NEW ALBUM BY JOHN TABACCO

John Tabacco:
I wrote a bunch of short stories and ran them through ChatGPT. I indicated what style / author I wanted for each story i.e Woody Allen, Edgar Allen Poe, Ray Bradbury, Dorothy Parker, Fitzgerald, Virginia Woolf, David Foster Wallace etc... After which I modified the story to my liking. In some cases I actually read the stories myself but the majority of the orators were culled from elevenLabs.io/speech-synthesis.

As far as I know, there are only two Frank Zappa (paper) fanzines being published.
There's The Arf Dossier (Germany) and Zappostrophe (Czech Republic).

The biggest part of issue number 144 of Zappostrophe is dedicated to an interview that John Tabacco and the late Nigey Lennon did with Lorraine Belcher in 2010, entitled "The Studio Z Story".

NEW ALBUM BY THE VEGETARIANS

Eclectic Music Ensemble The Vegetarians Release New Album “Bill Haley”

The Vegetarians is a project lead by Hans Annellsson, composer & musician from Sweden, working together with several different singers such as John Tabacco, Robin Schell, John Crowe, Marc Mollan, John Marshall Gibbs and Napoleon Murphy Brock. The project started around 2000 as a vehicle for recording some prog covers of YES, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Genesis, ELP, Adrian Belew, Peter Hammill etc. The prog covers can be found on the albums “Remustered & Remixed Salad” and “The Calling”.

The new album, “Bill Haley,” a mixture of Prog/Alternative/Classic Rock, consists of fourteen original songs, mostly written by Annellsson-Tabacco, and one cover written by Susan DeVita. The recording was done by sending files back and forth. John recorded all his vocals at his studio in Long Island and Hans recorded his parts at Annellssongs studio, the mix being done at Studio Loftet in Malmö, Sweden. There are plenty of musicians on the album, most notably Morgan Ågren (Devin Townsend, Mats/Morgan Band, Zappa’s Universe) on drums, Mats Öberg (Mats/Morgan Band, Zappa’s Universe) on keyboards & harmonica and Dan Bornemark on keyboards.

The Vegetarians performed at the “Zappanale Festival” in Germany in 2011, and hope to perform there again in the future.

Last week, I already mentioned John Tabacco's "Unfulfilled Shopping Carts Syndrome".
The same package also included "Sans Lyrics, Vol.3", an instrumental album that clearly displays John's love for unusual melodies and rhythms.
Performed on a sequencer (or synth) gives it a modern contemporary sound.
I like it a lot !!

Originally released as a download-only album by Muffin Records Productions, John Tabacco re-released "Unfulfilled Shopping Carts Syndrome" on CDR on his f/x label in 2017.
Track two is John's re-arranged version of Frank Zappa's 'How Could I Be Such A Fool?'. Beautiful.

On his bandcamp page, John explains: "Most of the lyrics were inspired by my on again off again relationship with Susan DeVita. A relationship that taught me a lot about myself and made me re-examine what it is to truly love another person."
This might sound a bit corny, but the result is anything but cliché.
"Unfulfilled Shopping Carts Syndrome" presents 22 fine songs.
