- big band del foro: quiet
(1995, spain, cd, sufre records)
The second track on the CD was entitled 'Vals Para Frank Zappa', a jazzy tribute to the music of Frank Zappa.
"Does Pierre Vervloesem release a lot of material".
Yes, he does. He released over ten albums in 2023 alone.
"Does it all have the 'wow' factor".
Probably not. But I like what he does, in all its different musical forms and shapes. And every once in a while, he releases music that will have you raise your eyebrows. "Dark Matter 5 - Dark Matter 6" is such an album.
Cinematographic, narrative.
What a fine journey. Beautiful pieces (and instrumentation) !
Pierre added:
The third and final album about dark matter. We don't know more.
A big thank you to all the scientists of this expedition.
Dark Matter 6 is dedicated to Bill Laswell.
Highly recommended !!
Earlier this month, on October 14, the Czech Frank Zappa Fan Club had a meeting to celebrate the release of Czech version of Pauline Butcher Bird's book "Freak Out! My Life With Frank Zappa".
We saw The Sun Ra Arkestra (under the direction of Knoel Scott) in concert at De Singer in Rijkevorsel a couple of days ago.
We were told that Marshall Allen wasn't present on the tour as he would have had to pay extra insurance to get on the plane. Because of his age. (He's 99 years old). Incredible.
But what a show.
Chris Hemingway on saxophone. A name to remember.
The band is doing another couple of shows on the continent, but you'll have to hurry:
at De Singer
a recent YouTube video, with Chris Hemingway taking the first solo !!
Live 1991
FYI, the "Charming Snakes" album, from which material is performed, also featured Ed Mann !!

It changes every now and then, but today, for me, this is the best line-up Frank's band ever had: FZ, Napoleon, George, Ruth, Tom and Chester.
And if would have to pick some of my favorite tunes, you can just see them listed in this setlist.
If my memory serves me right, this was one of the first recordings that I got during the tape trading days...
I'm not convinced that this is the best available recording of this concert, but what a show...
‘Zoot Allures’ featured Stephen Foglia (guitar, Rhodes, bass, synth marimba) and Terry Carleton (drums).
Beyond the rare singles and unreleased tracks from the TFUL archives, are cover versions from such disparate artists and composers as: Ennio Morricone, Krzysztof Komeda, The Residents, The Shaggs, Caroliner Rainbow and Pérez Prado.
Three tracks.
Three tracks and a total time of almost 40 minutes.
Check it out !!
The album is OK, but the Zappa piece sounds great !! Really great.
Another beautiful addition to The Others Of Invention series...

A bit misleading maybe, as "Wreckage Vol.2" might be the album title of a compilation album, but that's not true at all.
Robert Jon & The Wreck's "Wreckage Vol.2" was the band's 10th album, released last year.
Released both on Robert Jon's label and on the Keep The Blues Alive label, "Wreckage Vol.2" is another fine release by the southern California-based band.
Bluesy southern rock.
An excellent way to start the day.
'Egg Nog'
Spirit of Unicorn Music are delighted to announce a brand new single and video from DISTRICT 97, to mark the launch of their new album Stay For The Ending which is now available worldwide.
The new single is the album’s title track, Stay For The Ending and combines dual themes rooted in both the real world and in metaphor. The song’s narrative addresses the ever-shifting, omnipresent threat of Covid-19 in its many variants and forms. The track also speaks to personal relationships, deceit and the breaking of trust. The band describe the song as being about “ghosts and flames, smoke and deception.”
The track was written by band keyboard player ANDREW LAWRENCE and vocalist LESLIE HUNT (AMERICAN IDOL FEMALE VOCALIST FINAL 2007). Andrew comments, “In writing this song, I tried to fit within the existing D97 canon whilst also adding my own twist. I kept the form of the song pretty simple so that we could focus more of our energy on getting these very difficult unison lines as tight as possible.”
Lead singer Leslie goes on to say, “When I heard the demo of Andrew’s new song, I could not wait to sing that chorus melody and perform it with the band. It’s so powerful and catchy - and I knew it would be insanely fun to wail on! It’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to sing in my life - but it also caused me to expand my range and now it feels easy and awesome to perform.”
Lawrence continues, “It’s been a pleasure hearing this song evolve, and I’ve loved the personality that all of the other band members have added to it.”
Elementus Musicalis just released 'Zappa's Sofa'.
I could also have been called 'The Sofa Variations'.

This is the first edition (1997) of the Italian translation.
Sam's Enchanted Evening is a theatrical performance by Randy Rose, lead singer of The Residents. It was performed between October 2011 and March 2012 in Berkeley, California and New York City. Rose's only companion on stage was long-time Residents collaborator Joshua Raoul Brody on piano. A one-man cabaret performance consisting largely of re-interpreted renditions of popular songs from the mid-to-late 20th century, interpreted by Rose in the guise of "Sam the Stranger", it was the first Residents-related performance piece to be credited to an individual member of the group.
