ARISTOCRATS TOUR DATES

A message from the Aristocrats

Having recently wrapped an exclusive run of completely sold out dates on the west coast of the United States (the “Duckling” tour) around the DUCK album’s release, guitarist Guthrie Govan, bassist Bryan Beller and drummer Marco Minnemann will now bring their trademark musical virtuosity and inherent absurdity back to stages all across the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico. They’ll be playing (and perhaps even explaining) a sizeable chunk of their new album DUCK, as well as classic cuts from their five-album catalogue.

Of the upcoming tour, Guthrie commented, “Our new concept album tells the tale of a Duck who travels thousands of miles from his home on a small island and ultimately finds himself in the US… As the sole UK-based member of The Aristocrats, I’m particularly looking forward to retracing his anatine steps this summer!". Marco adds, “It was exciting experiencing the great response and equally great fun we had taking our newest ‘Duck’ material briefly out on the road for a test drive. I cannot express more how much I look forward to presenting our most recent offerings to all of you wonderful people around the globe.” Bryan concludes, “We’re extremely proud of the DUCK album, but live onstage is where our music always truly comes alive. With that said: North America, we’ll see you soon!”

Revisiting The Aristocrats' "Duck" album as the "deluxe edition" not only came in a nice box, but also included a USB stick with lots of bonus stuff of which I really liked chapter five : the demos.

If you haven't decided which variation to buy, go for the deluxe edition.

NEW ARISTOCRATS STUDIO ALBUM ANNOUNCED

from The Aristocrats newsletter:

THE ARISTOCRATS reveal album title/concept of first new studio album in five years!

DUCK.

That’s the name of our fifth studio album, coming out on February 16. There’s the big news. And there’s a story to it and everything. Plus some fancy new artwork.

Pre-orders will start in early January. There will be a standard CD, a “DUCK Deluxe”, and DUCK vinyl. We’ll be playing lots of tunes from DUCK on the USA West Coast mini-tour to celebrate the release. It’s all very exciting. :-)

You can read more about it in the press release below.

Thank you again for your support on the DEFROST tour while we worked hard to finish this new music for you!

Cheers to all,
The Aristocrats

Renowned rock-fusion trio The Aristocrats are excited to reveal the album title and concept of their first studio album in five years: DUCK will be available in both standard and deluxe edition formats as well as vinyl on February 16th, 2024. The new concept album will be released via BOING Music, distributed via Hostile City Distro/MVD in North America. The trademark Aristocratic musical mayhem is rowdier than ever, but the band’s fifth studio album is truly like nothing else in their catalogue. DUCK is mixed by Forrester Savell (Twelve Foot Ninja, Dead Letter Circus, The Butterfly Effect) and contains original character artwork by film animator Lance Myers (Space Jam, Anastasia, Quest For Camelot).

Of the inspiration for DUCK, The Aristocrats collectively explained, “It is the story of a web-footed Antarctic Island native fleeing a penguin policeman all the way to New York City… where considerable misadventure and danger await.” Of its genesis, they elaborated, “We’ve always been writing with a storytelling aspect in mind, and our live shows always include our stories behind the songs… But the stories had mainly been about us. Then Marco came into the studio with a song about a duck, and we all looked at each other and said, ‘What if all of stories for the songs on this album… happened to a duck? What’s that story about?’ And suddenly we had a concept album on our hands.”

DUCK will be available in both standard and deluxe editions. The standard edition features the original CD, whilst the deluxe edition contains the original CD along with a USB DUCK drive with behind-the-scenes footage, demos and more, a DUCK pass laminate with QR code for bonus features and a custom Aristocrats-branded lanyard. DUCK will also be available in 180-gram double vinyl.

Coinciding with the release of DUCK, The Aristocrats will headline select dates on the West Coast of the United States.

MIKE KENEALLY & MARCO MINNEMANN - EVIDENCE OF HUMANITY

  • mike keneally & marco minnemann: evidence of humanity
        (2010, cd+dvd, usa, exowax recordings)
Having enjoyed a perfect dose of Marco Minnemann's music the last couple of days, what better way to continue than to revisit "Evidence Of Humanity".

Released in 2010, this album was part of Marco's "Normalizer 2" series, where he would send a drum track to different artists with the request to compose music to it.

"Evidence Of Humanity" is crazy. It's instrumental madness.
I like the concept, and like the finished result even more.

The DVD that came with the album included a 50 minute live duo improvisation...

