It's that time again! Another urgent broadcast from the small cupboard in which New Ralph Too currently resides.
You may have heard that The Residents had a less than ideal festive season when one of their number was taken seriously ill, meaning the postponement of their ESKIMO tour. Everything was ready to go, band and crew were stocking up on tour bus snacks and honing their video game skills but alas.... I'm sure you'll join us in wishing the Eyeball in question a speedy recovery, and meanwhile the tour is being
rescheduled as we speak - please keep an eye on the band's social media, these newsletters andresidents.comfor new dates, ticket information and so on.
Elsewhere in The Residents' universe the band continues ever-onwards, that being the only way they know. The newly recorded 'Eskimo Folk Tales' mini-album is almost upon us, and they continue to work on their next full length album, which currently has a working title so rude we daren't feed it into the algorithm here. The band seem very excited about both releases - rest assured you'll be the first to know as they develop.
And of course, the guys' next pREServed release will be here in February - you can check out and pre-order 'Animal Lover: Evolution Edition' right here if that's your thing: https://www.cherryred.co.uk/the-residents-animal-lover-evolution-edition-3cd-box-set A 3CD set including two discs of demos and outtakes charting the album's long gestation, it's unlike any other pREServed release in the sheer depth of insight. BUY OR DIE!
And finally, The Residents are well aware of the imminent 50th Anniversary of their 'Third Reich 'N Roll' masterpiece, released on Ralph Records on February 1st 1976. Can it really be?! FIFTY big ones?! Well yes it can, and to acknowledge the ocular occasion the band would like you to have this special concentrate of the 'The Third Reich 'N Roll' RDX mix they produced for a vinyl reissue of the album
some years ago. Stripped back, full of detail lost in the original mix and sounding clear as a bell, they hope you'll enjoy it almost as much as the original. You can find it right here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/qigm3kkz6qtazhmoxt7mv/THE-RESIDENTS-3RNR-50RDXCONCENTRATE.mp3
That's all for now - as ever, please get in touch if you feel the urge, and continue to keep that third eye clear and set to 'receive'.
Kicking off the day with two extraordinary albums by Rahsaan Roland Kirk.
"Vibrations in the Village: Live at the Village Gate".
Recorded live at the Village Gate in New York City on November 26-27,1963 with pianists Horace Parlan, Melvin Rhyne, and Jane Getz, along with bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Sonny Brown. Released in December 2025.
And, "Seek & Listen: Live at the Penthouse"
Recorded live at the Penthouse jazz club in Seattle on September 8 and 15, 1967 with pianist Rahn Burton, bassist Steve Novosel and drummer Jimmy Hopps. Also released in December 25.
Both albums got released on the Resonance record label, also available on Bandcamp.
The Orchestra Of The Upper Atmosphere has just released "Theta Seven", their seventh (and final?) release.
Martin Archer – Woodwind, Keyboards, Software Instruments
Jan Todd – Vocals, Melodies, Electronics, Harp, Sound Recordings, Samples
Steve Dinsdale – Drums, Keyboards
Lorin Halsall – Acoustic And Electric Double Basses, Electronics
Yvonna Magda – Violin And Electronics
Andy Peake – Piano, Keyboards
Walt Shaw – Drums, Percussion, Electronics
Terry Todd – Bass Guitar
Here's the concept:
As with previous releases, basic tracks, either using simple compositional ideas or freely improvised, were recorded live in the studio by the full band over a frenetic 2 day period. These tracks were radically edited and collaged by Martin Archer, and finally overdubbed and arranged by Martin Archer and Jan Todd working in tandem to arrive at the seamless continuity of sound heard on the finished work.
The result sounds amazing. Hypnotic and amazing. And (!!), there's even a Sun Ra tune in there !!
Released on Martin Archer's Discus Music record label.
Our "inclement weather" break is officially over. Time to get out and have some fun. So, join us next week when we hit the stage at The Iridium on Broadway. Tuesday, February 3rd at 8:30 pm. Don't be a square, see you there!
Wandering Willow Records and MoonJune Records, present the latest release from multi-instrumentalist Anton Roolaart, The Ballad of General Jupiter. Entirely composed and produced by Anton — except for the closing track Yesterday and Today (written by Jon Anderson of Yes), this album marks another bold step in Anton’s artistic evolution.
Blending rich musical textures with evocative and lyrical storytelling, The Ballad of General Jupiter is a collection of sonic tales — snapshots of imagination, emotion, and resilience. With echoes of Bowie, Pink Floyd, and early Genesis, Roolaart paints vivid musical portraits shaped by imagination, introspection, and social consciousness as he explores not only personal themes, but also broader reflections on a world grappling with chaos, greed, and injustice.
b.mez is a project developed by members of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic: Michael Bierylo, Ken Field, Rick Scott, and for this recording, Roger Miller, the original co-founder of Birdsongs.
