no clue on who, what or where...
In the Mosae aftermath and in the start of the new year, Hollie, Beck & Händl will be doing a concert in Heerlen, NL, on January 6.
I'm quite convinced that they'll be performing some Zappa tunes.

Zappafest 2023
4 hours of music on YouTube !
with Dr. Chow's Love Medicine, The Mirrormen, and Gozrtenplat.
A couple of weeks ago, LiLo (Lionel Loswarn) and his son performed Zapmospheres II in concert in Massy in France. Just below Paris.
Here's a YouTube impression.
The Flat Earth Society Orchestra has just announced a new album, "The One", to be released in spring 2024.
Dutch band Blast released "A Sophisticated Face" on the Cuneiform record label in 1999.
It included a piece entitled 'Zoot' to which Blast guitarist Frank Crijns recently added on Facebook that it was dedicated to Frank Zappa.

Klanggalerie just announced a third volume of Alieno De Bootes' tribute to The Residents and that's something that I'm really looking forward to.
"Unconventional Residents" offers an adventurous way to rediscover the music of The Residents !
Alessandro Pizzin (a.k.a Alieno deBootes) continues his unconventional reinterpretation of The Residents' music with this third volume of mutated well-known themes of the legendary American art combo.
The usual international guest list featured on this Unconventional Residents III CD is even more interesting this time with the inclusion of Brian Poole/Renaldo M (Renaldo & The Loaf), Amy Denio (Tone Dogs, Pale Nudes, Tiptons) and William D Drake (Cardiacs) featured here together with the usual musical friends like Ken Field (Birdsongs of the Mesozoic/Revolutionary Snake Ensemble), Christophe Godin (Mörglbl), James Larcombe (Stars in Battledress), Luis Gonzalez (Caballero Reynaldo), Masha Galvan & Spike Delgado (The Bootes Trio). On the Italian side of the lineup for the first time featured here are Piergiuseppe Ciranna (lead vocalist from Alieno's band Ruins, active since 1979), Pedro Bortoluzzi (clarinet), Anu (multi-instrumentalist also from the aforementioned Ruins) and the Yahozna Band (with whom Alieno recorded and co-produced an album of unconventional"Frank Zappa music back in 1995).
In the meantime, to ease the wait, Klanggalerie released "Alternates & Outtakes".
Make sure to check out track number 7, 'You YesyesyYes' for the fine reference to Frank Zappa's 'Inca Roads'.
Love it !!
Since the beginning of the Unconventional Residents project, Alieno deBootes has recorded, arranged, adapted, processed and completed a lot of stuff. Thanks to the collaboration of other great italian and international friends and musicians, he was able to realize a project he had been working on for a long time: publish a non-conventional reinterpretation of the music of one of the most interesting and influential groups in his listening experience. With the involvement of Klanggalerie Records it was therefore possible to publish the first two volumes of these collections, characterized by decidedly unusual interpretative choices, especially considering the uniqueness of the musical material we are talking about. On the eve of the forthcoming publication of the third volume of Unconventional Residents, Alieno deBootes and Klanggalerie have agreed to collect some of the recordings made so far through the choice of alternative versions of the songs that appeared in the two previous volumes, as well as a preview of the contents of the next album (also in this case with "alternate versions") and some curious outtakes that did not find space in the final compilations of the albums produced so far. It is a sort of Christmas present that precedes the official release of the third chapter scheduled for the beginning of winter 2024.
January 9, 10 and 11, 2020, Markus Muffler organized a three-day tribute to the music of Frank Zappa at the BURGHOF, a cultural center in the city of LORRACH, Germany.
Markus had The Grandsheiks performing at the festival, and he had invited Dweezil Zappa to attend the festival.
The first night had an audio listening session, plus a screening of "Eat That Question", plus a sofa session with Dweezil Zappa.
The second night, The Ensemble Recherche performed classical music that had influenced FZ.
And the third night, The Grandsheiks played a Zappa set. And much to everybody's surprise, Dweezil was featured as special guest during 'I'm The Slime'.

One Shot released their first album in 2001. At the time, the band consisted of Philippe Bussonnet, James Mac Gaw, Emmanuel Borghi and Daniel Jeand'heur.
The first three out of these four members had been part of Magma at a certain point in their career.
Guitarist James Mac Gaw passed away in 2021 after which One Shot reformed with both Emmanuel Borghi and Bruno Ruder on keyboards.
Zeuhl / avant prog / fusion.
Recorded in concert at Le Trition in Paris, France.
Beautiful.
Just in time for Christmas, here's Pierre Vervloesem's "Spacequake".
According to Pierre, it's his 80th album.
According to me, this just might be the best Christmas album that I ever encountered.
Lots of polyrhythmic guitar extravaganza, free jazz saxophone solos (Bruno Vansina?), synclavier-like melodies, and twisted Christmas tunes.
THIS IS GREAT !!
Check it out !
Darko The Super keeps on putting this little (hidden) Zappa references in his music.
I love it.
Check out the final three seconds of the first track !
Yes, indeed.Shindig #145 has a 7-page article on the 1960's L.A. freak scene, mentioning a.o. the importance of Vito & Carl Franzoni on the early careers of Zappa's Mothers and The Byrds.
And yes, that's FZ and Don Van Vliet on the cover !

