The music traces its origins to the landmark Houston fireworks spectacular featured in the television series Detonators, where Riddle served as composer for the series. At the time, the Houston event was widely recognized as one of the largest fireworks productions in America, combining massive pyrotechnic displays with live-event drama on an enormous scale.
Written to accompany both the spectacle and the emotional tension behind the production itself, the music moved fluidly between progressive rock, orchestral passages, cinematic Americana, and rhythmically driven soundtrack composition.
Quite theatrical and a bit too much patriotism for my taste, especially if you compare the YouTube movie with the current situation in the USA...

I hear you. For me, this piece isn’t meant as blind patriotism or a comment that everything is fine in America right now.
ReplyDeleteIt’s more about the America many of us have held in our hearts — hopeful, complicated, flawed, beautiful, tragic, and still somehow worth believing in.
I don’t really see the piece as being about the America of the current news cycle.
ReplyDeleteIt’s more about the American idea as many of us have felt it at different points in our lives — celebration, hope, contradiction, loss, beauty, and the dream of something better.
So yes, there’s patriotism in it, but hopefully not the shallow kind. More like wrestling with a country you still want to believe can be better.
