A bit over a year ago, the Cordelia record label released "Satan Killed Me Today" by John Trubee And The Ugly Janitors Of America.
Actually, the CD presents two albums: "The Deserts Of Eternity" (recorded in 2022), and "Satan Killed Me Today" (from 2004/2005).

I've always been a fan of John Trubee. I like his attitude, his lyrics, his songs and his guitar playing.
John music is very recognizable. Although I can't put my finger on it, it has a very distinct sound and it's something that I like a lot.
Add his Ugly Janitors Of America band and the beautiful voice of Laurie Amat and you get a excellent album.

Do I need to mention that John Trubee is one of my musical heroes? Despite his ranting and constantly criticizing society while doing crappy jobs to survive, he not only recorded and toured with the late Zoogz Rift, but he also released a couple of superb albums in his own right : "The Communists Are Coming To Kill Us" (1984), "Naked Teenage Girls In Outer Space" (1985), "Beyond Eternity / Lavender Flesh" (1986, also on Cordelia), "Strange Hippie Sex Carnival" (1989), and the superb "World Of Lying Pigs" (1994).
The last couple of years, Trubee has self-released three vinyl albums. Check those out at:

Anyway, there's this brand-new release by Cordelia Records.
Aptly titled "My Hope Is A Broken Dog..." the album collects (mostly unreleased) live and studio material. Next to the fact that it features Marc Mylar (Ugly Janitors, Zoogz Rift), Kurt McGettrick (Zappa) and Laurie Amat (The Residents), this album is well worth investigating. The live material goes back to 1983, but there's also a couple of tracks that got recorded in 2015 at Don Campau's studio.

Earlier this year, John Trubee released three records.
"Gloop Nox And The Stik People" was a collection of material that John Trubee and Jim Nevius had written in the seventies. It got re-recorded and put on an album. It sounded good. Very seventies, but good.
"A Blind Man's Penis And Other Smash Hits" had us listening to recordings from 1999 and 2004. Sounded really good. It made me wonder what JT had been up to lately, music-wise.
But there's also "Nude Woman Exdocrius", presenting recordings from 2013 and 2014, and that's just awesome.

This is it. This is the real deal. This is the brand-new John Trubee album that we've been waiting for. Parts recorded in L.A. and parts in San Francisco, the album sounds heavier and funkier than what I've heard before.
Excellent vocals by Mark Langton and by Laurie Amat. Superb guitar playing by John Trubee.
I love it.

I mentioned the John Trubee / Jim Nevius collaboration, Gloop Nox & The Stik People a couple of weeks ago, telling you that John Trubee had recentely released three records.
Here's "A Blind Man's Penis And Other Smash Hits", presenting a fabulous bunch of new material next to some older songs. The older songs being 'A Blind Man's Penis' and 'Your Stupid Friends' from the excellent "World Of Lying Pigs" album.
The new material is from a December 1998 / January 1999 session and from the 2004/2005 project "Satan Killed Me Today".

I'm playing the album right now (and pretty loud too, if I may add) and it is great.
Honest album artwork (you see what you get), excellent info on the different recordings sessions and the participating musicians, and printed-out lyrics...  Great package.
An excellent job by John Trubee. Featuring Richie Hass, Marc Mylar, Kurt McGettrick (who recorded an toured with Zappa in 1988) and Laurie Amat (who recorded and toured with The Residents).

Highly recommended !!

Recorded on September 23rd, 1979 in Freddy Reed's basement in Yardley, Pennsylvania. I organized this zero budget recording session to record some dreamy, hypnotic music suggestive of desert expanses to listen to in the car on my then upcoming transcontinental road trip to California. Utterly, totally improvised. Performed, invented, and recorded TOTALLY FOR FUN!!!!!!

GLOOP NOX AND THE STIK PEOPLE - CONTINUING WHERE THE BEATLES LEFT OFF...

In 1973, while attending Lawrenceville School, John Trubee joined Jim Nevius' Gloop Nox & The Stik People. The band existed only for a couple of years. Early 2011, John Trubee and Jim Nevius decided to reform the band to record the songs that they had written all those years ago. Just for fun. The recordings got released as "Continuing Where The Beatles Left Off..." earlier this year.

The album got released on plain old vinyl by John Trubee and presents 9 tracks. 5 were written by John Trubee, the other 4 by Jim Nevius.

I enjoyed listening to "Continuing Where The Beatles Left Off...". The songs do sound as they were written in the 70's, obvious psychedelic influences included, but they also carry the distinct Trubee stamp.
Nice. Very nice.
