort along with producer Don Was. The idea was suggested by former Bearsville Records executives Paul Fishkin and Marc Nathan.

“Just One Victory” originally appeared as the final track on Rundgren's critically acclaimed 1973 album, A Wizard, a True Star.

Rundgren hopes that other notable artists sign on as well. “Let's go for 'We Are the World,'” he recently told Andy Greene of Rolling Stone. “Not many people know about it at this particular moment, especially because just as we were getting into the project this huge distraction [of the virus] came along. We are waiting for everyone to settle down from that before we refocus on the political and start actively soliciting some performances.”

Guest artists on the song don't need to be musicians or even musically inclined. Once the song is recorded any Democrat will be able to use the song for free. “It's really the kind of thing to get people hyped up and ready to go out and vote,” Rundgren says.

RESIDENTS MERCHANDISE

With their recent performance of God In Three Persons and the cancelled tour, our Rezifriends have some merchandise available.
Artwork for the program by one of my favourite illustrators / comic book artists: Stéphane Blanquet !

The tour should come to Europe in Jan / Feb 2021.

WE ARE STILL ALIVE!!! AND STILL SELLING STUFF!!!
The God in 3 Persons EXTRAVAGANZAS at the World Renowned Museum of Modern Art have created a mighty buzz among the Faceless Four's Faithful Fans, while also creating a MONUMENTAL DEMAND for the boffo poster program created by the incomparable French artiste Stéphane Blanquet. Up to now, preparation for the currently postponed American DOG STAB! tour has prevented us from purveying these exquisite jewels, but HEY!... things change, which is your good luck unless of course you get the VIRUS FROM HELL!!!

In addition, the highly regarded independent publisher ANTIBOOK CLUB is re-releasing a paperback edition of The Residents' Bad Day on the Midway novel. Just like the original hard bound edition, the paperback version will also include the CD, Bad Day Reconsidered.

ZAPPA MENTIONED IN LINER NOTES

Frank Zappa is mentioned in the liner notes of the 1985 album by Orkest De Volharding

About the second piece on the album, 'Lacune' :

And here's what it sounds like:

Orkest de Volharding (perseverance orchestra) is a Dutch music ensemble, founded in 1972 by Louis Andriessen and saxophonist Willem Breuker, named after a Andriessen work. Conceived as a street band with a political agenda, the group has evolved into a more conventional contemporary music ensemble.

THE STRAWBERRY BRICKS GUIDE TO PROGRESSIVE ROCK

From GlassOnyon PR

The 3rd Edition of “The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock” by Charles Snider To be Released March 27, 2020

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock, 3rd Edition
• Reviews of 510+ albums from 1967 - 1982
• 572 pages
• Fully edited, proofread and fact-checked

Back in print for 2020! The definitive record guide to the progressive era of rock music, Strawberry Bricks presents a comprehensive discography with reviews of 500+ albums, with band histories, musical synopses, key tracks and critical commentary, all presented in the historical context of a timeline. Beginning in 1967 and continuing through 1982, a generation of musicians took rock music in directions unforeseen as they charted what would become known as progressive rock. From art rock to krautrock, from England to Germany to Italy and all across Europe, Strawberry Bricks offers a candid reappraisal of rock’s most cerebral genre. Also for this edition, Matt Howarth has revisited his original artwork from the first edition of the book.

Says Charles, “The newly written Prologue offers a historical perspective of the pretext to the progressive era, beginning post-WWII, while the Epilogue offers a current perspective on progressive rock since the early 80's. I've also spent a good deal of time fact-checking every detail in the book, including song titles and artist names. Further, this edition has been professionally edited and peer reviewed, all to make this as exacting and rewarding a book as the music it covers. Strawberry Bricks is another narrative on the classic era of progressive rock, one with hopefully a novel and candid outlook on the genre, its albums and the men that made it one of the most interesting chapters in rock's history.”

With 212 more reviews, 210 more pages, completely fact-checked and professionally edited, and with a full index, the third edition is a substantial upgrade to owners of the first edition of the book. For owners of the second edition, Matt Howarth once again revisits his original artwork for Strawberry Bricks. Enjoy the music!

The Nikolov-Ivanovic Undectet feat. Magic Malik is a large ensemble with an eclectic instrumentation. This eleven-piece band led by pianist and arranger Vladimir Nikolov and drummer Srdjan Ivanovic fuses tradition and out-of-the-box thinking to produce sophisticated Balkan influenced music that challenges the listener on an emotional and intellectual level.

