SUN RA ON WKCR FM RADIO

Calling all shadows!

On Thursday, May 22nd, the living myth known to many as Sun Ra will be turning 100 earth-years.

WKCR-FM will be celebrating the immortal Ra accordingly with a centennial festival, running from Monday May 19th through Sunday May 25th.
As an integral part of the Afro-Surrealist / Afro-Futurist movements, Sun Ra has left us earthlings with an incredibly prolific collection of music, poetry, philosophy, and more to listen to + learn from.
Come get enlightened, and tune in throughout the week on 89.9FM-NY or, alternatively, online at www.wkcr.org.

We'll be posting a full broadcasting schedule soon, but so far, look forward to a combination of continuous and show-specific programming throughout the week. * Thursday May 22nd (his actual birthday) and Friday May 23rd will consist of a 48-hour continuous broadcast.

* The Friday May 16th "Offbeat" (1-5am) will feature beats sampling// mixing Ra
* The Monday May 19th, Tuesday May 20th, and Wednesday May 21st "Out to Lunches" (12-3pm) will consist of "Intro to Ra" programming + archived interviews with Ra himself
* The Wednesday May 21st "Musician's Show" (6-9pm) will air an interview with long-time Arkestra trumpeter Chris Capers
* The Sunday May 25th "Jazz 'til Dawn" (1-6am) and "Jazz Profiles" (2-7pm) programming will serve as the closing ceremonies for the Centennial

Till then, yours in moonshoes & alternate realities,
WKCR Jazz
