ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES - THE DVD

All Tomorrow's Parties is an alternative music festival that takes place in the UK.
Ever since 1999, the festival has lend the stages to an international selection of experimental, avant-garde and alternative rock music.
The All Tomorrow's Parties DVD is a collection of movies (by professional crews, but also by cameras and cellphones of audience members) that will give you an idea of what ATP is all about. The festival is not just about great music, but it also focusses on the interaction between the artists and the audience. The DVD shows how the musicians stay in the same accommodation as the fans, how musicians jam at the 'camping site', and how they interact.
It's a long list, but you should be impressed by the number of artists that are featured in this film: Belle And Sebastian, Grizzly Bear, Sonic Youth, Battles, Portishead, Daniel Johnston, Grinderman, Lightning Bolt, David Cross, Animal Collective, The Boredoms, Les Savy Fav, Mogwai, Octopus Project, Slint, The Dirty Three, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Gossip, GZA, Roscoe Mitchell, Seasick Steve, Iggy and the Stooges, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Fuck Buttons, Micah P Hinson, Two Gallants, Mars Volta, Akron/Family, Jah Shaka, Saul Williams, Shellac, Patti Smith and John Cooper Clark...
"All Tomorrow's Parties" is a fine documentary about an exemplary festival.

BLESSED RELIEF

Added another picture to the Zappa > Books section.

Here's the third volume of Scott Parker's study of the works of FZ.
It got published earlier this year.
Fine artwork by Robert Ross.

BACKSTAGE AUCTIONS

Backstage Auctions will be hosting its 2009 Holiday auction in December, which in addition to a large host of great Rock & Roll memorabilia, will include well over 300 Frank Zappa lots, containing record awards, signed items, vintage concert posters, unique vinyl releases, original artwork, rare photos, promotional items, scripts, books, magazines and many other incredible collectibles.

This amazing offering comes directly from the private collection of consigners such as Dave McMacken and Cal Schenkel (Zappa album cover artists), Essra Mohawk (who sang with Frank in 1966), Jim Pons (bass player of the MOI 1970 - 1971) and Fred Woods (author and recognized Zappa expert).

The auction preview starts on November 29, whereas the actual (on-line) auction goes LIVE on Sunday December 6 and will run for one week (it ends on Sunday December 13, 2009). This historical auction will take place online at: www.backstageauctions.com

The above picture gives you just a small sample of the Zappa items.

For more information on the auction, please check out our Auction Page on our site. If you have any questions, please let us know. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you in December!

DON PRESTON - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK: THE GARY PLAYS

Now here's a surprise.
Don Preston wrote (and performed) the music for three Murray Mednick plays.
And it gets even more interesting as these soundtracks have been released on CD by MsMusic Productions.

There are some great jazz tunes on this disc, and some excellent contemporaty stuff as well.

Recommended listening.

CD available from CDBaby.

THE OUTSIDEMEN - BAND OVERBOARD

The Outsidemen were a jazz power trio, featuring Ralph Humphrey on drums (yes, Ralph Humphrey on drums !!), the late Jim Lacefield on bass, and Mike Miller on guitar.

Mike Miller could /should be known to you as the guitar player in the Band From Utopia, or in the Chad Wackerman Trio.

"Band Overboard" captured the band live in concert.
Most of the pieces on this album are by Ralph Humphrey and/or Mike Miller, the exceptions being a Jan Hammer piece and a John McLaughlin composition.

This is great stuff. Beautiful compositions and all of the musicians get enough room to do their thing. I really like Mike Miller's guitar playing. It has a great tone and he plays great jazz lines and melodies.

KMFDM - DON'T BLOW YOUR TOP

I mentioned this album a couple of weeks ago.
On the KMFDM album "Don't Blow Your Top", in the track with the same name, no fewer than five different Zappa tunes contribute lyrics: 'Son Of Suzy Creamcheese', 'I'm The Slime', 'Dirty Love', 'The Orange County Lumber Truck' and 'Bow Tie Daddy'.

And that's about it. The only Zappa reference that you will find on this album is in the lyrics.
Wiki says that this kind of music can best be described as "industrial rock". I wouldn't have a clue. Same Wiki says that this is a very succesful band, having sold over 2 million records worldwide...
Still, my ears say no ..

RICKY LANCELOTTI

2009 11 29

from Rick (John) Edwards:

I accidentally found your web site, and was very sad to see that Rick died.

