ZEROENSEMBLE - WE BE WHAT AM IS

Officially to be released on the first on January, but the new ZEROensemble compilation album is already up on Bandcamp for our enjoyment.

PERSAGE - OUTER PERIMETER

Presage consisted of rapper MC Dose (real name Adam Drucker) and hip hop producers DJ Jel (real name Jeffrey Logan) and Mr. Dibbs (real name Brad Forste).
Their only album, “Outer Perimeter” included a track entitled ‘The Media’ in which they sampled, among others, Frank Zappa.
From the intro of ‘Poofter’s Froth Wyoming Plans Ahead’:

This is a song that warns you in advance
that next year everybody’s going to try and sell you things
that maybe you should not ought to buy
And not only that, they’ve been planning it for years

The CD is rather easy to find. My copy arrived last week.
If you're into beats, scratching and samples, you've got to give this a listen.
I like it.

The album is also out on 2 LP. This one seems to be a bit harder to find. Well, maybe not that hard to bind. It just comes with a different price label.

BOBBY JAMESON - RECONSIDER BABY / LOWDOWN FUNKY BLUES

A while ago, Bobby Jameson explained on his blog how he made two records for the Penthouse label: “Reconsider Baby” and “Gotta’ Find My Roogalator” and that Frank Zappa arranged both of them.

The above picture shows the first one.
The second one, 'Gotta' Find My Roogalator' (Penthouse 503), got released shortly after 'Reconsider Baby' (Penthouse 501). Both in 1966.

 

Z.E.R.O. TO RELEASE A COMPILATION ALBUM

Kevin Crosby (the man behind Z.E.RO. / The Zappa Early Renaissance Orchestra) is preparing a Z.E.R.O. compilation album.

It will be called "We Be What Am Is" and will be available as a download / streaming album through Bandcamp.

A SUN RA UPDATE

Well, sort of an update.
Two recent albums that need a mention:

Sun Ra And His Astro Infinity Arkestra: "Strange Strings" (Expanded Edition)
    (2024, cd, USA, cosmic myth records cmr008)

Not the easiest of Sun Ra albums, and this time, released with additional tracks.

Sun Ra collected an arsenal of exotic string instruments and handed them out to his Arkestra with the idea that "strings could touch people in a special way." That the Arkestrans didn't know how to play or tune these instruments was not beside the point— it was the point. Ra framed it "a study in ignorance." The result was primitive, yet sophisticated; brutal, yet highly sensitive. In his essay for this expanded edition, musician-curator David Toop calls Strange Strings "saturated in mystery." Double album includes rare and previously unissued tracks.
