Marco Fraquelli adds:
Everything has been said and written about Frank Zappa. Much less, if not almost nothing, about the many musicians (over three hundred!) who accompanied him over the course of nearly three decades. This book is dedicated to them. At least to a good part (109 to be precise): basically- with a few exceptions- all those who shared the stage with him, in the various formations, in the more than one 1,800 concerts given by the "genius from Baltimore" during his musical adventure. Almost an "act of love" the author calls it, a "tribute to all the extraordinary musicians who, over the years, accompanied Frank Zappa; to remember those who, with great skill, made his music great, allowing us to enjoy it uninterruptedly for almost sixty years." From Mike Altschul's A to Allan Zavod's Z, we will thus be able to get to know these musicians more closely, in a series of short profiles that tell us about their training, their professional careers and, indeed, their collaboration with Zappa. Often, then, the portraits are accompanied by behind-the-scenes and tasty anecdotes that, in addition to giving us an even better understanding of the various protagonists, offer a very special insight into the relationships between the composer and the members of his various bands.