We called him Rick Lancelot. My nickname was Rick too. I though about him from time to time, but didn't know where he was. I used to play bass in a band with him and my brother (Rob Edwards - guitar). We played in clubs in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. Rick also played with my brother in Sky Oats for the movie called Pacific Vibrations.

Here is a picture of the band. Rick has the furrball hair. Rob is the tall one. Jim Keltner is the drummer (wall next to right) .

Rick liked to do Elton John songs, but we liked things with more driving beats.

For a while we called our band "Universal Rundle" after the name of the toilet maker we read off from the toilet in the restroom of the Players Bar in Manhattan Beach. I remember at one point Rick, in jest I think, suggested calling ourselves the Nazis. He was pretty funny and a pleasure to be around.

KIMONO DRAGGIN' - WE ARE THE DUDES

Kimono Draggin' has two new albums out. Details of the first one, "Space Orphans" can be found a bit further below.

"We Are The Dudes" got recorded shortly after "Space Orphans". The album sounds a bit less experimental than "Orphans", but is still all about high-energy, powerful, guitar-oriented punk-rock.
Angular rhythms, hyperactive vocals, ... it must be Kimono Draggin'.

Who needs Champions if you've got Dudes.
"We Are The Dudes" is the latest Kimono Draggin' release and it needs your attention.

BENEFIT CONCERT BY POINT 6 LATER TONIGHT

Rick Olson (Bogus Pomp) says:

Recently, Hurricane Ida pummeled El Salvador killing several hundred and leaving many others homeless and hurting. We have organized a benefit concert to help in the small way we musicians can and hope you will too. Consider the one dollar means one meal to someone in need the Thanksgiving weekend.

Rick Olson and Jerry Outlaw are members of the Latin Rock band Point 6 and urge you to join us. Please.

Here's the data:

BROKKENMIDDAG 2009 11 29

That's today.
Well it is for me.

David Kweksilber and de Brokkenfabriek will be performing in 'Zaal 100' in Amsterdam. It kicks off at 15.30 h.

MIKE KENEALLY - SCAMBOT 1

A new Mike Keneally album is always celebrated over here, at UM HQ.
Few artists have been able to sustain such a high degree of quality throughout their career.

Mike's latest is called "Scambot 1" and it's the first in a trilogy.
And there's not just "Scambot 1" - the standard edition, there's also "Scambot 1" - the limited and numbered edition that comes with a bonus disc of songs and stories that were inspired by "Scambot 1".

The music on "Scambot 1" is quite diverse. It blends rock, jazz and contemporary music in a beautiful, recognisable Mike Keneally mix.

Compared with his previous albums, Mike Keneally succeeded in raising the bar again.
"Scambot 1" is the best Keneally I've heard so far.
The Zappa imprint is unmistakable, and I can even hear a bit of Steve Vai influence, but most of all, I hear beautiful & playful Mike Keneally music.
Did I mention that there's also an edition with a bonus disc?

Essential !!

POINT 6

Point 6 is band that plays latin-rock / world-beat kinda music. It features, a.o., Jerry Outlaw and Rick Olson from Bogus Pomp.

On Friday morning between 9 and 10 am, November 20, 2009, the band did a live concert on WMNF 88.5 radio . They did some Santana songs, but also included a Zappa composition in their setlist.

SUN RA ARKESTRA CONCERT DATA

I added concert data for the Burghausen and Pforzheim gigs that the Sun Ra Arkestra recently did, but even more spectacular are the pictures that have been added.
thanks to Herbert Zaussinger for both data and pictures. Go here.

ZITA SWOON - TO PLAY, TO DREAM, TO DRIFT

Belgian band Zita Swoon has a new album out.
"To Play, To Dream, To Drift" is a 2CD set. The first disc can be considered as some sort of 'best of' as it's an anthology of released material.
It's an impressive choice. One finds material from A Beatband and Moondog Jr. (two earlier incarnations of Zita Swoon) next to Zita Swoon classics.

The second disc is the most interesting one. Subtitled "the unreleased anthology", it presents unknown songs and demos from 1990 until 2009. Beautiful.

Forget about witlof, waffles and Brussels sprouts.
There's just three things that Belgium should be proud of: beer, chocolates and music.

Essential listening.

KENEALLIST THANKSGIVING '09

Mike Keneally says:

Oh, hi! It's me, Mike, and I'm hearing a marching band version of "Cars" by Gary Numan as a Ronald McDonald balloon is being displayed. I think the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade may be the most absurd thing shown on TV all year - maybe that's why I still can't quite get enough of it.

