The Satanic Samba Trio will be doing a concert at the AB in Brusssels on March 20, 2025.
https://www.abconcerts.be/nl/agenda/satanique-samba-trio/a10Qw000000l3goIAA
Satanique Samba Trio is an instrumental avant-garde quintet - not a trio, that is - formed in 2003 with the sole aim of desecrating the Brazilian musical heritage. So don't expect samba, forró, bossa nova or lambada as you know it. This quintet (sometimes sextet) from Brasília adds virulence, dissonance and provocation to traditional rhythms to turn them into something new and exciting. Their efforts to deconstruct the most persistent clichés of Brazilian music have so far yielded 14 records, the latest of which was ‘Só Bad’ (2023).

Fernweh, a German word for wanderlust that means specifically to be homesick for a place you've never been, is the perfect name for Marbin's 12th album, which focuses exclusively on jazz standards. Because these songs were written so long ago, and their origins span several continents, each and every song connects you to a different place and time—most of which are not places or time periods any of us have actually experienced.
I'm glad I found a copy !!
Also out on LP, and on Bandcamp :
I just heard that Mike Miller passed away.

Anyway, even without the attractive imagery, this is one funky album.
If this doesn't get you in a good mood, I don't know what will.

Lowell George was the guitar virtuoso, vocalist, and songwriter for Little Feat. In this collection of 25 songs, artists such as Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, and Dave Alvin interpret and perform his diverse catalog. George, born in Hollywood, California, was a member of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Inventions before leaving that band and forming Little Feat with Bill Payne. Lowell’s tenure in the band was for 7 years until his death, and in that time, they released eight albums. While George died in 1979, his legacy lives on through this album. In this new double LP, Sweet Relief, the organization that provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians and music industry workers who are struggling to make ends meet, has come up with a gem.

In the meantime, the June 1 Dweezil Zappa / Metropole Orkest concert seems to be sold out !
The Médiathèque de Paris invites you to the public recording of David Christoffel's podcast Metaclassique.
In this edition, composer Jonathan Pontier and conductor Daniel Kawka will discuss Zappa and Boulez.
The collaboration between Frank Zappa and Pierre Boulez was not the clash of cultures it seemed to suggest. But what motivated it? What fantasies did it awaken? For which of the two musicians was it so decisive?
David Christoffel invites composer Jonathan Pontier and conductor Daniel Kawka to find the answers, and to continue to raise questions about the Zappa/Boulez duo.

I enjoy how you describe yourself as willing to listen to anything that shows a little imagination. I think that’s wonderful criteria to have when listening to any music.
Yes, well, I would say, for example, I have been a fan of Frank Zappa for a long time, almost 40 years. I think I have heard almost everything he’s ever done – I don’t listen to it as much anymore, but still I am very fond of his music.

Brazilian singer, guitarist and composer Walter Franco released his "Ou Não" album in 1973.
The final track on the album, 'Cabeça', sounds a lot like Frank Zappa's 'Help, I'm A Rock'.

About a year ago, the Alain Pire Experience released "The Journey", the trio's sixth album !
The core band features
and displays a fascination and admiration for 1970's psychedelic rock music.
I've received a digital download copy of the album, and I'm enjoying it a lot.
Bandcamp download, but also out on CD.
Check it out !

The Buster Kingston package arrived last week.
One CD EP and on 12" EP.
Both look great and sound even better.
Both carry a great ska version of Frank Zappa's 'Take Your Clothes Off'.
Another fine addition to The Others Of Invention.
"Love Your Mind" is a fine album. The instrumentation says bluegrass, but the songs would suit any pop band.
And 'Peaches En Regalia" sounds great.
Steven Wilson's new album, "The Overview", will be out on March 14.
It will present two tracks: 'Objects Outlive Us' and 'The Overview' and is announced as .inspired by the ‘overview effect,’ a profound emotional and cognitive change that astronauts experience when seeing the Earth from space.

A tour will follow later tin 2025.

Mons, Belgium-based duo La Jungle teamed up with KermesZ à l'Est for their recent "Junkz II" release.

A video for the YES classic And You And I, taken from the dvd:
In preparation of the upcoming tour, Dweezil Zappa has uploaded several updates to YouTube.
Here's the latest one.
The album incudes Skeletonized performing Jackie & The Starlites' 'Valarie', a song that we know from "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" as it got recorded by Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention.
When asked if the Skeletonized version was inspired by The Mothers, Matt (from Skeletonized) answered: We actually found out that Zappa covered this song while we were working on our version for the compilation.
We stumbled upon this song after being invited to take part in the comp, with the stipulation being a Doo-Wop song from '55-'65 if I recall correctly.
"Valerie" was a song that we thought we could have some fun with, and we definitely did.
A good cause & some fine music, so I ordered the CD.
Received it a little while ago and it's fun.

And how...

Nice !
