Band created in December 2015 at the suggestion of Jean-Pierre Vivante, manager of Le Triton, who saw the reunion of these 4 musicians as the "dream team" for his concert venue. Although Franck Vaillant, Christophe Godin, Médéric Collignon and Philippe Bussonnet had never met nor played together before, the musical alchemy was there and the band was born. They released their first eponymous album one year after their first concert together.

Featuring jazz drummer Franck Vaillant, guitar wizard Christophe Godin, jazz trumpet player Médéric Collignon, and (former) Magma bass player Philippe Bussonnet.

I probably mentioned this album shortly after it got released. I'm a huge fan of Christophe Godin's guitar playing and I try to listen to every project he's involved in.
Unfortunately, Wax'In only recorded one album. I would have loved to hear more from this amazing quartet.

As the album got recommended to me recently, I thought it was only appropriate to give it another mention (while giving it another spin).

After a 4-year hiatus, and a few plastic surgery procedures to make sure they don't look a day older, Mörglbl are treating themselves to a few dates in venues that have marked their history, including, of course, Le Triton! A setlist that draws on the trio's long discography, with a few surprises and some tracks rarely performed live!

Looking for the latest Mörglbl release (with guitar wizard Christophe Godin), I came across "Wax'in", a project by Magma bass player Philippe Bussonnet, world music percussionist and drummer Franck Vaillant, jazz trumpet player Médéric Collignon and the aforementioned Christophe Godin.

All four musicians regularly take the stage at Le Triton, a club in Les Lilas in Paris, performing as a leader or frontman of their trio or quartet.
September 2016 was the first time they performed in the same band, as a quartet. At Le Triton. The result got recorded and released by the Le Triton record label.

Coming from different musical corners, this band offers an amazing mix of progressive rock and jazz. "Wax'in" will make you hold your breath.

Mental note to myself: next time in Paris, visit Le Triton.

MÖRGLBL - TEA TIME FOR PUNKS

Virtuoso guitar player Christophe Godin's Mörglbl trio released "Tea Time For Punks" a little while ago. I'm a big fan of the Mörglbl trio but for some reason or another I only recently got hold of the album.
"Tea Time For Punks" is great. It's album number six in an incredible series
Essential listening for guitar freaks.

Tight, technically unlikely and hilarious, mixing metal and fusion.. That's Mörglbl.

MOSAE ZAPPA 045 PRESENTS MÖRGLBL AND APE SHIFTER

Mosae Zappa is the name of a festival that takes place in and around Heerlen, NL.

The first edition counted two evenings and took place in 2011. It featured Lilo, The Wrong Object, The Yellow Snow Crystals, The Beefheart Project and Tarentatec.

The second edition happened in June 2012. Ensemble Mosae, The Muze Jazz Orchestra, The Lex Bronkowitz Orchestra, Grupo Go, and Peach Noise all made an appearance.

After a bit of an hiatus, the festival returned in 2016 (with an extended crew) as Mosae Zappa 045 : one evening (plus some afternoon activities) with John's Got A Sausage, Bits From Hell, The Wrong Object, and The Foolz.

In the meantime, the team behind Mosae Zappa 045 decided that they should do more than organize a festival. Mosae Zappa 045 has the intention to promote music by organizing concerts.
Fortunately, they plug the music that I like.

September 21, Mosae Zappa 04, in collaboration with concert venue De Nieuwe Nor, will present Mörglbl and Ape Shifter.
For French guitar wizard Christophe Godin and his Mörglbl project, this will be the first date of their 3 or 4 day tour in The Netherlands. I've seen the band in concert two times and they're not to be missed.
German band Ape Shifter doesn't ring any bells with me. The clip sounds promising. They have one album out. Released last March.

Christophe Godin might have put the Gnô project on hold shortly after the release of this album, but "Crass Palace" is a very enjoyable album.

Gaby Vegh on bass and vocals, Christophe Godin on guitar and vocals, and Julien Rousset on drums and percussion.
Guitar oriented heavy metal pop.

As I was looking for the 2014 Zapperlot! festival booklet, I came across this Mörglbl DVD that I had brought home from the cosy little Swiss festival.
I can't recall mentioning it on the blog, so here it is.

Released one year after their "Jäzz For The Deaf" album, "Live And Loud For The Deaf" features Christophe Godin (guitar), Ivan Rougny (bass) and Aurélien Ouzoulias (drums) in concert at Digne Les Bain in January 2009.

Professional recording. Multi-camera. Released by the band.

Excellent stuff.
Brings back nice memories of their Zapperlot! concert.

ZAPPERLOT 2014 - - - MÖRGLBL

French band Mörglbl was one of the reasons for me to drive to Switzerland to attend the Zapperlot! Festival.
Mörglbl played on day two: Saturday Aug 16, 2014.

I'm a big fan of Christophe Godin's guitar playing and this was a great opportunity to see him in action again.
Ivan Rougny (on bass) and Aurélien Ouzoulias (on drums) completed the trio.
They played a tight and impessive set (despite the electrical power failure break).
It was loud. Well, very loud, actually, but also very good. And funny.
These guys know how to transmit their energy to the audience.
