A couple of days ago, Rick Laban released a collection of tracks by Frank Zappa & The Mothers on his bandcamp page.
He took the "Fillmore East" track list and replaced each song by another live version.
Mothers-NOT Live at the Fillmore '71 is a collection of the SAME track list of the original seminal Fillmore album, in the same order, by the same core band, except that all the songs are different takes from different shows in different places. This recording is intended to give the listener the sense that they are hearing the same show, in the same time period, but perhaps at a different tour stop.
I like the idea.
I did not like the fact that this being sold, that I had to pay to download this.
Will this be the new trend?
Releasing old Zappa / Mothers material in a semi-official way?
