VARIOUS ARTISTS - SECRET RECORDS COMPILATION 2019 1/2

The Secret Records label has been releasing or re-releasing some fine albums on the vinyl format.
Their recent sampler is a fine showcase of their recent productions.
16 tracks, featuring The Residents, Hardy Fox, Snakefinger, Renaldo & The Loaf, Chrome, and lots of freaky stuff that was new to me.

It's a free sampler.
Check it out !!

THE DARKENING SCALE - STUCK BAD

Anyone who is fascinated by The Residents' "Duck Stab" EP or album should give "Stuck Bad" a listen.
The Darkening Scale is the solo project of David Janssen aka Ted The Loaf of Renaldo And The Loaf. It's a purely digital affair, DS started in 2006 when RATL was put on hold.
Originally, "Stuck Bad" was made available as an mp3 by David in 2011.

As David says : "Stuck Bad" : music inspired by and remixed from The Residents' "Duck Stab".

Beautiful.

Klanggalerie has put in on CD as a tribute to the late Hardy Fox.

POXODD

You may know Poxodd from the artwork for various Ostrich Von Nipple albums, or Renaldo And The Loaf albums.
Well, this very same Poxodd has released a beautiful art zine called "Stone Face Gang".
Issue number one is available as zine and also as separate and paired prints.

I received my copy today.
It looks great.

THE DARKENING SCALE - THE ENTOMOLOGY OF SOUND

For the Klanggalerie record label, 2016 was the year of Renaldo And The Loaf. The label re-issued "The Elbow Is Taboo", plus the new "Gurdy Hurdy" album.
Also in 2016, Klanggalerie added two albums by The Darkening Scale to their catalogue.

The Darkening Scale is David Janssen's solo project. David Janssen aka Ted The Loaf (of Renaldo And The Loaf).

Fascinating.

Here's something completely different : The Darkening Scale Play The Residents

THE DARKENING SCALE - SONIC ARCHAEOLOGY

The Darkening Scale is the solo project of David Janssen (from Renaldo and The Loaf). It started in 2006 when RATL was on hold.

David Janssen adds :
"Sonic Archaeology was the second Darkening Scale (originally the album was in 3 long chunks and, amazingly, Stuart Maconie played the whole of Part 1 on his Freak Zone radio programme). As with the Klanggalerie version of "The Entomology of Sound", this version of "Sonic Archaeology" is very different to the original version. Of the 15 tracks, 4 are completely new, and one, I have no memory of recording! The remainder of the tracks are drawn from "Sonic Archaeology" and "The Songs of Langtuhn Hemblu", again, many have been reworked, remixed and re-edited. One, 'Desperate Griper', has a surprising new vocalist."

I received a copy of this album as a gift from a friend at The Residents' concert in Leuven a little while ago. Beautiful package. 6-panel digipack with very recognisable (slightly frightening / disturbing) artwork by Poxodd. Looks great.
The first listening session was during the ride back home from that very same concert and I've listened to it again on numerous occasions during the last couple of months.
In the liner notes, David says : "No musical instruments were harmed whilst making this recording" which I find hard to believe. I'm not saying that it's not true. I'm just very impressed.

Electronic / adventurous music.
I think it's great.
Give it a listen (and do try track number 9 : 'T For Tuva').