Featuring some of the best inter-generation musicians from Serbia and France the band is presenting their new album Frame and Curiosity. They were joined on the album by the flutist Malik Mezzadri, known as Magic Malik and upon realising the musical fit of Malik’s playing and sound with the Undectet, he became an important factor in the new album’s sound.

PHISH - PHUN WITH PHONICS

Last week, I was able to add "Phun With Phonics" to the collection.
It's a 2CD set Phish bootleg, released in 1996, that offers the April 26, 1996 show at the New Orleans Jazz Festival, plus an handful of bonus tracks (from 1994).
One of these bonus tracks is Phish performing FZ's 'Peaches En Regalia'. Nice. Very nice.

Earlier today, The Phish database said:
'Peaches en Regalia' was last played July 22, 2017, which was 102 shows ago.
There have been 1,813 shows since the live debut.
'Peaches En Regalia' was played 85 time(s).

R.I.P. DANNY RAY THOMPSON

info from the Arkestra on Facebook:

Sad to say Danny Ray 'Pico' Thompson left the planet last night. For decade we traveled the space-ways with Danny and he was loved world-wide. Danny handled many responsibilities for Sun Ra, Marshall and the band.

For Sun Ra, Marshall and many of us Danny was like our brother (from another planet!) and we will miss him dearly.

BRIAN TARQUIN'S VEGAS BLUE

from GlassOnyonPR

Emmy Award Winning Guitarist Brian Tarquin's “Vegas Blue” In Memory of Las Vegas Tragedy

Featuring guest artists Steve Morse, Trey Gunn, Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal, Phil Naro, Hal Lindes, Tony Carey and others!

Las Vegas, Nevada, Mandalay Bay Hotel, October 1st, 2017. This was the site of a tragic and, all too familiar, occurrence involving a deadly mass shooting at the hands of a deranged gunman. What began that evening as a peaceful and celebratory country music concert ended in bullet-riddled chaos and carnage for countless patrons and innocent by-standers. This latest recording project by multi-Emmy winning guitarist/producer/engineer Brian Tarquin and company is dedicated to helping the families and survivors of this horrific mass shooting. And, in doing so, may also shine the spotlight on the need for sensible, responsible and humane gun laws and safety.

Says Brian, “This release is dedicated to the victims of the tragic events that occurred at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas October 1, 2017. All of our hearts and prayers go out to them and their families. Through this music we have tried to creatively express our deepest feelings.”

ZAPPA MOVIE UPDATE

from Alex Winter :

Hey all. I hope everyone is staying safe out there as the world deals with the expanding Covid-19 health crisis. There are much more important issues at play here obviously, but I wanted to leave a quick note about how our film is being impacted so people are aware. The SXSW festival cancelled, which prevented our film from having its world premiere there. We are currently scheduled to screen at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen on March 19, unless they too cancel. And there are other festivals around the world that have accepted the film, which we can't name until they officially announce, and at this time we aren't sure if they will continue as planned or cancel. Likewise, as Los Angeles is in a state of emergency, we had to postpone the Hollywood premiere and other backer screenings until such time that we can safely hold these screenings.

It's very frustrating for us, as I'm sure it is for all of you. But safety is most important and the health crisis at hand is a very serious one. Wishing everyone the best at this time, and I will post more news as we have it.

TUMBLEWEED - THE WATERFRONT YEARS 1991-1993

Australian stoner rock band Tumbleweed release their version of FZ's 'Trouble Every Day' as the third track on their "Daddy Long Legs' CD single in 1993.
The track can also be found on this Tumbleweed compilation album that collects all the material the band released on the Waterfront record label.
Comes in a beautiful package with a fine booklet !

KEITH EMERSON - HAMMER IT OUT, THE ANTHOLOGY

The late British musician and composer, prog rock legend, Keith Emerson was best known for his role in The Nice and in Emerson, Lake and Palmer. This “Hammer It Out” compilation album included a recording of The Nice performing FZ’s ‘Lumpy Gravy’ theme, recorded during a BBC session.
It got released on the "BBC Sessions" album by The Nice in 2002, and would get another reissue on Keith Emerson's, "Off The Shelf", in 2006.