A Decade of Nonkertompf

Hey, Yo Gabba Gabba just showed up on the Macy's Parade, and we all know what that means. Happy Nonkertompf 10th Anniversary! To help you celebrate, we're knocking the price of the Nonkertompf CD down to ten bucks for the rest of 2009! Buy as many as you like, we won't mind!

Dethklok Tour

The Dethklok/Mastodon/Converge/High on Fire 2009 tour is now a series of sweet memories. Quite possibly the most glorious touring experience I've personally, um, experienced. It was miraculous to get to the end of 40 gigs with arguably more energy than I had at the beginning of the tour. Thank you everyone who was a part of it. A lot of friendships formed, including some that will result in some interesting, possibly unexpected collaborations in the future - stay tuned.

Scambot 1 News & Scambot Holiday Special Sale

Man! Response to Scambot 1 has been immensely rewarding. In particular I've been grateful that people are responding strongly to the time spent crafting the sheer sound of the thing. Y'all rule for understanding what we were up to there.

Maybe you're craving a little more Scambot? Maybe you didn't download The Scambot Holiday Special when it came out late last year? Maybe we ought to knock the cost of the Holiday Special download to a mere $2.50 for the rest of the year! Don't miss the chance to invite the songs "Holiday Face" and "Salve-Dependent Scorpions" into your life - and learn a bit about the Owl of Holiday Hope in the bargain. And when I say "bargain," I mean $2.50.

You haven't gotten Scambot 1 yet? Don't you want to know what all the cool kids are talking about? Check it out! Perhaps you'd enjoy a free download of the song "Tomorrow," here.

Be a Part of January's MyKeneally Tour

Our late January My Keneally tour plans are proceeding apace - Bryan Beller and I will be taking to the road again, playing wherever you, our dedicated pal, would like us to. We would love to line up gigs in the Pacific Northwest of the US, and around Vancouver - write to us at mykeneally@keneally.com if you would like to bring us to these areas for a day of music you won't soon forget - you can help us decide what to play, and full-on have us play in your living room if you like - seriously, we love living rooms.

Gigs!

Dec. 5 I'll be returing to Brick by Brick in San Diego for another headlong run at a bunch of Cream covers with Kofi Baker and Robbie Pagliari, with OHM featuring Chris Poland also on the bill.

Jan. 2 I'll be teaming up with Marcelo Radulovich and many others for the inaugural San Diego Experimental Guitar Show -- only guitars, all night long! It's at the Soda Bar on El Cajon Blvd., details here -- I only just signed on for this today, that's why I'm not listed on this page yet.

Jan. 6 I'll be teaming up with Rick Musallam and Matt Resnicoff at the Baked Potato for some trio guitar action (Rick M. is hosting all Wednesdays in January at the Baked Potato, so this is his gig - come on in and support Mr. Musallam!).
And on Saturday, Jan. 9, I'll be returning to the Baked Potato with a very different sort of Mike Keneally Band - myself, Rick Musallam on bass, and from Dethklok - Brendon Small on guitar and Gene Hoglan on drums. The repertoire is not what you might expect. Special guests might arrive. More details on this essential event coming soon.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, thank you for reading this! See you soon!

Love

KIMONO DRAGGIN' - SPACE ORPHANS

The year was 2007, and Kimono Draggin' kicked ass at the Zappanale Festival in Bad Doberan, Germany. Joe Nolan, Joshua Hatton and Chris Swirski showed us what an energetic gig is all about.

We're 2009 now and the Tremendous Trio is all ready to take another go at the old continent.
"Space Orphans" shows that the band has evolved quite a lot the last couple of years. The power and the Beefheart approach are still there, but it's all more balanced.
I really like this.
I played "Space Orphans", and for one reason or another, it made me go search for Pere Ubu's "Dub Housing" album. So I played "Dub Housing", and now I'm back to "Space Orphans".

If you're into experimental, avant-garde rock music, Kimono Draggin's "Space Orphins" will be right up your alley.
Highly recommended !
(Did I tell you that they're on my Zappanale wish-list ?)

ZITA SWOON HAS A NEW ALBUM OUT

Zita Swoon has a new album out: "To Play To Dream To Drift".

It's a two CD set that combines a disc of "best of" with a disc of demos and outtakes.

Stef Kamil Carlens said that this will put the Zita Swoon pop / rock concert series to an end. The band is taking a two year sabbatical starting now. Stef Kamil will be leaving for Africa in January, where he hopes to meet and work with local musicians.

