NAZARETH - HAIR OF THE DOG

Scottish band Nazareth released "Hair Of The Dog" in 1975. It was their sixth release and got recorded in only nine days. The record is still considered a classic 70s heavy rock album.

When the initial album came out, it was banned from the airwaves because it included the phrase "son of a bitch". This was, of course, the best promo the band could have wanted. The album got played on college stations, got the buzz going, and became an instant hit.

35 years after its original release, the album has been beautifully re-released by Salvo Records. It is presented in a nice cardboard cover, comes with a very informative 20-page booklet, and (!!) includes a nice set of bonus tracks.

The first lot of bonus tracks are the two singles, including 'Love Hurts', a track that got included in the U.S. LP release in the seventies. Originally recorded by the Everly Brothers in the 1960s, Nazareth updated the song to the 1970s standards. It has been a part of music history ever since.

The second batch of bonus tracks is even more interesting: it's the tracks that Nazareth recorded at the Paris Theatre for the BBC. The recordings got broadcast on November 27, 1975, and include the band's version of Frank Zappa's 'Road Ladies'.
It's a superb version. Nazareth brings a raw and bluesy version that Zappa must have appreciated. It fits perfectly on the album.

Impressive.

Out on Salvo Records.
