After having released "Synthia" and "Synthia Vol.II" in December, Warren Cuccurullo is already back with "Return Of The Rose Vortex", a fine album that features Azar Lawrence (!!) on the saxophone.
Plus Tommy Mars !!

For a glimpse of Azar's career, take a look at:

Warren on synth soundscapes with Tommy Mars and Azar adding beautiful lines and phrases.
This is great.

WARREN CUCCURULLO - 4U

Music by Warren Cuccurullo
From the album 'Missing Person'

Film directed by Judith Jerome
Produced by Warren Cuccurullo, Heide Fliegner, Jean Renard and LightTouchDreams Studios

Everyone in this video has a name. Everyone in this video has a story. We are grateful that they shared their lives with us.

Since we began this project, the crisis has only gotten worse and not just here in the City of Angels, but everywhere. The solutions are complex and require more than just relocation. We are failing our veterans and those most vulnerable, while the people who can help (mostly volunteers) are all too often ignored or cast aside in favor of political bumper sticker solutions and grandiose plans that are ill conceived, expensive and will fail.

We must do better.

WARREN CUCCURULLO

While touring South Africa back in April 1993, Duran Duran agreed to let a radio station record their set at Momentum Arena in Pretoria. This album serves up the audio from that broadcast - a riotous, typically grandiose rush through some of their greatest hits and best-loved moments.

'Radio show' album.

LP
Limited to 1500 copies.

Bored with Prozac and the Internet? is an experimental / electronic-based album originally released in 2013 by TV Mania. The album was recorded from 1995 to 1996 by TV Mania members Nick Rhodes and Warren Cuccurullo as a side project of their full-time band, Duran Duran. The recordings remained unreleased for some 17 years after having been presumed lost. The chance discovery of the album master tapes by Rhodes led to the set's 2013 release.

TV MANIA - BORED WITH PROZAC AND THE INTERNET?

  • tv mania: bored with prozac and the internet?
(2022, cd, germany, bmg / tape modern)
TV Mania featured Warren Cuccurullo (who was in Zappa's band and later in Duran Duran) and Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran).

The duo released "Bored With Prozac..." in 2013, both as a digital download and on as a 2 LP set.
Ignoring the unofficial CD and CDR releases that were produced, the album has been released on CD for the first time earlier this year.

Next to the "Bored With Prozac..." album, Tape Modern did release a 7-track remix EP CD in 2013. Different mixes / versions of three tracks that had been previously released on "Bored With Prozac...".

This album and the remix EP are completely different from Warren's solo stuff.
Check it out before you run to the shop...

Anyway, "Bored with..." is being made available on CD by BMG.
Excellent news.

ROB CUCCURULLO - BY WAY OF CANARSIE

  • by way of canarsie
    by rob cuccurullo
        (2019, book, usa, private release)

Rob is Warren Cuccurullo's brother.
Warren was part of Frank Zappa's band, co-founded Missing Persons and eventually even played guitar in Duran Duran.
As Rob's book is about living in Brooklyn with the family, parts of this book are about Warren and also about Frank Zappa's visits to the Cuccurullo's.
Too bad Rob didn't include the pictures of Zappa's visit that he showed on facebook.
Still, nice reading, spectacular story and glad it turned out fine with Rob (getting addicted, serving in the army, being arrested,...).

I got my copy from Amazon.

ROB CUCCURULLO

Warren Cuccurullo's brother, Robert, wrote a book that includes a part where Frank Zappa visited the house.

https://www.bywayofcanarsie.com/
(Check out the "More" section for some nice pictures)

Available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kindle, and Kobo.

While growing up in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, New York during the ‘70s and ‘80s, Robert and his siblings had to endure their father’s violent temper. Robert’s brother Warren found solace in music, first joining Frank Zappa’s band, then co-founding the group Missing Persons, and eventually becoming the lead guitarist for Duran Duran. Following an encounter with a violent sociopath and witnessing a mob murder, Robert became a heavy drug user by the age of sixteen. By his twenties, with his cocaine use spiraling out of control, he got involved with associates of the Lucchese Crime Family and found himself the target of a corrupt police detective. Desperately seeking to escape the neighborhood, Robert volunteered to serve in Operation Desert Storm, where he witnessed death and destruction on an unimaginable scale. Suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress, his drug woes continued as he experienced one life-changing event after another. Following a felony arrest and facing eight years in prison, Robert was forced to confront his demons.

ZAPPANALE #29 FLASHBACKS - - - THE EXPO

Thurssay afternoon had kicked off with a short visit to the expo, housed next to the Arf Office, in the center of Bad Doberan.
This year's expo focussed on The Zappa Power Trio (Warren Cuccurullo, Terry Bozzio, Patrick O'Hearn), a painting exhibit (by artist Olaf Rösler), and a picture exhibit (by photographer Bill Gubbins).

The above picture shows the cover of the exhibition guide, taken from a painting by Olaf Rösler.

The Zappa Power Trio part of the expo showed lots of records. Not just the albums that they made with Frank Zappa, but also lots (LOTS !!) of other albums that Warren, Terry and/or Patrick appeared on. And not just some Missing Persons stuff. Very impressive. Plus some pictures, lists of their discographies, The DW Black Page Zappa Snare Drum, an 18+ section that showed Warren on video, and more.

The second part of the exhibit showed various paintings by Olaf Rösler. I liked the Superman/Freak Out one (pictured on the cover of the exhibition guide), but his other works didn't impress me that much.

Part three of the expo, however, was something I hadn't expected.
Photographer Bill Gubbins had been present during Frank Zappa's Hot Rats sessions. The expo gave a sneak preview of Bill's exclusive photos that will be part of a planned book celebrating the 50th anniversary of "Hot Rats".
Reprints of some of the pictures were made available in different formats but in a very limited run.
My favorite one was taken at the August 10, 1969 concert at Warrensville Heights, showing Don, Jimmy, Art, Roy, Motorhead, Bunk, Ian, Buzz and FZ. Do I need to tell you that I bought a copy?

WARREN CUCCURULLO

The Warren Cuccurullo - Patrick O'Hearn - Terry Bozzio gig at Zappanale was one to remember.
Musical highlights combined with missed cues, gear problems and musicians that got mad at each other...
