ECLECTIC MAYBE BAND - AGAIN ALORS?

  • eclectic maybe band: again alors?
        (2022, cd, uk, discus-music)
"Again Alors?", the latest release by the Eclectic Maybe Band presents 8 tracks.
Common denominator Guy Segers assembled the material from different sessions and locations.
The Bandcamp liner notes give additional information:
"Using different groupings from within a large ensemble cast, which includes many well-known names, Guy has created an album where half the tracks are drawn from live improvisation in the studio and half are created from the ground up with players adding their composed or improvised parts one at a time. In both cases Guy assumes the role of master arranger, taking the improvisations as raw material and sculpting them into finished pieces."

The result is a very varied album. It guarantees quite a number of beautiful surprises and invites to multiple listening sessions.
Out on Martin Archer's Discus Music label and available through the Discus Music Bandcamp page.

I went for the CD (mainland Europe distribution from Berlin, so no VAT issues !!).
Next to the fact that it's nice to cherish, the CD also has detailed info for each track (participating musicians, recording session,...).
Featuring Guy Segers, Dirk Wachtelaer, Catherine Smet, Joe Higham, Michelle Delville, Martin Archer, to name just a few.
Mastered by Pierre Vervloesem!

Beautiful.
Check it out.

MACHINE MASS - INTRUSION

I've just ordered my CD copy of Machine Mass' "Intrusion" album. It got released yesterday.

Listening to the digital download in the meantime.

It sounds great. Far more jazzy than I expected.
If I had only looked at the tracklist, that would have been obvious as the album opens with Coltrane's 'Africa' and ends with Joe Zawinul's 'In A Silent Way'.

http://off-recordlabel.blogspot.com/2021/02/ocd049-machine-mass-sextet-intrusion.html

Featuring Tony BIANCO (Elton Dean, Paul Dunmall, Evan Parker), Michel DELVILLE (The Wrong Object, Vegir), Antoine GUENET (The Wrong Object, Univers Zero), Damien CAMPION (The Wrong Object), Laurent BLONDIAU (Mâäk's Spirit, Andy Emler MegaOctet, Octurn) and Manuel HERMIA (Slang, Orchestra Nazionale della Luna, Hermia-Ceccaldi-Darrifourcq Trio).

THE WRONG OBJECT'S "INTO THE HERD"

With their new release, Into The Herd (Off/MoonJune) , The Wrong Object make a return to center stage, with a studio album of original compositions showcasing a variety of fresh, powerful material. After 15 years of an existence marked by extensive touring, recording and numerous collaborations with international jazz and rock luminaries (Elton Dean, Harry Beckett, Annie Whitehead, Alex Maguire, Stanley Jason Zappa, Ed Mann, Robin Verheyen), The Wrong Object ventures further into hybrid musical territories, pushing the boundaries of progressive jazz, rock and contemporary music. Perhaps the influence of the late Frank Zappa has never been more apparent. The songs continually weave, duck, dart, and ‘stop on a dime’; while exhibiting the “controlled reckless abandon” and a similar zany, humorous approach to both harmony and melodic/thematic motifs, akin to that which characterized his work. This is a herculean effort; one that goes a long way in filling the very noticeable long-standing void left in the wake of Zappa’s departure.

THE GÖDEL CODEX - OAK

The Gödel Codex features Michel Delville, Antoine Guenet (both part of The Wrong Object), Etienne Plumer (Elephant Orchestra) and Christophe Bailleau (multimedia artist who has released various albums).
It is very clear that these musicians share an interest in the Canterbury music scene.
The result is an impressive album that combines elements of progressive, psychedelic, avant garde and improvised rock.

Below are some concert snippets from 2015.
The album is to be released on the Off Records label early next year !

Anyway, The Wrong Object did it again.
A fine mixture of Zappa-inspired jazz and rock.

Amazing !

ECLECTIC MAYBE BAND - THE BLIND NIGHT WATCHERS' MYSTERIOUS LANDSCAPES

October 2016, Joe Higham (sax, doudouk), Roland Binet (flute, sax), Guy Segers (bass), Dirk Wachterlaer (drums), Catherine Smet (keyboards) and Michel Delville (electric guitar) joined forces at 'De Studio' in Asse, BE, for an improviational session.
The session got recorded, was edited and mixed by Guy Segers and was mastered by Pierre Verloesem.
The end result of these spontaneous compositions has just been released by the Discus record label. It's available from Bandcamp, but also on CD.

Improvised music.
I like it a lot.

We’re delighted to make this music available. You’ll know Guy Segers from his days as bass guitarist with the influential and brilliant RIO group Univers Zero, but you may not know that Guy has been a tireless creator and releaser of music – often via his own Bandcamp page – up to the present day. This new release by Eclectic Maybe Band has a great vibe and atmosphere to it. A group of highly skilled and compatible players came together in the studio under Guys’s direction and made some improvisations. Although improvised the outcome is stylistically varied. Some tracks make you think of electric Miles filtered via zeuhl, while others are freer and open ended. Really flexible and great sounding bass and drums provide an ever shifting backdrop. The guitar is angular, surprising, expressive, a real stand out performance. Flute is the main horn at the forefront, blown by the wind eerily back and forth over the tracks, with the saxes digging in occasionally. Very original use of keys here too, especially when a rather icy grand piano cuts in. These initial improvisations have been carefully restructured in post production by Guy to produce a result very much in keeping with the Discus Music spirit.