MORAINE - MANIFEST DENSITY

Moraine includes an electric guitar, a cello, a violin, a bass guitar and drums. Not exactly the most typical setting for a rock band.

Moraine plays fusionlike, instrumental progressive rock. The compositions are lyrical and catchy and the various tracks are written by various members of the band.
I like it.

Nice pieces, fine solos and an impressive Dennis Rea on guitar. I especially like the tone of the guitar. It fits in very good with the violin and the cello.
Check it out some audio and video snippets over at the Moonjune website:

http://www.moonjune.com/MJR028-N.htm

The Dennis Rea bio is quite impressive. Dennis has played all over the globe and has written a book about his musical experiences in China.
He also performed with the Sun Ra Arkestra...

THE MAR VISTA PHILHARMONIC - NO FOREST FIRE

August 22, 2002, a select group of musicians gathered in Arthur Barrow's studio for an occasional improvisation / jam.
These kind of free form sessions have been taking place in Arthur Barrow's Lotek Studio every now and then since the early ninetees. As Arthur Barrow stated in his liner notes, the MVP jams got their start as a memorial musical get together shortly after Miles Davis died.
Most noteworthy about this August 2002 event, is that Vinnie Colaiuta joined the group that particular night.

Just imagine:

  • Tommy Mars: hammond organ, fender rhodes electric piano, vocals
  • Walt Fowler: trumpet, flugelhorn
  • Bruce Fowler: trombone
  • Larry Klimas: tenor sax, soprano sax
  • Kurt Mcgettrick: bass clarinet, baritone sax
  • Arthur Barrow: electric bass
  • Vinnie Colaiuta: drums

It is hard to imagine that the music on "No Forest Fire" is the unedited recording of the music that was played that evening. This is top notch.
And I'm not just saying this because most of these guys have played with Frank Zappa. This is great music.

The four long pieces that you can find on "No Forest Fire" will take you on a journey. Great melodies and solos emerge as the pieces develop. The setting and the improvisations makes one think about Miles Davis' bands, while the backing (rhythm & horn section) smell like Zappa.

Fabulous !! This is a must-have !!
& before I forget: Tommy Mars rules !

FLAT EARTH SOCIETY - ANSWER SONGS

Friends of Saturn (or friends of adventurous music, as one might call them) will be pleased to know that Peter Vermeersch's Flat Earth Society has another new album out.

"Answer Songs" is exactly what it says: songs of which both the music and the lyrics are written in response to another song.
Here's the list:
  • To walk a mermaid (p.vandenberghe / p.verhelst)
    - answer song to 'song to the siren (jeff buckley)
  • Les brasseries de la plage (p.vermeersch / r.hofstede)
    - answer song to 'les filles du bord de mer / vous permettez) (adamo)
  • The everlasting sea (b.vansina / f.wagemans)
    - answer song to 'should i stay or should i go' (the clash)
  • Dit is alles (p.vermeersch / j.de pauw)
    - answer song to 'is dit alles' (doe maar)
  • Drizzlin' on heels (t.wouters / t.wouters)
    - answer song to 'i'm deranged' (d.bowie)
  • Thursday 12th (c.van binsbergen / p.vermeersch)
    - answer song to 'i don't like mondays / Friday 13th) (boomtown rats & monk)
  • Poupée de con (p.vermeersch / g.dendooven)
    - answer song to 'poopée de cire' (s.gainsbourg)
  • Miss possible (p.vandenberghe)
    - answer song to 'mission impossible' (l.schiffrin)
  • By now (p.vermeersch / p.vermeersch
    - answer song to 'my funny valentine' (rodgers & hart)

I just love these kind of projects. This is fun. This is great music (written by a bunch of fine musicians), performed by my favourite big band.

Highly recommended !!

CHRIS ABELEN - PROOST

Although "Proost" is Chris Abelen's third album (released in 2002 on bvhaast), the actual recording on this disc is from almost twenty years ago.

In 1992, Chris Abelen got commissioned to write and to perform a set for Willem Breuker's "Klap Op De Vuurpijl" festival. Not only did Chris write the music, he also assembled a ten-piece band to perform it. "Proost" brings us the recording of this concert.

The presence of saxophones, a clarinet, a trumpet, a tube and a trombone, besides the guitar, bass and percussion, makes this a very energetic ensemble.
To my ears, the music sounds as a mixture between modern jazz and contemporary classical music.

