OSTRICH VON NIPPLE TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM

June 2011, Ostrich Von Nipple released "Contemplates The Cosmos" on WM Recordings.
This was an excellent album. It had lots of Residents clues, sounds and influences, and it featured contributions by Nolan Cook.

"Ostrich Von Nipple Contemplates The Cosmos" was one of the finest discoveries that I made in 2011.

The new Ostrich Von Nipple album will be out in August and it will be released by Psychofon Records.
Now how's that for some good news.

Here's a little teaser.

PHAROAH SANDERS & SUN RA

The ESP label is releasing a new album of music by Pharoah Sanders: "In The Beginning 1963 - 1964".
Half of this 4CD-set has Pharoah Sanders performing with Sun Ra and his Arkestra.
Worth checking out.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - THE INTERNATIONAL WAITAWHILE SUN RA CONVENTIONS

Here's another box set that I received last week: "The International Waitawhle Sun Ra Conventions", a 5 CD-box (with a 40-page booklet).
This is a true gem.
Compiled from various editions of the Waitawhile Sun Ra Convention, you get beautiful poems and great music.
The booklet includes material from the Waitawhile archives, plus an original drawing by Klaus Detlef Thiel !
It all comes in a fine package, and it's produced in a very limited quantity (of 75 copies).

A must-have for any Sun Ra fan.

DON PRESTON UPDATE

Don Preston's "Filters, Oscillators & Envelopes" album has been re-issued on orange vinyl.
A picture of the vinyl has been added to the Archives.

WINDS OF CHANGE - ILLUSIONS

Adding data to The Others Of Invention (musicians playing the music of Frank Zappa), here's Winds Of Change.
The band recorded the Zappa / Duke 'Uncle Remus' on their "Illusions" album.
From 1979.

PRIMUS - FRIZZLE FRY

• primus: frizzle fry
(2002, cd, usa, prawn song records)

When I mentioned that Primus recorded 'Hello Skinny / Constantinople' on their 'Wynona's Big Brown Beaver' EP in 2005 a little while ago, I was incomplete.
They had of course already released their version of this Residents classic on their 2002 album "Frizzle Fry".
Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY

I have always been a Prince-fan.
I've never seen him in concert, but I do enjoy his albums a lot.
Prince does have quite a discography and when I tried to add the album titles to the United Mutations Archives, I noticed that it was much bigger then I thought.

It's probably incomplete, but it's a start.
& while listening, I also added album data for the first batch of albums.

WIM VANDEKEYBUS - DANCE & SHORT FICTION FILMS

• wim vandekeybus: dance & short fiction films
      (2006, 3dvd-box, bel, ultima vez)

Last week, I received two beautiful boxes. The first one, was "Dance & Short Fiction Films", a collection / overview of the works of choreographer and filmmaker Wim Vandekeybus.
I love Vandekeybus' strange imaginary world. It's all about surpises and unexpected combinations, in his dances, stories, and also in the music.
This 3 DVD-box includes 12 of Wim Vandekeybus' films, plus some extras. Music by David Byrne, Peter Vermeersch, Thierry De Mey, Marc Ribot, and others.

Highly recommended.
I thought that this box was out-of-print, but it got repressed in 2010 and it's still available through the Ultima Vez website.
