NEW FRANK ZAPPA BOOTLEGS

A recent visit to Brussels had me spot two new Frank Zappa vinyl bootleg albums.
Sort of counterfeits as they're vinyl versions of the "Roxy By Proxy" CD.
Both limited to 150 copies. On clear and on blue vinyl.

Here's the second part of Frank Zappa's "Road Tapes Venue 1" counterfeit vinyl bootleg album.
Also released on red vinyl in a limited edition of 150 copies.

This is the first part of Zappa's "Road Tapes Venue #1" CD album, released as a counterfeit.
It has been produced in a limited edition of 150 copies, on red vinyl.
It got released in early 2014.

A 12" vinyl picture disc bootleg of Zappa's "Joe's Camouflage".
400 copies made.

FRANK ZAPPA - THE COMPLETE BBC TV BROADCAST

Here's another bootleg release. I found this one in July, I think. It's a 2LP set with the music that was broadcast on a recent BBC documentary, if I'm not mistaken.
2LP's: one on blue and one on mauve / lilla / purple vinyl.
As a bonus, the album included a CD entitled "Bamboozled By Circus Krone". I don't get the link with the vinyl album, but that's probably me...
The set was produced in a limited edition of 300 numbered copies.

ZAPPA / MOTHERS - ROXY BY PROXY

As far as I know, the "Roxy By Proxy" album by three different parties: by the ZFT, by Mark Logan, and by 'Dal Vivo'. The latter one did not only produce a standard jewelcase edition, but also a version that came in a 10" cardboard booklet. Nice. Very nice.

There's also a 2 LP vinyl bootleg version. Two to be exact. One on green vinyl and a second one on red vinyl.
Predictable and illegal.

Originally meant to be included in a Mothers box set.
Found / bought by RJ a couple of years ago.
Ripped by RJ and shared on Zappateers.

FRANK ZAPPA - AHEAD OF THEIR TIME (BOOTLEG)

Here's another counterfeit. If I'm not mistaken, this one got released somewhere in 2012. It's a limited edition of 100 copies on marble coloured vinyl, including a poster of the album cover.

The album cover says that it got produced in Japan on the Video Arts Music label, under license from Rykodisk.
I don't think so.

FRANK ZAPPA - EUROPE 1980 (BOOTLEG BOX)

Is this a new way to lure collectors and fetishists?

Next to their "King Of Prussia" box, Way Of Wizard Records also released "Europe 1980".
It's another fabulous box set, including 4 LP's, 4 CD's and a 16-page LP-sized booklet.
The four LP's, each with their own cover, include red vinyl albums.

Spanning the 4 LP's are two excellent 1980 concerts: 1980/05/24 Rotterdam and 1980/06/21 Geneva.
The CD's carry the same material.

Quite impressive.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART - BAT CHAIN PULLER (BOOTLEG)

A real counterfeit.
On white vinyl.

FRANK ZAPPA - KING OF PRUSSIA (BOOTLEG BOX)

"King Of Prussia" is a firm cardboard box with a 3D-cover. The box contains 4 LP's, 2 CD's and an LP-sized 16-page booklet with articles.
Each LP has it's own full colour cover and is pressed on yellow vinyl.
I thought I had detoxed from bootlegs, but this box just looked too good.

Nicely displayed on the 4 albums is the 1978/02/15 Berlin concert.

FRANK ZAPPA - SWISS CHEESE

Here's another one of these legendary concerts: Zappa and The Mothers live in Basel, Switzerland, October 1, 1974.
Released on the Scorpio label, this factory pressed 3CD bootleg includes both the early and the late show.
These concerts have been bootlegged numerous times.
Nice package, nice artwork, but still superfluous.
Fans of (audience) concert recordings should check out Zappateers.

FRANK ZAPPA, BEEFHEART & THE MOTHERS - WATER TURNING BLACK

Old news for some, as this 2CD factory pressed bootleg album got released a bit over a year ago.
The package presents a famous Zappa / Beefheart / Mothers concert. In fact, this was the first Zappa concert that I received on tape years (and years) ago.

Rather sloppy artwork, and if you want to hear the best available version of this concert, you should check out the zappateers website.