PIERRE VERVLOESEM - JOHN KOENIG 2020

I mentioned this fine reworked version of Pierre Vervloesem's "John Koenig" album a little while ago.
In the meantime, it has been added to Pierre's discography over at http://www.united-mutations.com/v/pierre_vervloesem.htm

OSSI DURI - NIENTE SQUOLO, NIENTE MAESTRE

"Niente Squolo, Niente Maestre" was the first release by Ossi Duri. I had always thought that this was a CDR-release (don't remember when or where I bought it but that must be quite a while ago), so imagine my surprise when I saw it offered as an actual CD !!
Released on Dumbo Records.
Data has been adjusted in the United Mutations Archives.

The album presented four original compositions by Filippo Bellavia plus Ossi Duri’s version of FZ’s ‘Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance’.

SHE DREW THE GUN - TROUBLE EVERY DAY

Last year, She Drew The Gun recorded an updated and ZFT-approved version of FZ's 'Trouble Every Day'. It got released on a 4-track 12" single.
At the same time, Viaduct Promotions made a promotional CDR available with just one track: 'Trouble Every Day'.
I like this.

ANDREAS SCHAERER & HILDEGARD LERNT FLIEGEN - THE WAVES ARE RISING, DEAR!

I first heard Hildergard Lernt Fliegen at Zappanale in 2017. It was a highlight.
A week ago, the band released a brand-new album, "The Waves Are Rising, Dear!".

Hildegard Lernt Fliegen has a peculiar line-up. Next to (amazing) vocalist and composer Andreas Schaerer, the ensemble features one tuba, two saxes, bass and drums.
Listening to it at this very moment. I love it.

Out on CD and on vinyl !

FRANK ZAPPA - ROCK BOX

I guess I mentioned this new Zappa 'radio show' CD box a little while ago.

MORE NEWS ON THE SUN RA BOX SET

Irwin Chusid adds:

We've been planning this with Strut for almost a year. The bonus material comes partly from Michael Anderson's tape library and partly from Hartmut Geerken.

Yes, this release will eventually be available in all formats. The release news below is for a Record Store Day special edition, which is always vinyl-only (that's what RSD is about—getting people to shop for LPs at indie record stores). RSD releases usually have some bell and/or whistle (colored vinyl, a knick-knack in the sleeve, etc.). There's an exclusive RSD sales period, after which labels can release their titles in all formats with the bell and/or whistle removed.

FREAK KITCHEN - COMPILATION PROMO

Mattias IA Eklundh's Freak Kitchen released their latest album in 2018, "Confusion To The Enemy".
This little promo album, however, is something completely different. It got released in 2001 presenting material from the first four Freak Kitchen albums (with the original line-up), plus a video clip of 'Jerk' !

Here's the second track, 'Walls Of Stupidity',

SUN RA BOX SET ANNOUNCED FOR RECORD STORE DAY

Record Store Day should see the release of a Sun Ra 5 LP box entitled "Egypt 1971".

In December 1971, Sun Ra made an impromptu trip to Egypt with his Arkestra, his first time in the country. Hosted by drummer Salah Ragab and Goethe Institute's Hartmut Geerken, they performed hastily arranged concerts at Ballon Theatre in Cairo and at Geerken's house in Heliopolis. The performances emerged on three LPs released by Ra during the '70s: 'Horizon', 'Nidhamu' and 'Dark Myth Visitation Equation'. These three LPs now receive their first reissue on vinyl alongside two LPs of previously unreleased recordings. Rare photos and extensive new liner notes by Geerken and Paul Griffiths complete a definitive package celebrating Sun Ra's iconic trip to the Land of Ra. First vinyl reissue + 2xLP previously unreleased material.

Who the F*@% is Frank Zappa

A message from Alex Winter :

Little update about the movie touring festivals around the world, other events coming up and more FZ goodies if you missed out!

WE WOULD PLAY IT AGAIN 'N' AGAIN 'N' AGAIN!

The SXSW premiere is coming up and if anyone is coming to Austin you can find info on those screenings here, as well as the panel with several of the key players on our team. Come along if you’re in town! We’ll also be playing other great festivals around the world before our general release and the next one is the prestigious CPH:DOX in Copenhagen! We’re working on the distribution plan now so we’ll post news on that and other festival screenings as we have it. And of course those who chose the Hollywood premiere are aware and news is going out on the dates for the other private backer screenings that I will also be attending. I look forward to meeting everyone and discussing all things FZ! As we told everyone, the digital and dvd copies of the movie will go out once we’re into the general distribution, along with the book and the soundtracks! We are so proud and in love with this movie and can't wait for you all to see it!

ARRIVE TOO LATE TO SAVE A DROWNING WITCH?

