During the early eighties, jazz pianist Chick Corea was commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of the Lincoln Center to write Septet.
The result can be heard on the album by the same name, released on the ECM label in 1985 !

The septet, in six movements, was performed by Chick Corea on the piano, plus Peter Gordon (horn), Steve Kujala (flute), Ida Kavafian (violin), Theodore Arm (violin), Steven Tenenbom (viola), and Fred Sherry (cello).
