BRETTS MILK - MAMMARIES OF MOMMY

Next to the new 7" by The Residents, my recent order from Psychofon Records included Bretts Milk's latest release.
There's quite a bit of Bretts Milk's music available on Bandcamp but if I'm not mistaken this is the second album that actually gets released in the CD format.

The previous album, "Daddy's Breath", from 2016, did leave quite an impression, so I was rather curious and excited when I gave "Mammaries Of Mummy" its first spin.
I'm happy to say that I got what I hoped for. "Mammaries Of Mummy" is a fine album with a star role for Nolan Cook who guests on 5 of the 10 tracks and who gives it the extra punch.

Limited edition of 150 copies. Comes in a fold-out 7" cover.

HARDY FOX - NACHTZUG

  • hardy fox: nachtzug
        (2018, cd, austria, klanggalerie gg274)

"Nachtzug" (Night Train) is Hardy Fox second solo album (as Hardy Fox, that is).
The album presents 7 tracks and totals a bit over 20 minutes.

If you liked Hardy's previous (self-titled) album, you should definitely take a trip on this "NightTrain".
Very recognizable. Both in composition as in instrumentation.
With special guest Nolan Cook on the guitar.
Very enjoyable.

DIMESLAND - CREEPMOON

The reason for me to check out Dimesland (or to Land Of Thin Dimes as the band was originally called) came from Nolan Cook. Nolan plays the guitar for The Residents. On record and on tour.
During the last years, Nolan Cook's guitar playing has added a very recognisable, typical sound on The Residents' recordings. Clean, long, floating notes. A sound that fits The Residents perfectly.

His work on Dimesland is quite different. Dimesland is a metal band. The guitar is a lot heavier and more energetic. Not something that I would consume on an empty stomach.

"Creepmoon" is a 15-minute mini album that got released in 2012, a couple of years before their latest "Psychogenic Atrophy".

Available from :
http://dimesland.bandcamp.com/

Here's one of their more recent songs. It will give you a pretty good idea of what Dimesland is about.

OSTRICH VON NIPPLE - QUALIFIES ABSURDITY

Psychofon Records released "Ostrich Von Nipple Qualifies Absurdity" in 2016.
It's a 3"CD that presents 6 new tracks.
A perfect companion to the previously released "Ostrich Von Nipple Quantifies Absurdity" album.
It got released in a limited quantity of 150 copies. I checked and it's still available.

Mandatory for Residents freaks.
It sounds great.
With Nolan Cook (The Residents) on the guitar.

For more info, go to Psychofon Records, where you can also listen to some sound samples.

DIMESLAND - PSYCHOGENIC ATROPHY

Released as a dowload-only album in 2014 and on CD by the Crucial Blast label in 2015.
I mentioned this album on this very blog around the time that it got on CD but as I was playing it again last week, I thought it needed some extra attention.

"Psychogenic Atrophy".
Well, I guess they could also have called it "Losing (Functionality Of) Part Of Your Body, Caused By Mental Stress Or By Psychiatric Disorder" but that probably didn't sound that catchy.

"Psychogenic Atrophy" is Dimesland's first full album. Or their second if you consider the mini-album "Creepmoon" their first. Or even their third if you start counting with "Land Of Dimes"...

This album featured Nolan Cook, guitar wizard for The Residents, his late brother Drew on guitar, Greg Brace on bass and Harland Burkhart on drums.
The music is hard to describe. It's metal but it is incredibly complex and has these complicated arrangements.
I've heard people call it avant-garde death metal, or even progressive trash.
I wouldn't know what to call it, I just play it loud.

I like it. I like it a lot.
It does need a couple of listening sessions (and the right mood), but it's a very fine album.
Give it a try !

BRETTS MILK - DADDY'S BREATH

As you can imagine, the music that gets aired at the United Mutations Headquarters is quite different from what one can hear on his or her local or national radio station.
"Daddy's Breath", the first release by Bretts Milk, is no exception.

With the help of Ostrich Von Nipple and special guests Hamface and Nolan Cook (on 'Milky Nipps' !), Bretts Milk has produced a very impressive album. The Residents' influence is obvious but not overwhelming. This is good, and funny too.
I have listened to "Daddy's Breath' numerous times the last couple of days and I keep discovering new things all the time.
Browsing the net for me info, I found this excellent review on LastRewind :
http://lastrewind.com/2016/10/review-bretts-milk-daddys-breath/
It includes some samples as well, so be sure to check it out.

"Daddy's Breath" is an excellent album. You need to hear it.

The album has been released in a limited edition of 200 copies, so don't wait too long.
It's out on Psychofon Records :
https://www.psychofonrecords.com/

This is music from the other side of the fence and that's fine with me, as I dwell on that other side most of the time.