Did you show up late to the Kickstarter, or not get the stuff you wanted? It’s not too late. We still have a bunch of amazing things in our storage here at Trouper and we know it would be happier in your hands than ours! The FZ goods include: Signed and and unsigned prints (Bickford! Schenkel! Kricfalusi!), official campaign poster (signed and unsigned), guitar straps, the glorious coffee table book (with an exclusive essay on FZ by David Fricke!!!), digital copies of the ZAPPA soundtrack album (with original art by Cal Schenkel!!!), and more! SPLASH - SPLASH 1970-1979 - SAMTLIGA INSPELGINGAR

Swedish rock and jazz ensemble Splash existed between 1970 and 1979. They released three records in that period of time.
The band was influenced a lot by the music of Frank Zappa and performed several FZ compositions in concert from time to time.
The "Splash 1970-1979 - Samtliga Inspelgingar" got released in 2018, re-releasing the entire Splash catalogue with lots of bonus material.
The radio show on disc four includes Splash performing 'Peaches En Regalia', 'My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama' and 'Eat That Question'.
Disc five, with live recordings from the Europop tour, presents 'Peaches En Regalia' and 'Eat That Question'.
Disc six is a data disc with an mp4-movie and lots of mp3 recordings from various concerts. Again, live performances of the above mentioned Zappa pieces, plus a rehearsal of 'Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus'.

What a nice discovery.
Great box set. Every disc in a separate cover plus a beautiful booklet.
These guys won some sort of music competition at the Bilzen festival in the early seventies ! In Belgium, that is.

The deluxe re-issue of Phast Phreddie The Precisions 1984 "Limbo" album presents a lot of bonus material, including two FZ compostions: 'Peaches En Regalia' and 'Hungry Freaks Daddy'. The latter could be found on the 2019 7" on Spacecase records.

It's a nice easy listening / jazz album and includes a track called 'Lumpy Gravy' but it's not the FZ composition. It's an Ed Roth original !!

UNDERKARL - MARATON

Underkarl is / was Sebastian Gramms's project.
Featuring Sebastian Gramms on double bass, Lömsch Lehman on reeds, Nils Wogram on trombone, Frank Windgold on guitar and Dirk-Peter Kölsch on drums, Underkarl released their first album in 1996.
Their third release, "Maraton", got recorded at the Jazzmarathon festival in Groningen, NL, in October 2000. It included a mash-up of 'Dancing Queen (Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Stig Anderson) / Caravan (Duke Ellington, Irving Mills, Juan Tizol) / Eat That Question' (Frank Zappa)'.

Superb !!
The entire album is amazing. The mash-up with the Zappa track is just the icing on the cake.

This album was on my want list for quite a while...
Thanks again for this fine gift, J. !!

NIACIN - ORGANIK

Fusion band Niacin got founded in 1996 by Billy Sheenan, John Novello and Dennis Chambers. The band released numerous albums. Their 2005 "Organik" album included FZ's 'King Kong'.

I was happy to find the promo for this album recently.
It was just the booklet with the CD, with a black and white version of the label that had“For Promotion Only / Not for sale” printed on it.

JUECHENG CHEN AND GENE PRITSKER - OPERATIC ELECTRIC

American contemporary composer Gene Pritsker keeps on exploring new paths. On "Operatic Electric", Gene teams up with countertenor Juechen 'Ju-eh' Cheng, a countertenor, to perform a series of classic arias.
Next to the re-worked and re-arranged classical pieces by  John Dowland, Henry Purcell, Sergei
Rachmaninoff, and Claudio Monteverdi, the duo also performs original compositions by Gene Pritsker.

Combining the classical male voice with electronics makes "Operatic Electric" an eclectic adventure.
I like it.

MISSING PERSONS ANNOUNCE NEW STUDIO ALBUM

from GlassOnyon PR

'80s New Wave Icons MISSING PERSONS Featuring Vocalist DALE BOZZIO Announce New Studio Album And First Single!

Los Angeles, CA - New wave icons, and one of the most influential electronic musical acts of all-time, Missing Persons featuring original vocalist Dale Bozzio, are readying a new studio album. Bozzio's inimitable vocal style, as heard on such classics as “Words,” “Destination Unknown,” and “Walking In L.A.,” is the heart and soul of Dreaming, the astonishing new studio album of cover songs and original tunes. Produced by the multi-talented Adam Hamilton (David Hasselhoff / William Shatner), Dreaming offers lush keyboards and atmospheric interpretations of some classic rock/pop songs by fellow '80s legends The Cars, Joy Division, and The The as well as The Rolling Stones, The Mama's & The Papas, and more - all brought to life by Bozzio's unmistakable voice. The album also offers 3 original compositions - the dark and moody “Lipstick,” the haunting title track “Dreaming” and the compelling “This Time” - that demonstrate Missing Persons' relevance to the modern electronic scene.

