- Aynsley Dunbar: Blue Whale
(2023, lp, Europe, byg)
Aynsley Dunbar first met Frank Zappa as a member of the Jeff Beck Group and solidified that meeting by jamming with FZ at the Belgian Amougies Festival in the fall of 1969.
Early 1970, Aynsley joined Zappa’s Mothers Of Invention. He recorded and toured with Zappa from 1970 until the end of 1971.
After having recorded four albums with his Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation Band, Aynsley started recording his “Blue Whale” project in 1970. The album included the Zappa-written ‘Willie The Pimp’, featuring Alex Dmochowski on bass. It got released in 1971 on the BYG label.
Re-released in 1978 on Charly Records and in 2021 on Ethelion.
Re-issued on CD for the first time in 1994.
Later in his career, Aynsley would record another FZ piece, ‘Chunga’s Revenge’. He released it on his “Mutiniy” album in 2008.
And now there's this 180 g vinyl re-issue on the BYG record label.
Released earlier this year.
The label’s logo is present on the top right corner of the album cover. The left side has a hype sticker “Official BYG Album – Newly Remastered – 180-gram Vinyl – Limited Edition”.