NEW NIKS & ARTVARK SQ - BUSY BUSY BUSY

About half a year ago, the Bimhuis club in Amsterdam presented three days of Dutch jazz and improvisation. One of these days staged the New Niks ensemble and the Artvark Saxophone Quartet. Both quartets played a short set, and joined each other afterwards for an extra concert.
You can find more info of this gig (music and interviews) over at the Radio6 site:
http://vprojazzlive.radio6.nl/2009/03/13/bim-live-133-artvark-saxophone-quartetnew-niks/

Actually, this wasn't the first time that these two ensembles had performed together. They had already played together at the Rottpod festival in Rotterdam in 2008. An experiment left everyone asking for more.

The sum of New Niks plus the Artvark Saxophone Quartet is called Busy Busy Busy, and as it happens, that's also the name of this new album.
"Busy Busy Busy" combines the playfulness of New Niks with the powerful backing and dynamic solos of the Artvark 4tet.
The music on "Busy Busy Busy" reflects that Delfos, Broekhuizen, le Clerq, Niks, Erker, Suntrop and Wirtz all signed for at least one composition. There's a lot of variation to be found on this disc, and yet, the octet sounds as if they've been playing together for years.

Recommended listening.

CHRIS ABELEN - SPACE

Last Sunday, I went to the Travelling Light festival in Breda, NL.
I saw CRAM and Flat Earth Society.
Excellent times two.
They were responsable for the big smile on my face.

The result was that I was in a jazzy mood, so I picked out Chris Abelen's "Space" to end the day.

"Space" is a very impressive album. Not only because the Chris Abelen Quintet is made up of Chris Abelen, Tobias Delius, Corrie van Binsbergen, Wilbert de Joode and Charles Huffstadt, but also because "Space" features the Zapp! String Quartet, and has Ad Baars as special guest.

The result of having the quintet, the string quartet and Ab Baars' free jazz clarinet is astonishing. There's melodic passages that could creat their own movies, there's spacy free jazz (Ab!), great guitar work, and high energy trombone solos, contrasting with the strict string parts.

If you're not familiar with Chris Abelen's music, "Space" would be a good place to start.

Essential listening.

THE OUTSIDEMEN

The Outsidemen was Mike Miller, Ralph Humphrey and Jim Lacefield. They recorded one album: "Band Overboard".

Mike Miller says:

"The Outsidemen was a project started by Ralph Humphrey, Jim Lacefield, and me (Mike Miller). Originally it was for an improvisational class at what is now known as M. I., (Musician's institute) in Hollywood, Ca.

We used to meet before class at the mexican restaurant across from the school, and we would bring in our sketches, sometimes a whole piece, sometimes fragments, and come up with a rough form, sometimes REALLY rough. Then we would spring them on ourselves and the poor student/guinea pigs in the class, to simulate going into a recording session and being handed a new piece of music you had never seen before.

Then we had to make something of it. So the pieces were developed on the spot, with a lot of improv and wild stabs at things, which would often workout very well. Not always so well, but sometimes you learn a lot more from your mistakes than from your successes.

At one point, M. I. was going to start their own label, and we were one of the first projects. they rented the Record Plant mobile truck, and we recorded a concert at the school. The school, at some point, abandoned the label idea, and handed us the tapes. Jim Lacefield and myself immediately put up the money to have it pressed, and with the help of Christine Thomas, "Band Overboard" became a reality.

With the untimely passing of Jim Lacefield a short time later, I composed one more piece, especially dedicated to Jim, "A Moments Rest", and "Band Overboard" was completed. "

THUMPER

WHO ARE THE BRAIN POLICE?

Founded in 1967 in San Diego, The Brain Police played many concerts in the San Diego area and even went on tour with Steppenwolf.

In 1968, they did some recordings at the Fanfare studio, of which only a handful of testpressings survived. Shortly thereafter, the band disbanded.

In 2000, Normal Records re-released the testpressing, with extra tracks that had surfaced.

The picture shows the CD cover of this reissue.

The band did record a track called 'Oh No', but this was an original composition.

RESIDENTS X 3

Yesterday, the latest Residents releases arrived at the U.M. headquarter. Two CDs and one DVD.
This makes 2009 quite an impressive year for the Residents Enthousiast.

http://www.residents.com/

THE RESIDENTS - IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?

  • the residents: is anybody out there?
    (2009, dvd, usa, mvd mvdv4921)

Watching a Residents concert, or performance if you prefer, always is an exceptional event. The "Bunny Boy" show that I saw in Leuven last year was no exception.
With the help of The Residents, Bunny was looking for his brother Harvey.

