- sound liberation: open up your ears and get some
(2008, cd, usa, col legno wwe 1cd 20902)
Sound Liberation is the brainchild of Gene Pritsker. The ensemble was formed in 1996 and has performed all over the world.
"Open Up Your Ears And Get Some" combines various musical styles. The first track, for instance, mixes a Chopin piece (performed on violin) with a hip-hop beat, adds a sitar and has people rapping over it. Some of the other pieces have classic vocals, or a jazz guitar solo, or a string quartet.
As Gene Pritsker put it: "In this album we combine our love for classical music, jazz and music of various cultures with our love for hip-hop by incorporating our own unique lyrical style."
To my ears, this is a very fine experiment. Intriguing to say the least.
