SNARKY PUPPY - LIVE AT BAND ON THE WALL

• Snarky Puppy: Live At Band On The Wall
(2024, lp, USA, groundup) – RSD
      (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp)

Snarky Puppy released the "Live At Band On The Wall" LP on April 20, 2024, as a limited-edition exclusive for Record Store Day, with a wider retail vinyl release following later on November 22, 2024. The performance itself was originally recorded live in April 2014 at Manchester's Band on the Wall venue.

Earlier this year, the album was made available on Bandcamp.
The perfect opportunity to (re)visit the album (again).
Four tracks.
Brilliant.

SNARKY PUPPY'S "17" AVAILABLE ON BANDCAMP

• Snarky Puppy: 17
      (2019, 4lp, --, groundup)
      (2026, download / streaming, --, bandcamp)

Snarky Puppy’s live compilation 17 has finally landed a digital home via Bandcamp, giving fans unprecedented, high-fidelity access to the jazz-fusion collective's peak 2017 touring era.

Originally pressed exclusively as a ultra-limited, four-LP physical vinyl set back in 2019, this long-awaited digital re-release is a massive win for fans who missed the physical drop. And even for those who own the box set, it's great to have the album available in the digital format.

For readers of the United Mutations blog—who thrive on complex, boundary-pushing arrangements, mutant grooves, and exceptional musicianship—this sprawling collection is an absolute goldmine.

The album captures Michael League’s rotating mega-ensemble across various global tour stops in 2017, functioning as a definitive live retrospective of their mid-2010s creative peak.
Seventeen tracks from twenty-seventeen.
Re-energizing absolute fan favorites from 'We Like It Here', 'Culcha Vulcha', and  'Lingus' and transforming familiar arrangements into explosive, improvisational marathons, this is essential listening.

The sound is massive, punchy, and crystal clear. Every layer of the massive rhythm section, horn line, and multi-guitar attack is pristine.

For an album that was previously locked behind expensive out-of-print vinyl paywalls, having it fully dynamic, uncompressed, and ready to stream or download on the Snarky Puppy Bandcamp page is a gift. It is highly recommended for anyone who loves their jazz fried in funk, prog, and experimental world rhythms.

SNARKY PUPPY - LIVE AT GROUNDUP MUSIC FESTIVAL

• Snarky Puppy: Live At GroundUp Music Festival (Record Store Day 2026 Edition)
      (2026, lp, USA, ground up)

Released as a download / streaming album on digital music platforms in 2022, "Live At GroundUp Music Festival 2017 - 2021" also got a (red) vinyl release on the latest Record Store Day.

I'm not the biggest fan of Record Store Day. Quite the contrary actually.
I do support independent record stores and releases, I just don't like the fact that most of the RSD albums  are not easy to find.

That being said, Snarky Puppy rules !!

Here's 'Grown Folks', in a different version than what's on this album.
But !!! with special guest Esperanza Spalding.

SNARKY PUPPY & THE METROPOLE ORKEST - SOMNI

• Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest: Somni
      (2026, cd + blu-ray, --, ground up)

I watched the "Somni" blu-ray yesterday and I returned to the audio first thing this morning.
What a beautiful album.
Lyrical and melodic modern jazz, with added broad and open dynamics by the Metropole Orkest.

Love it.

Out on 2LP and on CD but also as a (recommended) CD / blu-ray package.

• Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest: Somni
      (2025, 2lp, --, groundup music)
      (2025, download / streaming, --, bandcamp)

Released through several digital music channels, and available as a 2 LP set on blue vinyl, Snarky Puppy's recent collaboration with the Metropole Orkest, is another amazing release.

Beautiful compositions, typical Snarky Puppy timbres, and lyrically emphasised by the Metropole Orchestra.

Brilliant.

"Somni" is the second collaborative album by Snarky Puppy — the GRAMMY-winning, genre-fluid collective led by bassist-composer Michael League — and Metropole Orkest, the Netherlands-based hybrid ensemble renowned for fusing jazz, classical, and popular music on a symphonic scale. Captured live over three nights (January 17–19, 2025) in Utrecht, the project reunites the two groups a decade after their first joint effort, Sylva — an orchestral suite released in 2015 that earned the GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album the following year.

"Somni" will be out as a combined CD and DVD set early next year, which I'm also looking forward to. In the meantime, I'm more than happy with the audio (and the YouTube pieces).

“Waves Upon Waves,” the first single from Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest’s album, is out now, along with one of their signature live videos, recorded with an audience seated among the musicians. Conducted by Jules Buckley and featuring an impressive 74 musicians, the piece gently swells in energy while never fully settling into wakefulness or surrendering to sleep — conjuring the strange tension of drifting between the two.