The Frank Zappa Newsletter says:
HAPPY ZAPPADAN
On December 21st, we’ll be celebrating what would have been Frank’s 83rd birthday.
To keep the celebration going, A Token of His Extreme will be available for streaming on Apple TV, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video on Friday, December 22nd. Mark your calendars.
Recorded on August 27, 1974 at KCET TV Studios in Hollywood, A Token of His Extreme was a program that Frank Zappa created and originally was intended to be a TV special. It features a legendary extravaganza of live music by him and his five incredibly talented band members: George Duke, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ruth Underwood, Tom Fowler, and Chester Thompson.
The Belgian W.E.R.F. record label is known for their excellent contemporary jazz releases.
Yesterday, the label released a sampler on Bandcamp.
Darc Mind sampled Frank Zappa's 'Little Umbrellas'.
The track got released on the duo's 2005 "Soulfood" EP, a CDR release.
About thirty seconds into the track !!
One year later, the piece would find its way to "Bipolar".
Initially, "Bipolar" got released as a 2 CDR set. In 2007 it would be out on several digital platforms.
The latest issue of Good Times magazine fell on my doorstep earlier this week.
A nice surprise !
And a very fine issue it is.
In German, but in English the articles could have been called :
Musical weirdness from Tory Slusher and Solo Goodspeed.
Their project was called MJXII, the album "Archipelagopher".
Men & Volts are going through their archives & have just made "Healing Hands" available.
Dutch guitar player Twan van Gerven has just released "Catch A Vibe - dB Hooligans" through Bandcamp.
Mike Keneally released several cassettes (on his TAR label) in 1988.
Ten years later, he would release most of the material on two CD's: the TAR Tapes.
Volume two has just been added to Mike's Bandcamp page.
I received my CD a couple of weeks ago, and I just keep going back to it.
Complex and dissonant, with atypical rhythmic structures and surpassing all energy levels.
That's Ni.
One of the top albums of 2023.
Whatever I say, you will never be prepared for this.

Greetings Eyeballers!
And so, with winter closing in, we reach the final New Ralph Too mailout of the year. The Residents have been put back into their boxes and are tucked away in their usual warm corner of their studio for hibernation, leaving those of us who look after them in charge for a few months. Our annual opportunity to enjoy the quiet and get some paperwork done without them asking irritating questions and then not listening to the answers is here.
You may well have heard by now that the group's final act before retiring for the winter was to oversee the release of 'The Residents' Secret Show', a live album and DVD documenting their January 2023 50th Anniversary performance. Crammed full of guest artists and at least a couple of Residents songs never performed live before, it's something of a must-have, and perfect for Grandma's Christmas stocking. It'll be available on 2LP and a CD/DVD set.
... if the track listing alone doesn't cut it for you, perhaps THIS taster clip featuring Les Claypool and The Residents working up 'Hello Skinny' might.
Strange to think that album will be out there in the wild by the time we wake The Residents up for their next obligation - a much anticipated UK tour of their famous 'God In 3 Persons' show! In terms of realising thirty five year old ambitions, this is a big one.
Rumours persist of further dates to be announced, but if I were you I'd start looking into a cheap flight to the UK if you can make it. All the dates and details are at residents.com/tour dates as ever. Enjoy!
To coincide with the tour, the group have also prepared a completely unrelated album for 2024's Record Store Day event, of which they're still great fans. As ever, The Residents are more than happy to sell records on the back of FOMO, peer pressure and cultural conformity, and have offered something called 'Leftovers Again?! AGAIN?!?' this time around. What that is, nobody really knows. But it sounds great doesn't it. Watch the skies!
Meanwhile, as the Eyeballs sleep through the coming months we'll be continuing to prepare pREServed releases for both 'Demons Dance Alone' and 'Animal Lover' according to their precise instructions, and checking in on post-production, mixing and all of the other complicated technical stuff which will go into their proposed new album, which should be with us some time next summer.
Of course, there's more - there's always more, right? Off the top of my head: at least two proposed books (including a collection of screenplays, film and TV treatments etc, many of which never made it), a documentary, some uber niche limited CD releases, something called 'The Randy, Chuck And Bob Studio Sessions', 'G3PRDX' and on and on and on it goes.
We do hope you'll enjoy it all, or at least some of it. I'm contractually obliged to say The Residents *still* appreciate every purchase, every click, every 'like', every needle drop, every ticket and T-shirt bought, every friend turned on to their stuff, every kinda-weird-but-ultimately-complimentary-if-you-choose-to-take-it-that-way comment on social media and all the rest of it. And it really is true.
Peace out, and have a very happy multi-faith end of year celebratory experience, wherever you are.
All at New Ralph Too
