Norman Hartnett was the vocalist for German band Frank Out! in 2016 and 2017.
Earlier this year, Norman released two EP’s through a couple of digital music platforms.
His “Something Else” album included his version of FZ’s ‘My Guitar Wants To Kill You Mama’.
divine hand ensemble: aria 51 (2022, cd, usa, private release)
I probably mentioned this release a little while ago, but last week, the CD arrived in Belgium.
Next to Dave Hartl on accordion and organ (who released an album with Frank Zappa tunes in 2019) , the eleven-piece Divine Hand Orchestra features Mano Divina on Theremins and on tesla coils.
Subtitled “Songs From The 20th Century Voiced With Singing Electricity” the album offers classical pieces as well as pop songs.
The first piece on the album was FZ’s ‘Peaches En Regalia’ but I also enjoyed the other tracks a lot.
Angelic sounds. Love it.
In concert, the band also performed FZ's 'Cletus Awreetus Awrightus'.
After having done a similar exercise with Frank Zappa's music, French guitar player and composer Pierrejean Gaucher is now zapping through and being inspired by Erik Satie's repertoire.
Pierrejean released his "Zappe Satie" album last year and now, he's finally able to take it on the road. Together with Quentin Ghomari (trumpet), Thibault Gomez (electric piano), Alexandre Perrot (double bass), and Ariel Tessier (drums), Pierrejean Gaucher will perform a series of concerts in France, kicking off with a gig in Paris !
If you're in the neighbourhood, be sure to check this out.
Eugene Chadbourne is a DIY (Do It Yourself) artist. He releases his music on CDRs that he packs in old used record sleeves or other cardboard material, and distributes these during concerts (and through his webshop).
Browsing his webshop, I came across an album I hadn't heard of previously. "Horror Part 9" (actually the ninth volume in his "Horror" series), featuring Jimmy Carl Black.
The Horror Part Nine Band was an ensemble created for a special event in a year when I had “carte blanche” at the Vandouevre-based Action! festival. As such, the ninth volume in the series began its life as a stage performance that would have been best documented on film. The sound recording of the event originally was available only to punters purchasing the Horror Box Set and was not available individually. In the first of three acts Jimmy Carl Black recites Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven, act two pays tribute to a creepy monster created by my oldest brother that I call the Hopping Fiend. In the final act Ray Dennis Steckler’s concept of monsters attacking a movie theatre audience was revisited on the French audience…
British Hard Rock Supergroup Snakecharmer “Anthology” 4-CD Box Set Feat. Former Members Whitesnake, Wishbone Ash, and Thunder Available For Pre-order
Release date October 28, 2022
British hard rock supergroup Snakecharmer was formed in 2013 by former members of Whitesnake, Wishbone Ash, and Thunder.
The resulting line-up is a veritable who's-who of classic hard rock: Vocalist Chris Ousey (Heartland), Guitarist Laurie Wisefield (Wishbone Ash), Drummer Harry James (Thunder), and Keyboardist Adam Wakeman (Ozzy Osbourne) Guitarist Micky Moody (Whitesnake)
Given the band's pedigree, it was inevitable that the music would sound like good-time, classic melodic hard rock with a blues edge, their eponymous debut was released in 2013 by Frontiers. The response from fans and critics alike was rapturous, and the band toured to wide acclaim.
In 2015, Moody left the band, replaced by young Irish-born virtuoso Simon McBride. Snakecharmer's follow up album, Second Skin, arrived in 2017.
This 4-CD box set collects the bands two studio albums as well as two live shows from Milton Keynes which show the band at work in a live environment, the booklet has notes by Classic Rocks Dave Ling talking to the band about their career as well as newly mastered studio albums done by Tony Dixon.