Listen to the first single, a wildly imaginative and infectious cover of Strawberry Alarm Clock's '60s classic “Incense And Peppermints”:

https://www.goldminemag.com/news/audio-premiere-of-missing-persons-cover-of-incense-and-peppermints

Bozzio offers these thoughts on the making of the album saying “This was such an easy, breezy album to make, even though it’s been a long time coming. I think fans will really appreciate the sultriness of this direction of the music and the honesty of the vocals.”

Dreaming will be available on both CD and in a limited-edition PINK vinyl as well as on all digital platforms beginning March 20.

And watch for Bozzio’s exciting, tell-all autobiography “Life Is So Strange” coming later this year!

Track List:
1. California Dreamin'
2. Lipstick
3. Dreaming
4. We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
5. Playing With Fire
6. Just What I Needed
7. This Is The Day
8. Love Will Tear Us Apart
9. Images Of Heaven
10. Incense And Peppermints
11. This Time
12. In The Rain

KING BUZZO FEATURING TREVOR DUNN

The second solo album from the Melvins' frontman, King Buzzo, featuring special guest Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantomas) on bass.

THE NICE - BBC SESSIONS

The Nice’s “BBC Sessions” album got an unofficial release in Japan. It was an exact copy of the UK edition, including Keith Emerson’s rendition of FZ’s ‘Lumpy Gravy’.
It came with an OBI and with an extra Japanese insert.

ORTH - FEED THE FLAMES

German death-metal band Orth released a rather peculiar version of FZ's 'Bobby Brown' on their "Feed The Flames" album in 2000 but you probably already knew that.
But did you also know that, contrary to the regular jewel-case edition, the promo-CD came in a cardboard cover ?!?
A nice find. Even if I say so myself.

OSTBAHN-KURTI UPDATE

Ostbahn-Kurti & Die Chefpartie's 'Bertl Braun' (a German/Swiss version of FZ's Bobby Brown') was a local hit in the early nineties, resulting it to be present on various sampler albums.

Here's two more that were added to The Others Of Invention :

SNARKY PUPPY - LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL

Recorded in November 2019 at The Royal Albert Hall in London, UK, this 2 CD set caught Snarky Puppy at an excellent concert.
A 'fan' 2 CD edition of 1500 copies was available for pre-order last year. It got released this week.
A 'regular' 2 CD edition should be out in March.
There's also a triple vinyl album available.

I received the download a little while ago as I  had pre-ordered the 2 CD set.
Getting the physical copy, however, is still a very enjoyable moment. Not only to hold, to cherish and to investigate, but also to play it again (and again).

Beautiful.

THE MUFFIN MEN TO PERFORM AT THE ZAPPANALE FESTIVAL

From the Zappanale newsletter :

Dear Zappa and Zappanale fans,

Now all acts are fixed for the 31st Zappanale.

Pareto was right again, the last 20% of a task takes 80% of the time of this task.

Therefore, the program was not fixed until Christmas, which consequently means that we will start booking the bands for the 32nd Zappanale even earlier this year. Applications are already plentiful.

The Muffin Men will play in their original line-up for their 30th anniversary. Denny Walley and Mike Keneally will be their special guests. Mike also plans to play as guest musician with the Hilo Jazz Orchestra.

'A HIT BY VARÉSE' BY CHICAGO

KAVKA ZAPPA

Concert hall "Kavka Zappa", or "Zappa", celebrated its tenth anniversary last year.

POSTHUMANBIGBANG - JUNGLE EYES

On March 20th 2020 Czar Of Crickets Productions will release the new album, "Jungle Eyes" by progressive post-metal experimentalists Posthumanbigbang.

The Swiss collective Posthumanbigbang surrounding mastermind Remo Häberli enters the new decade with its signature mix of experimental and post metal, progressive rock and film scoring with dips of atmospheric synths and native world music. It’s a melting pot of fragile melodies, hard-hitting tunes, sophisticated and honest lyrics, versatile vocals and full steam drumming.

Supported by all original members plus seven great guest musicians on this unfathomable record - especially to highlight Mike Liechti’s incredible drum work - and covered by an astonishing Artwork by Philipp Thöni (BlackYard), “Jungle Eyes” will show its audience a gripping journey of life.

