MUSIC ACROSS TALKED TO BILLY COBHAM

The next edition (On Monday November 6) of the Music Across radio show by Gernot Friedbacher focusses on Billy Cobham and his Zappanale concert.

Here's what Gernot adds:

This second programme about Zappanale 2023 features the world-famous, now 79-year-old jazz fusion drummer Billy Cobham. Billy Cobham is one of the most influential drummers and was inducted into the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame in 2013. He has played with Miles Davis, was a founding member of John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the list of countless other world-famous musicians with whom he has played reads like a Who's Who of 20th century music history. In addition, Billy Cobham has also influenced and impressed numerous musicians from other genres, such as Prince, who covered "Stratus".

I had the privilege and great pleasure of meeting Billy Cobham in person at the Zappanale on 15 July 2023 and talking to him for "Music Across". Billy Cobham talked about his musical beginnings and his childhood in Panama, about recording in the studio then and now, about the social significance of music in the USA compared to Europe, about a UNICEF music project for street children in Brazil, and how he first came across Frank Zappa and what he thinks of Frank Zappa's music. And, of course, you will also hear music by Billy Cobham from all his creative periods from the 1970s to the present day.
