The 15th of August is a public holiday in Belgium (Ascension Day / Mothers' Day).
And I have to admit that it was a very special day for me as well as I went to the Jazz Middelheim festival to see Aka Moon.
True, there were other bands as well, but we went for Aka Moon.
For the occasion, the trio had invited João Barradas, Portugese accordionist and composer to join the ranks.
Open air, Park Den Brandt, Antwerp, Belgium.
Beautiful location. The perfect spot for some exiting music.
And the Aka Moon concert was just amazing.
Polyrhythmic, polyphonic and interspersed with improvisations.
Loved it.
What a way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Aka Moon...
If you get the opportunity, go see these guys live. Or check out the "Constellations" 20 CD box set that they released last year.