Building up to The Residents' "Bunny Boy" tour and releases, the band published a number of videos on the internet on which Bunny could tell his story.
The same videos were used during the "Bunny Boy" concerts.

"Is Anybody Out There?" collects these videos.
A perfect addition to my memories of the concert...

THE RESIDENTS - THE UGHS!

  • the residents: the ughs!
    (2009, cd, usa, mvd mvda4922)

In The Residents' story, "The Ughs" are the charactars that The Eyeballed Ones invented when they wanted to compose the music for "The Voice Of Midnight".
In their words, the recordings on this album are the original musical ideas that, two years later, led to the music that accompanied the narrator on "The Voice Of Midnight".

True or not, it's a nice invitations to give "The Ughs!" a listen.

I've only listened to this album once, but I like it a lot. It's a mixture of mysterious sounds and familiar tunes.

Essential listening.

THE RESIDENTS - TEN LITTLE PIGGIES

  • the residents: ten little piggies
    (2009, cd, usa, mvd mvda4924)

The latest Residents album in this batch is "Ten Little Piggies", subtitled: "Tunes From Future Projects".
The CD offers some reworked pieces, a couple of instrumental versions, a couple of tracks from recent live performances, and some absolutely new stuff. All part of ongoing projects.

It's a beauty.

TOM MCCASLIN - INSIDE OUT

U.S. tuba virtuoso Tom McCaslin recorded two versions of Frank Zappa's 'Outside Now Again' on his "Inside Out" album.
The first take is the original version, the second one uses multiple harmonizer and phaser effects. Effects that were also used by Zappa on various albums.

The arrangement for solo tuba was made by Roger Bobo, who had met Frank on several occasions.

Take out your copy of "The Perfect Stranger"; play 'Outside Now Again', and imagine it being played as a solo tuba piece. That's what you will be getting with "Inside Out".

Wowie Zowie...
Incredible...

WADADA LEO SMITH - SPIRITUAL DIMENSIONS

Jazz trumpeteer Wadada Leo Smith has a new album out. It's a two disc set where disc one presents a live recording of Wadada Leo Smith's Golden Quintet, and disc two a concert of Wadada Leo Smith's Organic band.
I'm not too familiar with Wadada Leo Smith's music, but I am familiar with the Yo Miles! project that he did with Henry Kaiser. If I'm not mistaken, Mike Keneally contributed to this project as well.

This new release, "Spiritual Dimensions", has the focus on Wadada Leo Smith.
Recorded in New York City in 2008, the first disc shows Wadada Leo Smith as a fine composer and improviser. The music floats and searches and has Wadada Leo Smith and his band looking for the boundaries of improvised music.
The second disc, which includes the Organic band, has Wadada in a more 'electric Miles' mood. This is the jazz-side as it has more of a groove and more powerful trumpet lines.
The 'South Central L.A. Kulture' composition can be found twice on this album, as it was performed by both the Golden Quintet and by the Organic band. It's a perfect example of the different approach. Beautiful.

For me, "Spiritual Dimensions" was a fine way to get better acquinted with the music of Wadada Leo Smith.
This is very impressive material. I'll be playing this album again in the very near future.

Recommended listening.

ARANIS - ARANIS II - MUSIC FOR AN IMAGINARY FILM

Belgian ensemble Aranis is lead by composer and double bass player Joris Vanvinckenroye. The band combines classical music, rock, jazz and folk into a typical mix.

On Aranis II, their second album, the septet sounds like a rock version of a chamber music ensemble. The music itself is quite uptempo, almost haunting.
Nice.

GEORGE DUKE & HET METROPOLE ORKEST

And here's some pictures that Bazbo took:

BUCKETHEAD RULES

When I came home this afternoon, I found the kids watching a Spongebob movie. Quite funny actually. I only watched the end, but it looked like Plankton had taken control over almost everyone. Plankton made everyone wear buckets on their heads by which he controled their minds (or something like that). Spongebog (the hero) plays a guitar solo, and the sound of the solo destroys all the buckets.
Everyone's free.
Spongebob's the hero.
Happy end.

So what do you think I did after that?
I played some Buckethead.
The above video let's you hear 'Jordan', a piece Buckethead wrote for the Guitar Hero computergame.

INTRODUCING THE SONICS

The vinyl and CD re-release of The Sonics' "Introducing The Sonics" includes 4 bonus tracks, one of which is 'Diddy Wah Diddy'.
