JOHN MAYALL - THE SUN IS SHINING DOWN

  • john mayall: the sun is shining down
(2022, cd, --, forty below records)
I'm not really that familiar with John Mayall's music so I was quite happy that I could give his latest album a listen.
At almost 90 years old, John Mayall must have seen and done it all. Remember that he met Frank Zappa in 1968 in New York and stayed at the log cabin when he visited L.A. later that year. He wrote the song '2401' about it (released on his "Blues From Laurel Canyon" album).
Too bad they never recorded something together.

Back to the here and now, "The Sun Is Shining Down" is an impressive album. There's quite a list of guest musicians in support of John and his Bluesbrakers, but it's the man himself that impresses the most.
Foot-tapping, stompin' blues.
