Earlier today, I was happy to give Phil Lesh & Friends' "There And Back Again" a listening session.
Phil Lesh used to play the bass in The Grateful Dead. He's joined by Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring who add some excellent guitar to the songs.
11 fine songs, plus 4 if you get the limited edition 2 CD set.
Feelgood stuff.
Nice. Very nice.
I finally got around to adding the latest Ed Palermo Big Band album to the United Mutations Archives (and to The Others Of Invention).
"The Great Un-American Songbook Vol.III" is another beautiful tribute to the music that Ed grew up with: The Beatles, Jethro Tull, Trafic,... all mixed with a fine dose of Frank Zappa.
Over the top? Too complicated?
Well,... I love it. I guess it's an acquired taste.
The album cover already shows that it's all about the brain. My Spanish isn't good enough to understand the lyrics (all present in the booklet) but the song titles suggest it's all about mental disorders.
15 innocent sounding pop songs about mental disorders.
Sounds like the perfect study object for students of the Spanish language.

(concert starts after 1h and 4 minutes)
Subtitled "Haitian Drums & Northern Wind", "Mapou" features Sten Källman on saxophones and Sanba Zao on percussion.
It combines Nordic folk music with the ritual drum music of Haiti.
For this project, Sanba Zao and Sten Källman gathered both Haitian drummers and musicians from the Swedish folk scene.
The result is quite exceptional and has a fresh, contemporary jazzy sound.
Mapou actually is the name of a holy tree in Haiti. It's a fitting name for a mesmerizing album.

MAGMA BOURGES 1979 (2CD) Remastered Edition Now Available!
This particular concert stands out as a moment of grace, partly due to its extreme tension and the risks taken collectively, which the audience still reminisces of to this day.
While chosen for their rich and original musical content, rather than strictly technical qualities per se, these archives are a testament to the astounding talent of cult band Magma during its 50 years of career. In addition to the remastering, the original tape, which had suffered before being found, has been restored and reworked here. Recorded in Bourges in 1979, this concert stands out as a moment of grace, partly due to its extreme tension and the risks taken collectively, which the audience still reminisces of to this day. And if all the musicians offer, as usual, their energy ever so in synch with their worldly reputation, AKT 15 holds a special place in the band's history, documenting this particular period for which we have very few testimonies. All earthly fans and more recent amateurs will, without a doubt, take great pleasure in (re)discovering that exceptional performance

Gene Pritsker :
I would like to tell you about my new release called ‘EroicAnization’. This project came out from a collaboration I did with the Nuremberg based ensemble KONTRASTE, who commissioned me to write a piece based on Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony, we premiered it New Year’s Day 2020, and recorded it after the premiere.
‘EroicAnization’ is for Di.J. and Chamber Ensemble. Also on the album is the encore piece which plays with Beethoven’s famous piano piece, "Für Elise," which I call "Für Elise Charleston." The album starts with "Ludwig’s Night Out". We were in the middle of the pandemic and decided to remotely record a new composition/arrangement based on Beethoven. The result was "Ludwig’s Night Out" for electric guitar, keys, electric bass and drum set, based on Beethoven’s Violin & Piano Sonata No. 4.
On the recently released album (by the Cuneiform record label), ALSE, A Love Supreme Electric, is