ZAPPANALE #27 - PART 14 - THE GOOD-BYE SESSION

At Zappanale, the video crew records a number of main stage shows. They've been doing this since 2007. Recordings of these shows a being made availabe at the festival ground, but only in a very limited edition of 20 or so copies.
I like the concept. It offers the opportunity to re-live some of the concerts.

I've already mentioned the DVDR-recording of The Muffin Men, Lex Bronkowitz Orchestra, The Magic Band, Hazmat Modine, The Grandmothers with the Yellow String Quartet, ZBMF, The Dorf, and Paul Green's Rock Academy.
The last one in this year's series is a recording of the "Good-Bye" session. This is the final moment on the main stage where musicians from different bands and ensembles join for a jam or for playing some Zappa music.
Rather chaotic most of the time, but it always carries some interesting moments and combinations as well.

Orchestrated by Paul Green, the Good-Bye Session started with The Muffin Men, Denny Walley, Ed Mann and a couple of Rock Academy kids. I also saw Alli Bach on stage, and Rupert Kettle,
And I heard 'King Kong',

OSTRICH VON NIPPLE - SWARM SUITE

I briefly mentioned Ostrich Von Nipple's excellent "Swarm Suite" a bit over a month ago.
It's his latest album. Out on the Germany Psychofon label.
The 10" picture disc comes with a CD and it includes two pieces of music: 'Swarm Suite' and 'So Do They'.
Very nice.

Lots of Residents influences here.
Featuring Nolan Cook on certain guitar parts.
And as you can imagine by the presence of the blue / devine creatures, there's even a sitar to be heard!!

As I was playing the album again this morning, I noticed that I hadn't added pictures of the 10" picture disc to the United Mutations Archives.
So here they are.

Here's a track from OVN's previous album:

DIMESLAND

After their 2012 debut EP, "Creepmoon", Dimesland released their first full-length album in 2014.

The album is entitled "Psychogenic Atrophy" and it will blow you away. Literally.

The album features Drew Cook (who passed away last year), his brother Nolan Cook (The Residents), Greg Brace and Harland Burkhart.

OSTRICH VON NIPPLE - SWARM SUITE

The German Psychofon Records label has released the latest Ostrich Von Nipple album.
It's a 2-track 10" vinyl album and it includes a CD (with the same tracks) and a button as a bonus.
The above picture is the cover of the CD.
I'll be adding a picture of the 10" tomorrow.

This is superb. Out of this world. Artwork by Poxodd.
For those unfamiliar with Ostrich Von Nipple, here's a sample of one of his previous albums :

Influenced by The Residents, and featuring Nolan Cook (of Residents fame) !!

OSTRICH VON NIPPLE - QUANTIFIES ABSURDITY

"Ostrich Von Nipple Quantifies Absurdity" is OVN's third album. It follows "Contemplates The Cosmos" (2011) and "Plays Some Shitty Tunes" (2012).

OVN's output has a very recognisable style. Both music and artwork are very distinct. Yet, both the music and the artwork keep surprising me. Time after time.

Dark. Almost haunting.
With excellent guitar work by Nolan Cook and an unexpected appearance by Molly Harvey.
I love it.

Superb artwork, beautiful packaging & great music.
Fans of The Residents / Nolan Cook / Molley Harvey / Ostrich Von Nipple will not be disapointed.
This is a must-have !!

Go to http://www.psychofonrecords.com/  and order your copy today (as this is a limited edition of 300 copies)

There's also a collectors / "die-hard" edition (33 copies) and a 7" vinyl single with bonus material (50 copies), so don't wait too long.

NOLAN COOK - FROM THE NC LAB

Nolan Cook should be known to you as the guitar player for The Residents and for Ostrich Von Nipple.

Here's a shot by Eyeballmuseum from the recent Residents tour.

But the main reason for this little write-up, is Nolan Cook's "From The NC Lab" album that he made available through Bandcamp.
Check it out. It's great.

OSTRICH VON NIPPLE ON BANDCAMP

a message from Ostrich Von Nipple

Greetings friends. We have just posted a free promotional sampler from the Cosmos days on Bandcamp. This rare CD was handed out in Atlanta in 2011 and contains a collage-based track that represents various aspects of the Ostrich Von Nipple Contemplates the Cosmos record. Please feel free to download for free (although we do request your email) or offer a small donation. This music contains the incredible guitar work of Nolan Cook and r0b0t, the hypnotic percussion of Savage Joe, and the young and innocent voice of Havyn the Hatchling. Thanks, and tell your friends/enemies!!!
