FRENCH TV - THE SPANISH CAPER

  • French TV: The Spanish Caper
(2026, cd, USA, cuneiform rune 544/545)
The Cuneiform record label has released a beautiful 2 CD album by Louisville-born avant-prog veterans French TV.
Disc One offers complex instrumentals written in Northern Spain, while Disc Two delivers an obscure collection of late-60s/early-70s heavy-rock and psych covers.

Disc One sounds great, but check out this great list of tracks on Disc Two.
There's a lot of nice things to discover here !

ALEC K. REDFEARN AND THE EYESORES

The Cuneiform Record label added a 15' bonus live track to ALEC K. REDFEARN AND THE EYESORES' "The Smother Party".

The live bonus track (#10) was appended in May, 2026 with Alec's full endorsement. This is a rare, good quality recording of the large scale Eyesores in full, LOUD concert flight!

It's not perfect, but it captures something aggressive and noisy, with Frank Difficult conjuring up hell as a full member of the ensemble!

If you already own this album, this track is now yours for no charge and you can stream it download it and enjoy it evermore.

If you don't already own this album or know this band, head on over and listen to the last track!

  • b.mez: Under Circuitous Skies
        (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp / cuneiform)
        (2026, cd, USA, cuneiform)

b.mez is (sort of) short for Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic.
The listener is treated to 9 fascinating pieces of instrumental music, including soundscapes, electronics and melodic loops.

Featuring Michael Bierylo (Guitar, Modular Synthesizer, Loops), Ken Field (Alto & Sopranino Saxophones, Concert & Alto Flutes, Percussion, Loops), Roger Miller (Guitar, Rogue Lap-Steel Guitars, Electric Piano, Piano, Prepared Piano, Loops), and Rick Scott (Synthesizers, Loops).

All the music on "Under Circuitous Skies" was completely improvised, which makes it even more remarkable.

Out on the Cuneiform record label.

MIKE JOHNSON - THE GARDENS OF LOSS

  • Mike Johnson: The Gardens Of Loss
        (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp / cuneiform)
        (2026, cd, USA, cuneiform rune)
Mike Johnson is the man behind Thinking Plague, the Denver, Colorado-based RIO / avant-garde progressive rock band.
Thinking Plague released eight albums between 1984 and 2017.

For some reason, Mike decided that his next release would not be credited to Thinking Plague, but to Mike Johnson.

Check out the nice review at Peinemmät Purot !
or just dive into the record :

(featuring Simon Steensland and Morgan Agren !)

JANEL LEPPIN'S ENSEMBLE VOLCANIC ASH - PLUTO IN AQUARIUS

  • Janel Leppin’s Ensemble Volcanic Ash: Pluto In Aquarius
        (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp / cuneiform)
        (2026, cd, USA, cuneiform)

The Cuneiform record label recently released "Pluto In Aquarius", a new album by Janel Leppin's Ensemble Volcanic Ash quintet.

With Janel Leppin's cello at the central stage, the ensemble performs impressive, cinematic compositions.

Throughout "Pluto in Aquarius", the group’s language and interplay might seem leaner, meaner and grittier to veteran Ensemble Volcanic Ash fans. Leppin found a new pared-back feel for the ensemble — often less like a midsize chamber ensemble and more like a scrappy combo. “It’s a really raw sound and I love that,” Leppin says. “We had played some shows in this format and it was like, ‘Wow, this is a whole other thing now.’”

The five-piece group melds an illustrious array of D.C. talent into a glimmering expressive organism that surges, expands, ebbs and dances in multiple directions at once.

Quite different from "Slowly Melting", Janel's other recent release, but equally exiting.
Out on Bandcamp, and on CD.

JANEL LEPPIN - SLOWLY MELTING

  • Janel Leppin: Slowly Melting
        (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp / cuneiform)
        (2026, cd, USA, cuneiform)

On "Slowly Melting", Janel Leppin plays all the instruments: her main instrument, cello, but also guitar, keyboard and bass.

"Slowly Melting" is a beautiful album, with cello lines reminiscent of choral singing.
The emphasis is on the melodic aspect, which creates a soothing atmosphere.

FRÉDÉRIC L'EPÉE - CONTRE COURANT

  • Frédéric L’Epée: Contre Courant
        (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp / cuneiform)

The Cuneiform Records label continues their series of download / streaming-only releases. It even looks as they have picked up the pace.

One of the more recent releases on the Cuneiform label is Frédéric L'Epée's "Contre Courant" to which Frédéric added:
"As we have all experienced, music has healing properties. Without thinking about it or seeking it out, the music I have created in recent years has very often taken the form of a therapeutic act, like a musical cure aimed at bringing peace and serenity.

Most of us are aware of the decline of the Western world. Although it has long been presented to us as the best possible, the inevitability of its collapse, dragging all of humanity down with it, is now becoming increasingly clear. Some people are still standing up to fight against this meltdown, and their humanitarian, social, or political actions help us to maintain hope. Some others strive to ease suffering and tensions, more like caregivers.

Unconsciously, my musical work has gradually shifted toward—and then identified with— a kind of treatment, an act of abstract care."
- Frédéric L'Epée

The result is beautiful.
Fifteen pieces of solo electric guitar.
Melodic, narrative, meditative.

Fascinating.

REVOLUTIONARY SNAKE ENSEMBLE - SERPENTINE

  • Revolutionary Snake Ensemble: Serpentine
(2025, cd, USA, cuneiform rune 549)

As ordering from the States is becoming almost impossible due to rising postage costs and exuberant custom handling fees, I was fortunate to see that copies of Ken Field's Revolutionary Snake Ensemble  got distributed into Europe.

Excellent music, including a fine version of FZ's 'Son Of Mr. Green Genes'.

A fine addition to The Others Of Invention.
