Former Sebkha-Chott team speaking to you! As you probably know, Sebkha-Chott has ended up in 2015 as far as live-shows are concerned and in 2019 for our last release. Still, we're going on with a new project called Plagiat since 2016, and I'm pretty sure you might enjoy it.

SEBKHA-CHOTT & GALOOT FORMULA'S "THING FISH" PERFORMANCE AT ZAPPANALE

Sebkha-Chott's "Thing Fish" performance was one of the highlights of the latest Zappanale Festival.
A video recording of the concert was made available at the festival as a limited DVDR-release.
For those of you who weren't there, there's a set of Max Schindler's pictures as well.

ZAPPANALE 2013 - - - PART TWELVE : AUGUST 2 – DASCH2 // THE DANGEROUS KITCHEN // ALI N. ASKIN // SEBKHA-CHOTT

Recovering from Anton And The Headcleaners’ fabulous concert, I only caught a bit of Dasch2.
It sounded great.
Here’s Bazbo’s recording of one of their pieces.



After shaking hands with Reinhard Preuss again (after 20 years !) and checking out Freak Show Charlie’s Corner, it was time for the Dangerous Kitchen band.
Loved those vocals. If you ever want to start a band to perform Zappa’s music, keep it instrumental, unless you’ve got a vocalist like Holger Auer, that is.

Next up was Ali N. Askin's band. On the small stage.

This was fabulous. After a couple of notes, I thought I was listening to Miles Davis' electric band, or to Weather Report. Superb!

I loved it and there were still two concerts to come.

Sebkha Chott had to do their show without Ike Willis, who had not been able to leave the u.s.a. due to a problem with his passport.
Too bad as they were performing the entire "Thing-Fish" opera. And just to show that things can always get worse, there were some major problems with the microphones that postponed the start of the concert with about half an hour...
Once that it had started, all of this was soon forgotten as the show was great. Out of this world. Best thing I saw all day.
I'm not saying that this was the best sounding concert, musically, but it sure was the best show.
Hard to believe that this was a one-time event.

The evening ended with Fried Dahn And The Brains at the Mystery Stage. From what I saw and heard while I was leaving the festival ground, they used Zappa speech samples and pictures during their concert. I was completely saturated and left.
What a day...

SEBKHA-CHOTT - THE NE(XXX)T EPILOG

French experimental rock band Sebkha-Chott released their fifth album last year.
Nobody remains indifferent when it comes to Sebkha-Chott. You like what they do, or you don't. There's no in-between.
I'm a fan. I like how they switch between musical genres every couple of seconds. I like the power and the energy that they transmit. And I really like their 2010 Zappanale performance.

"The Ne(XXX)t Epilog" proclaims that time (and chronology) is just a perception. It reminded me of something I had read at Rip Rense's website, about an evening he had spent at Zappa's house:

Matt "The Simpsons" Groening was a favorite attendee of the salons. One evening's arcane chat strayed from favorite bad horror films ("From Hell It Came," featuring the walking tree monster, The Tobanga, was the composer's preference) to a discussion of Zappa's Dada-esque philosophy of creating art: "Anything Anytime Anyplace For No Reason At All," or AAAFNRAA. This led, not illogically, to an exchange about the nature of time. In part, it went like this:

"I think of time as a spherical constant," said Frank, "which means that everything is happening all the time. It provides an easy explanation for premonitions, ghosts, flashbacks, because the whole concept of time that human beings have had is taking something they can't really comprehend and settling for a mediocre explanation of how it works. They take a linear approach to it, slice it in segments, and then hop from segment to segment to segment until they die, and to me that is a pretty inefficient way of preparing a mechanical ground base for physics. That's one of the reasons why I think physics doesn't work. When you have contradictory things in physics, one of the reasons they became contradictory is because the formulas are tied to a concept of time that isn't the proper model. So in my model, time is a spherical constant and everything is happening all the time. And we just don't have access to those segments of the sphere that we might want to access. Except on rare occasions where something goes wrong with the human condition, or some wiring is changed. In some people the wiring may be genetically altered, and you may be able to look not into the future, but just look 'sideways,' and come up with a glimpse of the way things 'will be' down the road in normal person time ---except that you've just seen it now, because it's happening now as well as later." Responded Groening: "That's like reruns!" "Exactly!" said Zappa.

NEW SEBKHA-CHOTT ALBUM AND MORE

Somehow this one skipped the U.M. radar...
Last year, Sebkha-Chott released a new album entitled "The Ne(XXX)t Epilog".

In the meantime, it seems that Sebkha-Chott is getting ready for their Zappanale gig where they will be performing Frank Zappa's "Thing-Fish", with special guest Ike Willis.


The band started a fund-raising project for the Zappanale Thing-Fish performance.
