In 2002, the Blues Goblins released a superb album. It's some sort of blues covers album, but with a very raw and sometimes even psychedelic twist.
"Blues Goblins", the album, collects early 20th century blues songs by Skip James, Muddy Waters, Leadbelly, Charlier Patton, Howlin' Wolf, ... and gives them a contemporary touch.

Really impressive.

Cherry on the pie is Stanley Jason Zappa's guest appearance. SJZ blows his horn on two of the tracks. My favorite track is 'Rollin & Tumblin'. 8 minutes of genius madness: one of the stereo channels runs a bit behind; you get a superb guitar solo on top; and a breathtaking multi-layered saxophone improvisation right behind it.
THIS IS SUPERB!!

GROUPIES, THE BOOK

In 1970, Bantam Books (NY publisher) released "Groupies and Other Girls", a story about a (at that time) 'new' phenomen: groupies. Written by two Rolling Stone journalists.

The above picture is the cover of the Dutch edition of this book, edited by Het Spectrum in 1972. The book has a Frank Zappa quote on the cover, and includes a chapter on the GTO's.

MCN (muziek centrum nederland) will be hosting a talkshow with guests Harry Sacksioni, Corrie van Binsbergen and Joep Pelt.

Not your ordinary concert, but a a talkshow, though all of them will be performing a bit as well.

Album number seven is called "Sift", and it's another gem.

Angular rhythms, challenging compositions (both for the musicians and the listener), and unpredictable improvisations.
This is why I like music !!

The Bonedaddys is an american 'party' band. It's all about funky rhythms, fun and dancing...

I only recently learned that the band recorded Captain Beefheart's 'Crazy Little Thing' on their 1991 (!) album. It does sound a too bit polished for my ears, but the slide guitar makes it stand out.
Interesting.