Well, well, well, here it is... The Bongo Fury 50th Anniversary Edition is officially unleashed and available for pre-order.
In May 1975, long-time cohorts Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart joined forces once again. The outcome was Bongo Fury — an album built from live recordings at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas, as well as some studio sessions at The Record Plant in Los Angeles. It also happens to be the last album to carry the name “The Mothers,” which was officially retired in 1976.
The new 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition presents 5 CDs of material (roughly 80% unreleased), including the full album, studio outtakes, the two complete Armadillo concerts, and Blu-ray with Atmos, 5.1, and high-res stereo audio options. The set is rounded out with a booklet with unseen photos and liner notes by band member, Denny Walley, and Vaultmeister, Joe Travers.
Also available on 2LP, 1LP black vinyl, and a limited-edition 180g orange & black galaxy vinyl, complete with a lithograph of the band.

This beautiful little gem arrived in my mailbox about a week ago: a CDR with the radio edit of Zita Swoon's 'Tasuma / Ji'. Sent to radio stations around June 2012 to promote the Zita Swoon Group's appearance at the Cactus Festival and at the Sfinks festival, both to be held in July 2012.
Three books. Three collections of xeroxed articles. Hundreds of articles & 300+ pages in each volume. Late eighties, early nineties. Produced by Peter Hinds. (yes, that's musician, author and Sun Ra specialist Peter Hinds).
"Strips - Werk Van Nederlandse Striptekenaars" ("Comics - Work by Dutch Comic Artists")
"Strips - Werk Van Nederlandse Striptekenaars" got released in the early 1970s in The Netherlands. It was a 92-page reference book; listing over 150 comic book artists with a short bio and an illustration.
The comic :
Gerrit De Jager's entry showed his reworking of 'Billy The Mountain" !!
Panzerpappa: Koralrevens Klagesang (2006, cd, Norway, hangar b)
There's always a reason to listen to some Panzerpappa. "Koralrevens Klagesang", from 2006. As the album title might predict, "Koralrevens Klagesang" takes of with a lament. It almost sounds like a death march. From the second piece onwards, however, we return to the more familiar complex and eclectic mix of Panzerpappa. Nice.
Brenda Theabo Quartet: Live At Mongo's (2004, cdr, USA, private release)
Brenda Theabo (trombone & vocals), Tom Theabo (guitar), Kevin Wells (bass), Tony Taylor (drums). Recorded in concert and released on CDR in 2004.
I'm very happy that I was able to get hold of a copy. The band sounds great and they play a fine selection of tunes, including Oliver Nelson's 'Stolen Moments' in an arrangement of Frank Zappa. To make the link more clear, Brenda sings 'Murder By Numbers' over the tune. Lovely.
Ingrid Jensen: Here On Earth (1997, cd, Germany, enja records)
"Here On Earth" was Canadian jazz trumpeter Ingrid Jensen's second album as a leader. Ten beautiful tunes, four original compositions (two by Ingrid Jensen and two by George Colligan) plus pieces by Kenny Wheeler, Cole Porter, Gil Evans / Miles Davis,...
Ingrid Jensen (trumpet), Gary Bartz (alto & soprano sax), George Colligan (piano), Dwayne Burno (bass), and Bill Stewart (drums), plus a vocal appearance by Jill Seifers.
A fine discovery.

"Anagnorisis", the latest in Dharmawan's series of widely varied and impeccably crafted albums for MoonJune Records, might well be the most fully realized expression yet of his expansive musical vision. While deeply grounded in the sophisticated melodic and rhythmic intricacies of his native archipelago, where he’s long been celebrated for his work bridging serious and popular realms, Dharmawan also looks beyond those traditions for inspiration, joining with players from disparate cultures to blend the best of their respective worlds into a meta-music of depth, beauty, and vitality that transcends mere collage.
Modern jazz with Indonesian flavours. Beautiful. The album is also out on (coloured) vinyl, with different artwork !
Not sure what to make of this. Is this sampled? It does have the 'vibe' we know from 'I'm The Slime' or 'Stink-Foot'. Ready for the guitar solo to kick in...
'Zappa' by Gadzso from the brand-new "Pentecost" album, out on digital music platforms.
Joe D here. It gives me great pleasure to announce Stratospheerius’ first show of the year!
We are excited to double a double bill with our good friend Jane Getter & her band Premonition Sunday, March 1st at 8 PM at the legendary Iridium.
1650 Broadway on 51st St in NYC.
Jane is a badass guitarist, singer, and songwriter who blends jazz and prog to create her own unique sound. Along with her incredible band which features her husband, keyboardist Adam Holzman (Steven Wilson, Miles Davis), drummer Gene Lake, and bassist Paul Frazier, she has toured the world and released seven albums to critical acclaim. Joining Jane on guitar that evening will be our own Michelangelo Quirinale, the hardest working man in show business!
