JACK DUPON - DEMON HARDI

While I'm at it, I added the data for the third album by Jack Dupon, "Démon Hardi", to the United Mutations Archives.

Here's the band at Zappanale in 2012 :

JACK DUPON - L'ECHELLE DU DESIR

French band Jack Dupon has been around since 2004. They released their first album in 2006 (privately released) and their second album on Gazul Records in 2008.
First time that I heard about them, was when I read the line-up for the 2012 edition of the Zappanale festival. They had performed at the RIO Festival in 2011.

Jack Dupon is Arnaud M'Doihoma (bass, vocals), Thomas Larsen (drums, vocals), Gregory Pozzoli (guitar, vocals) and Philippe Prebet (guitar, vocals).

Guitar oriented avant prog.
"L'échelle du Désir" was their debut album. It opened with a 30-minute 'La Trilogie Des Mouces...'.

Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

Here's the band at the RIO festival in 2011 :

JACK DUPON - JESUS L'AVENTURIER

For those of you who are unfamiliar with French avant prog band Jack Dupon, "Jésus L'aventurier", their fifth release, would be a great place to start.
This is progressive rock, but with quite a dose of avant-garde weirdness mixed in.

Although mostly instrumental, "Jésus L'avonturier" is all about adventurous people: Mata Hari, Ulysses,... (all explained in the poster that comes with the album).
And the music is great.

Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

THE LAMA HOME BAND - THE END OF THE INTELLECT

The Lama Home Band is the brainchild of D.Down and K.Kang. Their latest release "The End Of The Intellect" presents reworked versions of songs that had been previously released on tape and on CDR plus one previously unreleased composition that dates back as far as 1983!

It's always a pleasure to get a new dose of The Lama Home Band.
Especially on vinyl !

"The End Of The Intellect" includes 15 experimental, bizarre and avant-garde tracks.
Great fun in a superb package (love those fake nails !!).
Food for fans of The Residents and Klimperei.
It can happen here !

ELLIOTT SHARP - HAPTIKON

  • elliott sharp: haptikon
(2013, cd, italy, long song records)
American multi-instrumentalist and composer Elliott Sharp has been a central figure in the New York avant-garde and experimental music scene since the late seventies.

He has made numerous albums and his compositions have been performed by the HR-Sinfonieorchester, The Ensemble Modern and The Kronos Quartet, to name a few.

His latest release, "Haptikon", is out on the italian Long Song Records label. The electric guitar gets the significant role on "Haptikon". Accompanied by computer generated soundscapes, Elliott Sharp explores jazz, blues, rock and indian music, with a focus on the melodical and lyrical aspects.

Very impressive.

Recommended listening.

DOCTOR NERVE - DID SPRINTING DIE?

Doctor Nerve's third album, "Did Sprinting Die?" got released on the Cuneiform label in 1990.
Most of the tracks were recorded live at 'The Knitting Factory' in New York City in 1989, but the album also presents a number of computer generated pieces. Nice. Very nice.
The computer generated pieces go together very well with the live tracks.
"Did Sprinting Die?" offers eleven short but very powerful pieces.
If you're into experimental / avant-garde / zappa, you should definitely check this out.
It's hard to believe that this album got recorded almost fifteen years ago. This is as contemporary as it gets.

Data and picture have been added to the United Mutations Archives.

A DOCTOR NERVE UPDATE

Doctor Nerve finished their European Tour yesterday.

  • 21.5. Cairo, Jugendkulturhaus Würzburg, Germany
  • 22.5. Participating in "La noblesse à pris le visage du printemps"
  • 23.5. Le Triton, Paris, France
  • 24.5. Eisenwerkschänke Schwelm, Germany
  • 25.5. Cultuurhuis Heerlen, Holland
  • 26.5. Rider's Cafe, Lübeck, Germany
  • 27.5. Fundbureau Hamburg, Germany
  • 28.5. Jazz House, Copenhagen, Denmark
  • 29.5. Pumpe, Rostock, Germany
  • 30.5. Club Hanseat, Salzwedel, Germany
  • 31.5. Mózg, Bydgoszcz, Poland
I was one of the happy few to attend the Heerlen gig. Friends in the audience and a favourite band on the stage. It was a perfect evening.

2013/05/25 Cultuurhuis Heerlen, Holland

* line-up
Leo Ciesa - drums, skins, Egil's bones * Nick Didkovsky - guitars, retro echoplex nostalgia * Yves Duboin - soprano sax, hearing threshold provocation * Rob Henke - trumpet, screaming ears *
Ben Herrington - extreme trombone * Jesse Krakow - electric bass, trout masks * Michael Lytle - contra/bass clarinet, chilling predawn calm * Kathleen Supové - massive keyboards, massive sampling, massive vocal rants
the audience : evelien, bas, eric, danny, inge, peter, chantal, tim, debby, daggie, petter and three germans

* setlist
set one : intro, Splinter, If You Were Me Right Now I'd Be Dead, Armed Observation, rhythms henke, Sister Cancer Brother Dollar, Nothing You Can Do Hurt Me, Beta 14 OK, Meta 01, Meta 04, She Closes Her Sister With Heavy Bones, Swallow The Neck Of The Guest Who Hisses When You Pass, lytle solo, Trash
set two : intro, Uses Probe Form, I Am Not Dumb Now (with conducted middle section), Spy Boy (with lyle opera middle section), yves solo, Riff 05, Preaching To The Converted
encore
Armed Observation (a capella)

Besides listening to a breath-taking performance, the thing to remember was the audience participation during 'Meta 01'. We got treated to five different versions of 'Meta 01': the regular version, the one with half the band, an a capella version, an a capella version together with half of the audience, an a capella version by  half of the audience. Incredible.
The fact that there were only 14 people in the audience and that these were my friends turned the event into a very intemate gig. It was like having the band playing in your living room.
In short: this was fantastic. Musicwise as well as emotionally.
Thank you Daggie. Thank you Doctor Nerve. And thank you my friends.

Thanks to Bas for the video footage.

As it happens, an audience audio recording of the concert turned up at DimeADozen.