After this long process of intense work in writing, recording and producing the music, the result is a magnum opus with an astounding level of depth, density and range, focusing on strong emotions and elaborate sonority.

Here's 'Cycles' :

MICK FARREN - TO THE MASTERLOCK

Recorded in concert in Japan in 2004 and released on the Japanese Captain Trip Records label, “To The Masterlock” presents Mick Farren performing FZ’s ‘Trouble Every Day’, a song that he had previously recorded on his 1978 solo album “Vampires Stole My Lunch Money”.

DOCTOR NERVE - LOUD

Nick Didkovsky's Doctor Nerve has just released an EP. It had been a while. My notes tell me that the previous album was from 2012.
"Loud", the CD EP presents 6 tracks. Love them.
The download version, however, has 11 bonus tracks !!

Here's the info from Bandcamp / Punos Music :
Mixed by Nik Chinboukas whose recording credits include Testament and Metal Allegiance, and mastered for maximum impact by Thomas Dimuzio, "LOUD" brings you four new Doctor Nerve tunes (and a bunch of bonus tracks) that are as aggressive as they are intricate.

Bonus tracks include alternative versions of the tunes with guitar solos by Henry Kaiser, Mike Keneally, Robert Musso, Kevin Hufnagel, René Lussier, Andrew Hawkins, Matt Hollenberg, and Shawn Persinger!

And that's what makes this album so exceptional.
Next to the pulsating, recurring melody lines, you now get recurring tracks as well. But each time with a different guest musician. Wowie Zowie !! This is absolutely great.
Energetic. Raw.
Enchanting. Hypnotic. Mesmerizing.

I ordered my package last week. Comes with a poster. Artwork by Okano Masato.
This one will get framed.
It fits the album perfectly.

BERTL BRAUN

In 1992, Ostbahn-Kurti & Die Chefpartie released a German version of FZ's 'Bobby Brown', entitled 'Bertl Braun'.
It became a hit in Austria and as a result the track can be found on various 'hit' compilation albums.
Here's two recent additions to the United Mutations Archives :

NILS DACKE - PA BEGARAN

About ten years ago, the Scranta Grammafon record label released this Super Audio CD compilation album by Nils Dacke.
Nils, also known as "Disco' Dacke, released a series of albums on which he plays pop hits on his organ. Think elevator music. Or think birthday party at the resting home.

Anyway, Nils Dacke recorded FZ's 'Bobby Brown' and released it on Volume 7 of his "Nils Dacke Spele PartyOrgel" series. In 1979 !!
Due to great demand, or another reason, Nils' version of 'Bobby Brown' also found its way to this Super Audio CD compilation.

Fun !!

Here's Volume 1. You can thank me later.

ETT FETT SORBAND - ZAPPANANZA

It's not easy to keep track of all the download-only digital releases.
Here's an interesting one: the Swedish Ett Fett Storband, performing the music of Frank Zappa.
On iTunes.

Here's a cell phone recording that will give you an impression of what these guys are up to.

DAUERFISCH - POP FAKES VOL.1

German duo Dauerfisch (Achim Treu and Andre Abshagen) released"Pop Fakes Vol.1" in 1994. This cassette-release included parodies of famous rock songs, opening with FZ's 'Lumpy Gravy' !!

Talking to Achim Treu, who you might know as Künstler Treu (the man behind UFO Hawaii), he told me that they also made a CDR-version at the time but 'only for friends and family'.

UFO HAWAII - RESIDENTS RESIFTED

Künstler Treu, also known as UFO Hawaii, has his version of The Residents' 'Simolina' up on Bandcamp. It's little teaser for an EP that he made available on iTunes.

Pop versions of Residents tunes. Check it out :

Work on this album started a good while ago when I received an invitation to join Der Plan for a Residents tribute festival in the Netherlands. After we met up with Hardy Fox, who was touring Berlin at the time, Moritz® picked two hands full of what he considered essential Residents songs, and I began working on some of them in preparation for the live show.

Unfortunately the festival was canceled due to financial problems soon thereafter, and half a dozen songs in progress ended up vanishing into the drawer.

But only until just recently, when I then rediscovered them, and - after having a fresh listen - found them quite worthy of being given some finishing touches.
Also, Mr. JJ Jones was kind - and interested - enough to join in, contributing his versatile singing abilities to the songs.

So here you go… These are the five cover versions that came out of our combined efforts.

Have fun listening, and keep watching the skies.

Yours,

Künstler Treu
