From the Zappanale newsletter:
🎶 Zappanale #35 in preparation
The next Zappanale is just around the corner.
Today we are introducing the first two bands, with more to follow in each newsletter.
Back with us at last by popular demand:
OCTAFISH
Energy-charged music and pure contradiction, danceable, intricate tracks, precisely composed and improvised;
Mathematically constructed grooves and melody snippets – planned well in advance – fired off spontaneously;
Emotionally weird soundscapes with heart-warming and goose-bump-inducing;
Hypnotic grooves & extraterrestrial melodies;
Handcrafted & electronic.
And yet: it sounds like jazz.
The music magazine Jazzpodium speaks of a ‘daring soundscape’ and rates the music as ‘experimental extra class’
INDUSTRIAL FAKE JAZZ is the name the band itself has given to its sound: rock cascades à la King Crimson, the musical humour of Frank Zappa, fake jazz sounds reminiscent of the New York experimental scene. It's a mixture that has already won international acclaim, leading to collaborations with former Zappa guitarist Mike Keneally.
