- Frank Zappa: Halloween 78 - Highlights: Live At The Palladium, New York
(2025, cd, --, universal music / zappa records zr20049-2)
Frank Zappa's recent "Halloween 78" album has been made available as a (mask including) box set, a 2 LP set (two different coloured vinyl versions), and as a single (highlights) CD.
Slightly delayed, the 'highlights' CD arrived last week.
Personally, I would have added all the pieces that L. Shankar participated on, but that's just me.
I also never really understood FZ's (or the American people in general) attraction to Halloween. If, one day, someone will write a paper on Frank Zappa and his affection for Halloween, taken from a sociological, anthropological and even commercial perspective, I would be very interested.
That being said, I'm glad that Frank liked Halloween. It sure resulted in some great concerts.
"Halloween 78 - Highlights", a fine little album but most fans will go for the expanded box set or digital download version.

FZ was obsessed with horror movies and especially the most cheaply realised horror movies
ReplyDeleteThere are several shows on "Zappateers" where he talks about that obsession
