American drummer and composer Sean Noonan’s “Zappanation rock opera premiered at the Sant’anna Arresi Jazz Festival in Italy on the 2nd of September in 2016.
The ”Zappanation” album got recorded in a London studio two days later, but it was only released on CD in 2022.
The German premiere of “Zappanation” took place on May 12, 2018, at the Alte Kaserne, in Landshut. A link to the video recording of this concert got shared in the album’s liner notes.
Sean Noonan added:
Zappanation is a surreal rock opera in the provocative and inventive spirit of Frank Zappa and Edgard Varese. It began in 2016 at the Sant'Anna Aressi Jazz Festival in Sardinia. The story refracts Mozart's brothel-set opera "The Abduction from the Seraglio" through the bawdy humor and musical inventiveness of Zappa and the percussive abstractions of Varese.
