CHICKENFOOT - DIFFERENT DEVIL

Here's another Chickenfoot knick-knack. This one is rather recent. It's a mini-album (4 tracks) that features 'Different Devil' plus three live tracks.
Joe Satriani on guitar.

CHICKENFOOT - SEXY LITTLE THING

Here's another nice picture. It's the cover of the Chickenfoot "Sexy Little Thing" promo single.
Joe Satriani on the guitar.

JOOST DIEHO

2012/02/26, de Brokkenfabriek performed the music of Frank Zappa at 'Zaal 100' in Amsterdam, NL. This concert was the result of a workshop under the supervision of Joost Dieho, who also arranged the pieces.

2013/02/01, Joost coached another Zappa related project. This time at the Utrecht Conservatory, HKU.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - 156 STRINGS

10 years ago, Henry Kaiser compiled an album of acoustic guitar tracks from "guitarists who sound like themselves and have something special to say".
As the disc features quite a number of familiar names, I added it the United Mutations Archives.
Those interested in acoustic guitar music and / or music by Richard Thompson, Fred Frith, Mike Keneally, Henry Kaiser or Miroslav Tadic, to name a few of the 19 participants, should definitely check this album out.

Just in case that the 'familiar names' should need a bit of explanation:
Thompson, Frith and Kaiser performed and recorded with Beefheart drummer John French.
Mike Keneally was part of Frank Zappa's band.
Miroslav Tadic played guitar for the Grande Mothers Re:Invented (with N.M.Brock & Don Preston)

MARKUS STAUSS PROJECT - NEW DUOS 'N' TRIOS

"New Duos 'n' Trios" got recorded a bit over 20 years ago. The album presents extracts from live recordings that featured two improvising trios on the same stage.
The first trio consists of Markus Stauss (saxes & digital horn), Jean Chaine (bass) and David Moss (percussion, voice and electronics), while the second trio is made up of Ellen Christi (voice), Thomi Hirt (bass) and Dieter Ulrich (drums & bugle).

The result is fascinating to say the least. There are moments that you hear one trio improvising. There's other moments when you will hear another trio improvising. And sometimes both trios improvise together.

Some of the more structured pieces remind me a lot of what Zappa & The Mothers were doing, while the improvised moments result in beautiful free jazz soundscapes.

This is great.
I've been listening to it all morning and I can't get enough.

ZAPPANALE REPORT * * * SANDRO OLIVA

True, one shouldn't look back too much.
But sometimes it's fun.

2012/08/01, Sandro Oliva closed the first day of the Zappanale Festival. Despite the fact that his saxophone player (and additional vocalist) had fallen ill, Sandro pulled off a great gig.
Special guest Tim Op Het Broek assisted in background vocals, snorks and assorted noises.
(picture above by Bazbo)

I loved it. It brought back fond memories of the old Grandmothers concerts.

SUN RA - MY BROTHER THE WIND II

Sun Ra and his Astro Infinity Arkestra's "My Brother The Wind Volume II" got released in 1970 on Sun Ra's Saturn label and re-issued on CD by Evidence in 1992.
Half of the album has the 15 piece Arkestra performing jazz tunes in the classic meaning of the word. With June Tyson on vocals !!
The other part of the album has Sun Ra experimenting with his moog synthesizer.

Album cover, line-up and tracklist have been added to the United Mutations Archives.

MARIETA TAMARIT - GLAZY

Released on Hall Of Fame records, this nice little album collects pieces from various Caballero Reynaldo records. It als includes a fine set of Zappa tunes.
Marieta Tamarit does a great job. Her voice sounds soft and fragile. It fits the arrangements perfectly.

& I finally managed to add the tracklist to the U.M.Archives.

AREND NIKS - AT HAND

A little while ago, I was rather enthousiastic about the latest New Niks album. New Niks is Arend Niks' latest project. So far, the band has released three albums.
Before New Niks, Arend had already released two albums under his own name: "At Hand" and "Future Museum".
Adding interesting data & pictures to the United Mutations Archives, here's "At Hand".

Here's Arend with CRAM (in 2008):