Jane is a friend of the band, and after trying to put a show together for years and overcoming many scheduling challenging, we are excited that we’re finally making this night happen!
This show will also serve as a warmup for Jane’s appearance on Cruise to the Edge March 4-9.
As I’ve mentioned before, Stratospheerius shows are rare these days due to my touring schedule with Kansas, so we really hope you can join us for this special night if you’re in the NY area.
Stratospheerius will be:
Joe Deninzon-electric violin; lead vocals
Jason Gianni-drums/background vocals
Michelangelo Quirinale-guitar/vocals
Jeff Kotch-bass
Here's Jane Getter's Premonition with a track from their 2024 "Division World" album. (Jane Getter -guitar, vocals * Adam Holzman -keyboards * Alex Skolnick - guitar * Paul Frazier - bass, vocals * Gene Lake - drums * Randy McStine - vocals)
In their latest newsletter, the Vienna-based Studio Dan ensemble listed all their upcoming concerts.
The "How's Your Bird?" show (28–31.05.2026) might be classified as a concert for children, but if you have the opportunity to go, you should not hesitate. Visually entertaining and music by Frank Zappa.

Mats / Morgan: Make Mats/Morgan Great Again (2026, cd, Sweden, m.rec 009)
Last year, Mats and Morgan surprised us by doing a live stream concert entitled "Make Mats/Morgan Great Again". An incredibly intense and beautiful concert with lots of familiar tunes. The audio was made available on Bandcamp and the video is up on YouTube, but for the aficionados, the recording has now been made available on CD as well.
It looks great and it sounds even better. The (cardboard fold-out packaged) CD is a limited edition, so don't hesitate.
The late Belgian guitar player and composer Pierre Van Dormael founded the Nasa Na band in the late eighties / early ninetees. A few years later, Nasa Na would evolve into Aka Moon...
Pierre also worked very closely with the Octurn ensemble. Their "North Country Suite" album / collaboration (from 2007) is a joy to listen to !

A promising newsflash from Det Skandaløse Orkester
2025 was the best concert year ever for us, and it all culminated with the finale at Kvarteret in Bergen. It must be the best concert we have ever delivered together with the audience, and it was unanimously awarded a 6 out of 6. We got some great audio and video recordings, and now we are planning to release a live album and concert film sometime this year.
Elipsis unites three distinct musical voices, each rooted in tradition while pushing boldly into the future.
Master percussionist Pedrito MartÃnez weaves Afro-Cuban heritage with innovation; drummer and composer Antonio Sánchez brings boundary-breaking experience across jazz, film, and contemporary music; and Michael League, founder of Snarky Puppy and acclaimed producer, anchors the trio’s expansive vision. Together, they create future folklore — music that honors its roots while imagining what comes next.
Their eponymous album is out.
Here's a recording of the trio at the North Sea Jazz Festival, 7 years ago:
And it all amounted to some of the best performances of Frank Zappa's music, spread across various Meridian Arts Ensemble albums. And that was even before the MAE released "The Zappa House Concert".
Pieces by Scarlatti, King Crimson, by the MAE members, and, of course, a fine set of Frank Zappa compositions. As the liner notes stated 'Frank’s longtime engineer Greg “Marqueson” Coy set up a single microphone in front of us and recorded the concert. That recording is what you hear on this disc.'
I guess this is one what could call an audience recording, but it sounds really good. Beautiful.
It's being released through several digital music platforms, and I do hope that there will be a CD release as well.
And it includes Joe Newman's (= Rudy Schwartz Project) arrangement of the Black Page !!
King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard: Europe 25’ (2026, 3lp, --, the reverberation appreciation society)
It just doesn't stop. Another King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard release.
Limited trifold green, blue & yellow splattered vinyl 3LP.
It's another release in the "Bootlegger" series. You can download the files from the KG&TLW website and produce your own release if you agree with the deal:
If anyone wants to release these albums, you’re free to do so. Below you’ll find links to audio master files and cover art. Feel free to get creative with it if you like - it’s yours. Only deal is you’ve gotta send us some of them to sell on pdoomrecords.com - whatever you feel is a fair trade is cool with us. Ideas: double LPs, 7”, remix, reimagined cover art, bizarre looking wax, live show box sets, tapes. Or keep it simple - that’s totally ok.
Albert Marcoeur: Sports Et Percussions (1994, cd, France, disques concord )
Released over thirty years ago, "Sports Et Percussions" is a great introduction to the music of Albert Marcoeur. It may be rather hard to find as the CD sold out quite a while ago, but the search is worth the effort.
LA JUNGLE shifts into third gear and treats itself to a two-drum-kit go-fast. The duo becomes a trio with its seventh studio album, "An Order Of Things". Nine tracks written by six hands in Mons, on the banks of La Trouille — the unsettling river — and recorded in the woods of Normandy.
