British experimental music project Nurse With Wound (NWW) released their first album, “Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Marchine And An Umbrella” in 1979. Although it got re-released several times, the album was initially issued in a limited numbered edition of 500 copies.

The album would get released on CD in 1990, also on the United Daries record label.
2024 would see a remastered re-issue on the Rotorelief record label: limited editions on different coloured vinyls.

The album insert listed NWW’s inspiration mentioning Frank Zappa, The Mothers Of Invention, and Captain Beefheart.

Later in their career, the band went on to record 'Trouble Every Day', although they called the piece 'Subterranean Zappa Blues'.

FRED FRITH AND ARTE QUARTETT - THE BIG PICTURE

British composer, improvisor and multi-instrumentalist Fred Frith was commissioned by the San Francisco-based Rova Saxophone Quartet to compose a suite. The resulting 23 pieces can be found on “Freedom In Fragments”, performed by the Rova Saxophone Quartet.
Track number 7, entitled ‘T Square Park Lark’, was dedicated to Frank Zappa. 

Fred would later record the same piece with the Arte Quartett and release it on “The Big Picture” in 2009.

"The Big Picture" was Fred Frith's second release with the Arte Quartett, the other one being "Still Urban". Both out on the Swiss Intakt Records label.

CHARLES MICHAEL - CHEWING UP SPACE

“Chewing Up Space” captured Charles Michael in concert at the Mezamiz Coffee House in Abilene, Texas on July 23, 2021. The set included FZ’s ‘Mr. Green Genes’, track 4 on the digital release.

Charles has performed and recorded Zappa pieces on earlier recordings:

'Mr. Green Genes' on "The End Of The Rainbow", 2021
'Mom & Dad' on "The Violet Album, 2021

NYOIL SAMPLED FRANK ZAPPA'S 'LONELY LITTLE GIRL'

NYOIL sampled Frank Zappa's 'Lonely Little Girl' on 'Unreal'.

The track can be found on the "Hoodtreason" album, released on CD in 2007 and re-released in 2008 as a deluxe 2 CD edition.

Italian saxophone player and composer Pietro Santangelo is part of the Slivovitz jazz ensemble, known for their eclectic approach to modern jazz. They have released several album on the MoonJune Records label.
More recently, Pietro recorded FZ's 'The Idiot Bastard Son' with his PS3 trio, featuring Vincenzo Lamagna on double bass and Salvatore Rainone on drums.
The track got released on their "Clinamen" album.

"Clinamen" presents 9 tracks.
Beautiful, modern jazz tracks.
All compositions by Pietro Santangelia except for a piece by John Zorn and one by Frank Zappa.
I have said it before and I will keep on saying it: I have discovered some great music listening to musicians who have recorded or performed Frank Zappa's music. The Pietro Santangelo Trio is a fine example of this.