Here's an excerpt:

MCSTINE & MINNEMANN - MCSTINE & MINNEMANN

  • McStine & Minnemann: s/t
        (2020, download/streaming, --, bandcamp)
McStine & Minnemann combines two multi-instrumentalists: Randy McStine and Marco Minnemann.

The duo has released four albums to this day, and I got to enjoy their first (eponymous) album this afternoon.
Blending progressive rock and metal, with an astonishing result.
I like it a lot.

Check it out !!

MARCO MINNEMANN - MY SISTER

  • marco minnemann: my sister
        (2019, download/streaming, --, bandcamp)
It should be no surprise that Marco Minnemann's albums always have the drums in front of the mix, which gives them this little extra punch. Love it.

The songs on this album are actual songs (beautiful melodies, including vocals) and the participating musicians are just awesome.

The album got released on CD and as a 2 LP set, privately released by Marco and available during concerts, but it has also been made available for download / streaming on Bandcamp.

Check it out.
Recommended listening.

PHI YAAN-ZEK - INTERDIMENSIONAL GARDEN PARTY

  • phi yaan-zek: interdimensional garden party
        (2022, cd, uk, geomagnetic records)
Let me start by saying that Phi Yaan-Zek's "Interdimensional Garden Party" is a top album. I had enjoyed the digital download, the amazing compositions, the outstanding technical performances, the interconnectedness of the different pieces,...
And then the physical copy of the album arrived, adding that extra level of intensity from enjoying the artwork, browsing through the booklet and figuring out the musicians on the different tracks while listening to the album again (and again).
We're Only In It For The Music, and Music Is The Best !!

"Interdimensional Garden Party" is a top album.
Wait. Let me rephrase: "Interdimensional Garden Party" is a TOP ALBUM;

With notable guest appearances for Lalle Larsson, Morgan Agren, Bryan Beller, Marco Minnemann and (the amazing) Mike Keneally.

Highly recommended !!

U.K. - CURTAIN CALL

  • u.k.: curtain call
(2023, blu-ray/dvd/blu-ray audio, usa, globe media arts)

"Curtain Call" was a live album by U.K.
Recorded in Kawasaki, Japan, in 2013 and released in 2015 but only in Japan !

  • Eddie Jobson - keyboards, electric violin
  • John Wetton - vocals, bass
  • Alex Machacek - guitar
  • Marco Minnemann - drums

The (amazing) band performed the two U.K. studio albums, "U.K." and "Danger Money", in concert.
Next to Eddie Jobson and John Wetton, these (original) albums featured Bill Bruford, Allan Holdsworth and Terry Bozzio.

The album / concert got re-released in Eddie Jobson's "Four Decades" box set, but has now also been made available as a separate release.

This newly remastered set presents both audio and video recordings of the concert (Blu-Ray, DVD and Blu-Ray Audio) in one single package.

Pretty amazing...

UK / EDDIE JOBSON

excellent news from GlassOnyonPR

Prog Legends UK’s 10th Anniversary Release of “Curtain Call (2023 Remaster)” Concert Video

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Jobson has announced the first worldwide release of “Curtain Call (2023 Remaster)” by the legendary progressive-rock supergroup UK. Previously only available in Japan, this one-off 2013 reunion concert in Tokyo features UK founding members Eddie Jobson and the late, great John Wetton, along with new-generation virtuosos Alex Machacek and super-drummer Marco Minnemann, and captures the only ever live performance of both UK studio albums “UK” and “Danger Money” in their entirety.

Released on both Blu-ray and DVD in a single package, this rare concert footage has been fully remixed and remastered for worldwide release on May 19th.

UK were a British progressive rock supergroup originally active from 1977 to 1980. The band was founded by bass guitarist John Wetton and drummer Bill Bruford, formerly the rhythm section of King Crimson, along with former Roxy Music and Frank Zappa violinist/keyboardist/composer Eddie Jobson; guitarist Allan Holdsworth completed the original lineup. Bruford and Holdsworth left in 1978, and Bruford was replaced by drummer Terry Bozzio.

Jobson, Wetton and Bozzio reformed UK for a world tour in 2012, with further Jobson-Wetton reunion tours extending through to 2015. Throughout their brief existence, UK’s music was characterised by skilled musicianship, complex harmony, odd time signatures, electric violin solos, and unusually varied synthesizer (Yamaha CS-80) sonorities. The band spans various genres ranging from progressive rock to jazz fusion.
