- rudy schwartz project: is that a quadrijawed sea urchin...
(2023, cd, dc-jam records / kunaki)
There are few things that are so unpredictable as a new record by the Rudy Schwartz Project.
Except for the fact that the music will be great.

"Is That A Quadrijawid Sea Urchin Or Are You Just Glad To See Me?" arrived in my mail box a bit over a week ago.
I received it after sliding some money to Belgium customs which always feels a bit like a mafiosi thing: they kidnapped something that you want and you have to pay them to release it. They don't even know or care what it is. They'll charge you 20% for tax and a ridiculous additional amount of 17 euros as handling costs. Mafiosi, that's what they are.

Anyway, enough about Belgian customs as the new Rudy Schwartz release propelled my mood back to the positive side as soon as I started listening to it.
The album opens with '90 Gallon Drum Of Testicle Meat' (yes, no typos here), jumping right into 'The Wally And Charlie Variations', an amazing zappa-esque instrumental piece. Wow !!
Next up is 'Vladimir', a doo-wop song about the current state of our world, and the album continuous with 'Orville The Sweet Potato', a horrifying story about... a sweet potato.
And it goes on like this. 15 tracks. 15 adventurous and beautiful surprises.
