CONLON NANCARROW

I first heard about contemporary composer Conlon Nancarrow when Zappa mentioned him in an interview. Nancarrow wrote music for player piano, sort of a pre-historic synclavier.
His "Studies For Player Piano" got released on four or five CDs some twenty years ago. Essential stuff.

NEW ZAUSS ALBUM ANNOUNCED

Markus Stauss announced a new ZAUSS album for release in November 2012.  (= Francesco Zago (guitar & loops) & Markus Stauss (saxophones)).
Their first album, "Überall", was pretty impressive so I'm curious to here this new release.

One of the tracks on the new disc will be called 'Make A Zauss Noise".

PHAROAH SANDERS - IN THE BEGINNING

The fabulous ESP record label has uncovered and released some of the first recordings of Pharoah Sanders. This 4CD box set includes recordings from sessions with Don Cherry and with Paul Bley, material that Pharoah recorded with his own quintet, and two fabulous concerts in which Pharoah performed with Sun Ra and his Solar Arkestra.

As a bonus, "In The Beginning" also includes interview fragments with Pharoah Sanders and with Sun Ra.

Alongside the recordings & the interviews comes a very informative text written by Russ Musto.

I just love these kind of releases: fabulous music, placed in a historical context, in a great package.
Excellent.
