NEW ALBUM BY TIM MORSE

From Glass Onyon PR

Tim Morse began his instrument instruction at a young age and started composing immediately upon picking up the guitar. He later moved onto the piano and studied as a music composition major, writing extended pieces such as a string quartet and two piano sonatas. During this time Tim performed with various rock and fusion bands and played on many recording sessions. Tim's first album of original music was entitled “Transformation” and was released in 2005. The album was well received by the Progressive Rock community and recognized as an original voice, in the tradition of Yes and Genesis, yet recorded and performed with a modern edge.

His second album “Faithscience” was released in 2012 and musically it picked up where “Transformation” left off, continuing to explore the best of Progressive Rock. In addition to this release Tim became a member of the Jerry Jennings band and formed The Mangoes with Bret Bingham. The Mangoes released their debut album in 2014 and it was embraced for its pop sensibility and quirky humor.

Tim Morse is also a published author and his book “Yesstories” has sold over 20,000 copies worldwide. His book “Classic Rock Stories” was published by the St. Martin's Press and was featured on the Howard Stern show. He has also written for music magazines over the years including Mix, Guitar World, Keyboard and Bass Player.

“Tim Morse III” will be released on CD and digital download on October 22, 2018 by Cymbalick Music. There will be a limited edition vinyl LP release of the album in January 2019. Plans for live performances in support of the new album release are in the works.

In closing Tim has this message for listeners: “I'm always grateful when anyone takes the time to listen to my music, whether they loved it or were critical of it. In this modern age of endless distractions it is a lovely thing when someone will truly listen to music.”

41POINT9

from Glass Onyon PR

Prog Ensemble 41POINT9 Pays Tribute To The Marine Corps With New Video “The Marine”

Your favorite Nerds of Norcal, progressive rock band 41POINT9 have released their newest video for the soon to be released album “Mr. Astute Trousers.” Following closely on the heels of the success of their first two videos this time out the band adopts a heavier sound and more serious topic. The video is for a song called “The Marine” and was based on the true story of a U.S. Marine Corps soldier killed in Afghanistan. When his body was returned to his wife (who was pregnant with their first child) she requested to “sleep one last time by her husband's side” in the funeral home. At her request, the Marine Honor Guard fixed her a makeshift bed beside the coffin and as the last Marine was leaving the chapel, he looked back to see her quietly crying. He turned around and went back to her and asked her if she would like him to stay for a while. She said she would like that. The Marine stepped back up on the dais beside the coffin and stood at attention. When the young mother woke the next morning, that Marine was still there….still standing at attention. Still watching over her, her unborn child and her deceased loved one.

This is a true story that won a Pulitzer Prize for best photo essay in a Colorado Newspaper.

41POINT9 wishes to pay tribute to the honor and traditions of the Marine Corps and to the sacrifice embodied by all who serve. It is for this reason all proceeds from this video will be donated to The Semper Fi Fund, an A+ rated charity that provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.

CAMEMBERT - NEGATIVE TOE

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned the first album by experimental, prog rock ensemble Camembert: "Snörgl Attahk", from 2011.
The reason was obvious. Camembert recently released their second album, "Negative Toe" and it's equally impressive.

Melodic percussion (xylophone, vibraphone, marimba), harp, trumpet, drums,...
Not your everyday line-up, but it does sound great.
6 tracks, and 4 of these last 10 minutes or longer.

Out on the Italian Altrock record label.

YUKA & CHRONOSHIP

from Glass Onyon PR :

Japanese Prog Ensemble Yuka & Chronoship Announce the Release of Their New Album SHIP

Yuka & Chronoship was formed in 2009 by Yuka Funakoshi (a rare female prog rock artist in the world) and three experienced session musicians (Shun Taguchi, Takashi Miyazawa, and Ikko Tanaka).

The band's previous album, received critical acclaim worldwide and was helped establish the band as an intriguing discovery for fans of the progressive rock genre.

The first seven songs of the band's new album SHIP are a suite based on the Greek mythology “ARGO”. The opening song “Tears of the Figurehead” is sung by special guest singer Sonja Kristina of Curved Air.

Band member Shun Taguchi said: The last song “Did You Find A Star?” was originally planned to sung by John Wetton, but he passed away from cancer and at first we planned not to include it on the album. However, although unfortunately our dream didn't come true, we decided to still record the song for the album as a tribute to him.

The album will be released on 11th May via Cherry Red Records worldwide excluding Japan where the album is available via King Records.

BUBBLEMATH - EDIT PEPTIDE

  • bubblemath: edit peptide
        (2017, cd, usa, cuneiform records)
Minnesota quintet Bubblemath is Kai Esbensen (vocals, keyboards), James Flagg (vocals, drums), Jon Smith (vocals, guitar) and Blake Albinson (guitar, keyboard). "Edit Peptide" is their second album. It follows "Such Fine Particles Of The Universe" that got released in 2002.

Rhythmically challenging, melodically impressive and vocally top notch, "Edit Peptide" is sure to make some eyebrows move. The music is could be considered experimentel progressive, yet it sounds so poppy.
Right up my alley.
I love it.

