- Francesco Zappa / Atalanta Fugiens, cond. Vanni Moretto: Six Symphonies
(2012, cd, --, sony music / deutsche harmonia mundi)
18th century Italian cellist & composer Francesco Zappa was active between 1763 and 1788. He wrote music for the Italian court, remaining in some obscurity until the archives of his work were explored by Frank Zappa.
The “Six Symphonies” album had Francesco Zappa’s compositions performed by the Orchestra Atalanta Fugiens, directed by Vanni Moretto.
The liner notes mention Frank Zappa was the initiator of research on and circulation of the Milanese composer’s works.
Vanni Moretto added one of my favourite FZ quotes:
“Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.”
Frank Zappa (1940-1993)