Out on Cuneiform Records.

PAZOP

Pazop was a Belgian progressive rock band that existed from 1971 to 1974.
The band recorded two album, but didn't manage to get them released by a record company.

Their first album, "Psychillis Of A Lunatic Genius", finally got a release on the Musea label in 1996.
More recently the French Replica Records label released both albums.

Here's a teaser (or two)

JACK DUPON - DEMON HARDI

While I'm at it, I added the data for the third album by Jack Dupon, "Démon Hardi", to the United Mutations Archives.

Here's the band at Zappanale in 2012 :

JACK DUPON - L'ECHELLE DU DESIR

French band Jack Dupon has been around since 2004. They released their first album in 2006 (privately released) and their second album on Gazul Records in 2008.
First time that I heard about them, was when I read the line-up for the 2012 edition of the Zappanale festival. They had performed at the RIO Festival in 2011.

Jack Dupon is Arnaud M'Doihoma (bass, vocals), Thomas Larsen (drums, vocals), Gregory Pozzoli (guitar, vocals) and Philippe Prebet (guitar, vocals).

Guitar oriented avant prog.
"L'échelle du Désir" was their debut album. It opened with a 30-minute 'La Trilogie Des Mouces...'.

Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

Here's the band at the RIO festival in 2011 :

JACK DUPON - JESUS L'AVENTURIER

For those of you who are unfamiliar with French avant prog band Jack Dupon, "Jésus L'aventurier", their fifth release, would be a great place to start.
This is progressive rock, but with quite a dose of avant-garde weirdness mixed in.

Although mostly instrumental, "Jésus L'avonturier" is all about adventurous people: Mata Hari, Ulysses,... (all explained in the poster that comes with the album).
And the music is great.

Data has been added to the United Mutations Archives.

THINKING PLAGUE - IN THIS LIFE

  • thinking plague: in this life
        (2015, cd, usa, cuneiform)
Twenty-five years ago, Thinking Plague released "In This Live". It was their third album at the time and it got released by Recommended Records.
Cuneiform is now re-releasing the album, newly remastered.

Thinking Plague's music is a mixture of progressive rock and jazz elements. Some call it Rock In Opposition, or also Avant Rock.
"In This Life" is considered by some as the band's best album. I only know that I like it. Especially the contrast of Susanne Lewis' vocals and the solemn sounding instruments.

Despite some ups and downs and changes in line-ups, the band is still around.

Here's a track from "In This Life" :

GUAPO - OBSCURE KNOWLEDGE

  • guapo: obscure knowledge
        (2015, cd, usa, cuneiform)
Experimental rock (or avant rock) band Guapo has a new album out on the Cuneiform label.
The album is called "Obscure Knowledge".
It's all instrumental and presents three pieces, the first of which is over 25 minutes long !!

This is energetic, hypnotic, progressive rock. The repetetive yet dynamic elements will give you the feeling that you're flying a plane or a space ship. This is great.

ART ZOYD - GENERATION SANS FUTUR

  • art zoyd: génération sans futur
        (1980, lp, france, atem)
French band Art Zoyd released "Génération Sans Futur" (generation without a future") in 1980. It was their third album.
On "Génération Sans Futur", Art Zoyd mixes progressive rock with tribal rhythms and contemprary classical music. The perfect example of the Rock In Opposition (RIO) movement.

The excellent Sub Rosa record label has recently re-released "Génération Sans Futur" on both LP and CD. The re-issue comes with new artwork and the CD also with an extra track.

01. la ville (16.50)
02. speedy gonzales (02.55)

KAZUTOKI UMEZU KIKI BAND - LAND DIZZY

Kazutoki Umezu's Kiki band performed at Zappanale #24, August 2013.
They did an amazing concert.

The albums that they had brought along, sold pretty well. I bought the complete package. A beautiful and great sounding set.
Too bad that one of the albums, "Land Dizzy", was already out of print.
A couple of weeks ago, browsing the internet, I finally found a second-hand copy of "Land Dizzy".
Listening to it right now.
Fabulous.

Their latest album, "+4626 - Comfortzone", exists in two versions: the 2CD 'deluxe' set that comes with a bonus disc of early years demos, and a regular 1CD album.

For those who need to know these kind of things (like myself), +4626 is the telephone area code for Gävle, Sweden, home-town of Beardfish.

ÖZ ÜRÜGÜLÜ - FORGOTTEN ARCHIVES

Saturday, August 16, 2014, I happened to be in Schangnau, Switzerland, at the Zapperlot! festival.
Day 2 of the festival had an unbelievable line-up : Inventionis Mater, Öz Ürügülü,  Anton and the Headcleaners, Mörglbl, and Fido Plays Zappa. And that was just the bands that played at the main stage...
For me, Öz Ürügülü was the greatest discovery.
Progressive, instrumental, experimental rock with some eastern and jazz influences. I loved it.

The band had also brought their first album along: "Forgotten Archives".
This, my dear friends, is something that you definitely need to hear.
If you're in to Secret Chiefs 3 or Zappa,...
